Because Twitter won't care and FB won't understand, I bring you this -- TFW Untherius moves from writing Yuletide stories to Real Life headlines:

What happens if we don't type a title now?

I keep thinking I should post something here, since it's been a while. And lo and behold, this new editor shows up -- it's... interesting? The month of October in my "Draft saved" above is in Cyrillic. I always wanted to learn Russian, so....

Things are moving along, maybe I'll get into it at a later date, we'll see. My COFFEE BAR is growing every month, and I'm enjoying every moment of it, small as it may be. Now if only I could stop working seven days a week.

We'll see, eh!?

PS, What is "Tune in and publish"????

~~ A Whole New World ~~

Just a brief update, since I realize I've been out of touch for a bit.

This weekend is my last driving a forklift. Next week I begin life managing a coffee bar. FINALLY.

XD

I've been working both jobs for a month, so I can hit the ground jogging when I go full time (running would require a bit more time, lol). I can honestly say that I believe this is a Very Good Move. At the very least, my real world edumacation is commencing and my book larnin' will be tested and proved.

I'll have more to talk about later. But I geeked out on my one day off this week by firing up my commercial Astra and making lattes for friends.

Down the rabbit hole I continue....!

And my own misogynistic experience #YesAllWomen

Mild, really, but... is it?

I load trucks as part of my current job. There aren't a lot of female forklift drivers, anywhere.

For some reason, men seem to have a compulsion to draw penises everywhere. Including inside trucks.

Now, I'm no prude, and I'm not running to authority every time a naughty word appears in magic marker. Some graffiti is truly funny. Some "artwork" is truly creative, even while it's... a dick.

But combine words and artwork and it can become quite threatening, even if it's directed at other men as an insult.

For example, a drawing of a dripping dick with the words "Suck it, Biotch."

Yeah. No.

Or a dick about to enter a, I guess it's a vagina. They aren't that adept at female anatomy.

Yeah. No.

Or even the dripping dick poised over a waiting female's open mouth, legs also spread.

Yeah. No.

Seriously.

You'd think that was all a no-brainer. Especially since our department head is a woman. Only apparently, verbally reporting this stuff went un-noticed. The guys I work with had never really paid attention to it, and the male supervisor just gave me a marker to cover it up. Even my female supervisor didn't seem to think it was a Big Deal.

This from the brain trust that sharply admonished another driver when he joked that the small-sized hi-visibility vests we were trying on were like a training bra on him. ... Really?

The same graffiti kept showing up or not being dealt with, so I noted on the official paperwork that goes in files and is subject to eyes other than the department office: "Sexually-oriented offensive graffiti in trailer."

Funny, it's not there anymore.

But I don't understand why no one would think that a dripping cock with the words "Suck it, Biotch!" would in any way be A-OKAY to exist in the workplace (let alone anywhere else). On the part of the owner of the trailer and trucking company, or on the part of the woman running the warehouse. In my mind, there is no other way to take "Suck it, Biotch!" as anything other than threatening, violent, and misogynistic.

I guess they think it's funny. It's not.

Sometimes I can't figure out the internet

In response to possible spoilers for a TV show, I harmlessly googled "resurrection zombies".

Here are the results. (possible spoilers, dur)

Rather expected and droll. What wasn't expected was the item at the bottom of the page:

"In response to a complaint we received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 1 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint that caused the removal(s) at ChillingEffects.org."

Oh really? So now Google is removing search results due to DMCA complaints? Is this new? Because I haven't ever seen this notice before. I thought the internet was forEVER... and EVER... and EVER... or I suppose that only applies to teenage underage drinking pictures on Facebook, that employers will easily be able to obtain. But apparently not something that falls under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Because Reasons.

What else can apparently be scrubbed from every conceiveable corner of the web? Surely nothing politically motivated. Surely.

And the complaint? From Dr. Najeeb Lectures. Which sells medical school videos. Makes me wonder what he had to say about zombies and resurrection.

And we thought flame wars were as bad as it gets on a platform synonymous with thirteen-year-old girls (although we know better).

Putin foes fear Internet crackdown as "blogger law" sails through

But Putin has described the Internet as a CIA project and parliament has approved moves requiring social media websites to keep their servers in Russia and save information about users for at least six months.

...

Russia's leading blog platform, LiveJournal, appears to be standing up to the new rules.

The day after the blogging law was approved by the lower house, LiveJournal director Dmitry Pilipenko said the site would no longer display the number of subscribers a blog had if the figure exceeded 2,500.

Pilipenko said "all coincidences are accidental" but the timing of the announcement means many have seen the decision as a bid to protect LiveJournal's users.

So much for "social capital".

Paging Dr. LJ...

Since there's nothing I can seem to google that's giving me any specific direction to go in, because of common term vague symptoms.

Left arm. No previous symptoms or problems.

An electric twinge nerve feeling that starts in and radiates down the front and back of the upper arm when I move it a certain way. But not all the time. The "end" of the "shock" feeling is about two inches above my elbow.

Started a few days ago if I moved the arm back and to the left. Leave your Untouchables jokes at the door. :D

Now, I feel almost as if I can "drop" my shoulder out of joint a little, straight down my side, and replicate the feeling.

No tenderness, no chronic pain, no lingering ow, no diminishing function anywhere. It comes and goes, and is definitely nerve-related, imho.

But googling "upper arm nerve pain" gives me nothing to really go on.

Any ideas I can follow up on before seeing the doctor if it's not better?

No Subject? Staahp, LJ

So I applied for Reduced Schedule/Intermittent FMLA (thank you new flister!) in order to avoid getting points for being a minute (or an hour) late getting to work because of dealing with hubby's broken wrist. (Did I write about that here? I hope so, I'll have to check my entries, lol.) I'll find out tomorrow if it's been accepted. I think. Nothing in this process is clear, surprise.

My other option was continuing to rack up points and become unemployed. Which at this point would not be a horrible thing, as I have had it up to HERE *insert hand ten stories above head* with the absolutely inhumanity of my workplace. But I'm not sure how to find out if "pointing out" remains eligible for unemployment benefits. That's not a deciding factor, but it wouldn't hurt. Otherwise, I have options anyway and none of them include being treated like a completely replaceable cog for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I learn, once again, that you can't save people from themselves because Reasons.

Fuck you, place.

In the meantime, my favorite coffee shop owner asked if we'd be interested in buying his place if he ever sells it. (This is the second time something like this has happened. I'm thinkin' it's a sign from gahd. /bluesbrothers)

It also led to discussions about managing and learning/experiencing the bidness from someone who truly knows what he's doing. At a time when I'm also pushing forward to do pop-up again, very seriously.

Winds from the east, mist comin' in...

ETA: Yep.

Your Path is Exciting

You just go for it and deal with the consequences later.
Your ideal path is unpredictable and maybe even a little scary. You are drawn to the unknown.

You can be a rule breaker, and you're even somewhat careless. You have been known to act without thinking, but it usually all works out for you.
You are very spontaneous and a major thrill seeker. You are going to make the most of the time you've been given on this planet!

The Archway Test

Blogthings: 100's of Fun, Free Quizzes and 3 Stupid Ones

I'm kind of not getting this whole "cataclysmic winter" thing

Please forgive me ahead of time. I am not trying to be obtuse or unfeeling for those undergoing hardships due to weather. Because god knows, I live in the middle of it and complain plenty. I feel for each and every one of you, and those I don't know about.

But. Are we now so determined, as a collection of human beings in America, that we are never going to die/be delayed/sit in traffic/not get what we want/have to put something off/do unpleasant physical activity/shiver/have no power/need a blanket/be unable to open our car door/slip/leave our driveway/satisfy our McRib craving/run out of milk/push the kids out of the house/lose tree limbs/miss The Walking Dead -- that we have to name every storm and refer to them all as "killer," "catastrophic," "one for the history books," "unprecedented," and accompany every report with foreboding music?

Oh yeah, and "crippling Category Five ice storm." Just found that one. It also contains all the adjectives above.

This is a season we have here, outside of the equatorial region, it's called "winter." There is less heat, frozen stuff, and the potential for slippery substances. Flights will be delayed, schools will close, power will go out, air temps will drop, we will be inconvenienced. We will sometimes have to change our plans, gasp, omg.

Again, I'm not making light of anyone's circumstances. But for god's sake, it's winter. We've had winter since the beginning of time. Yes, even in Georgia. And Texas. I swear.

Are we so helpless, so dependent on everything in our lives, so unable to make plans and decisions based on our instincts and better judgment and yes, even what some "experts" suggest, that we cower and cringe and await destruction as it crawls at the bottom of our television screens as long as we have power?

They ski in the Carolinas. They want snow. They know it happens. Alabama has a ski resort. No, really.

It will melt, even. In two days' time it will be mostly gone.

I don't have cable. I get my news from the web, and most of the time I have no idea things are askew until someone I know mentions their difficulties. Then I feel bad for them and can completely commiserate, because duh, I live in North Dakota. But this whole entire "we're gonna tell you what's coming, tell you as it's happening, then tell you what we told you was happening" media circus cycle of drama and fear and OMG'dness has got to come to a halt, because DAYUM.

How in the HELL did we get across the oceans, or to the moon? Or even through to the next spring? Human adaptability, it was nice knowing ya. We're doomed, apparently. Mother Earth will have her way with us, and the devolution WILL be televised.

And someone will be laughing all the way to the bank.

ETA: "Pax" is not a winter storm. THIS is a winter storm.

<lj-embed id="301" />
