This is my third finished quilt this year and I am so pleased to share it with you. It is a simple formula, a panel, and two borders! Also, today is my turn hosting TGIFF, where we get to share our finishes on a Friday with others in the quilting community. I hope you enjoy the baby quilt and have something fun to share of your own!

Quilt Retreat

This quilt was made on our retreat in January. I actually finished 4 tops, and this is the second I am blogging about. The other two will follow soon. I didn’t get quite as many done as I sometimes too, as I never prepped for the trip. If I do, that means I get a lot of things cut and packaged and ready to sew. I am pleased with these finishes and excited to share the first of the baby quilts.

Here is the quilt on design wall at the retreat center. It finished at 34 x 53, a nice size quilt for a baby. I found a fun fleece backing, and I had been wanting to try it for a long time! I was so glad that I did; it makes a perfect backing and is so nice and cozy.

For quilting, I used a pattern called, Hills and Valleys Edge 2 Edge from Christy Dillon at My Creative Stitches. It was just perfect, a little curvy and worked out quite well on the quilt. This preview has the lines a little dark, but you get the idea of what it will look like.

Here, you can see it close up, on the front and back of the quilt. I quilted it with Superior So Fine #471 Glacier Blue and a white magna glide on the bottom (which disappeared). I liked the teal thread on the quilt, a little interest but not too overwhelming.

I bound it with a navy blue quilting cotton, a little darker than the outside border. I wasn’t sure how it would work due to the thicker backing, but I cut my binding at 2 1/2″ and it was just perfect.

This quilt is just on hand in case I need a baby quilt, or someone is looking to buy one. I am very pleased with the way it turned out. They are fun and fast to make, and babies love them…a win win in my book. My preference is to always wash these quilts so there are no surprises for the new mom, so it is off to the washing machine for this quilt!
