Hello!
Welcome to my first Substack post
Thank you so much for joining me as I share ramblings about life as a freelance artist, the world of children’s publishing (which I am very new to!) and any other tangents my brain chooses to go down.
Never having written so much as a newsletter before, I can’t guarantee the direction this will take (that’s all part of the fun, isn’t it?!) but I can promise sporadic posts that will be an honest, open insight into my working life.
A bit about me
I’ve been working as a full time illustrator for nearly four years, moving slowly towards my dream of being a children’s book illustrator. Things took an exciting step in the right direction earlier this year, when I was asked to join the Bright Agency, after a chance meeting at Bologna Children’s Book Fair (more about this in future posts!). Since then it’s all been a bit of a blur of new clients, book projects big and small and honing my creative voice.
I’ve been lucky to be working fairly constantly since joining the wonderful Bright team, but the flip side to that is that I haven’t produced a whole lot of personal work recently. If you’ve followed me over here from Instagram (thank you!), you may have noticed that I’ve been quiet on there of late. I’m hoping to share more about my projects as soon as I can.
In the meantime, I will be posting about my experience of Folktale Week shortly so look out for that! If there is anything you would be interested in hearing about from me, please do leave me a comment, I’m keen to keep my content relevant. I look forward to sharing my journey into children’s illustration with you!
Thank you for reading!
Kate
