One of the few times I post on LJ is on my birthday each year. Well, here I am, doing it again. Happy birthday to me! Shower me with affections, friends!

Even though I rarely update this journal, I do check my friends list almost every day and comment as much as I can (particularly in the childfree community now). So I am watching. And waiting. To strike.

I was right to be concerned about Misty, because tonight she passed away. today I found her nearly wasted away, cool to the touch and barely moving but still breathing -- just like how my hamsters were right before they passed. I held her for a long time and then put her in a warm, quiet spot in the clear pet carrier next to the cage within distance of Peach to make her as comfortable as possible for when she was ready to go. eventually she quietly passed away. I'm heartbroken.

I'm still befuddled as to what happened. it was a sudden decline -- only about a week had passed from when I first noticed any symptoms. I have pictures & video of her acting fine and even running around from just 3 days ago. I was bracing myself for it but was still hoping she would get better. all the signs and symptoms, particularly the increased water intake, points to kidney failure. if that was the case there was nothing I could do, and I did all I could. multiple sources say that since gerbils are such social creatures, it's good to introduce another cage mate, but I don't think I want to do that. in june Peach will turn 2, so I don't want to stress her out so I figure I'll just give her even more extra attention and hope she doesn't get too lonely. some gerbils fare better by themselves than others. so far she seems to be taking it in stride, running about and still looking healthy and active. still, it's just a damn shame to lose your buddy so soon and so suddenly.

rest in peace, Misty (june 2009 - feb 6, 2011). I'll miss you.

I'm concerned about one of my gerbils, Misty. for the past 2 days I noticed I hadn't been seeing her as much running about and on the wheel so I took a good long look at her and was shocked. she's lost a ton of weight and won't open her eyes. now, the eyes aren't sealed shut by drainage or anything and there's no drainage around her nose. there's no diarrhea, wet tail, sores or anything like that. her incisors are fine & not overgrown. but she has been drinking an abnormal amount of water, which leads me to believe it's a kidney condition which pops up in older gerbils. meanwhile my other one, Peach, is perfectly fine, hardy & active with bright clear eyes, as usual.

they were due for the weekly cage cleaning, so I went ahead and did that since it would make them both more comfortable anyway. to my relief after I put them back in, misty had a little more energy and nibbled on some fresh food and their new "edible hideaway" I got them. but her eyes were still closed. if it is a kidney condition there's not much I can do but make her as comfortable as possible. I'll just have to keep an eye on her & hope she gets better or I might lose her soon. I love these little pets, but maybe I should stop getting them because I get too attached and heartbroken when their short little lifespans come to an end. sigh. I just hope she gets better.

edit: and 20 minutes after I posted this, I saw her out running on the wheel with her eyes opened a little further & now she's eating. still not at 100% I can tell, but this is a good sign. still keeping a watchful eye on her.

right before I wrote this I spilled water all over my lap & had to change my pants. lovely.

anyway, I wanted to update again and do a little recap of 2010. from what I recall I didn't make any progress towards schooling or towards a career or any kind. but I realized that I had seen and been to a couple of different events so I wanted to share my experiences.

03.18.10 - alkaline trio - charleston, sc : my friend david & I took a little roadtrip down to charleston for fun and to see his favorite band. I had never heard of them before so he made sure to fully absorb me into their music. I like a good many of their songs, but didn't know enough to sing along during the show, which feels awkward. all in all, it was a good show and a good trip but MY FEET WERE KILLING ME after we had to come back and go to work until midnight.

04.30.10 - sonata arctica - atlanta, ga : YESSSSSS. my favorite band in all their glory. I hadn't seen them in a long time. in that time span they now had 2 newer albums and a new guitarist. since it was the "days of grays" tour, they primarily did stuff from that album peppered with a few older things. I didn't mind at all since I love the newest album. they always put on a great show and this was no exception.

10.16.10 - chelsea handler - charlotte, nc : I became a fan of her after seeing her on her show on the e network, but I really don't watch it that much. I prefer her books. oh my god, it's some of the most hilarious stuff I've ever read. I highly recommend them. anyway, it was her chelsea chelsea bang bang tour with some material taken out of her most recent book. it was hilarious and very memorable. heather macdonald opened the show and was also funny. good stuff.

12.04.10 - trans-siberian orchestra - greenville, sc : one word: AMAZING. I had missed them the past 2 years they had come by due to always having to work but this time I was determined to see them. the first half was ok. I wanted the crazy fast-paced stuff cause that's what I like. when they got to more of their material in the second half it was awesome. "wizards in winter" and all sorts of things with that crazy violinist jumping 5 feet in the air and running back and forth on stage. lights, smoke, fake snow, flames. it was epic.

01.07.11 - salvador dali exhibit - atlanta, ga : ok so technically I went this year but I still want to include it on the list. I was actually pretty sick that day but I toughed it out for the sake of art and a once-in-a-lifetime event. the collection included his stuff after 1940 with photos, paintings, sketches, bits of films, etc. "the persistence of memory" is one of my favorite paintings and I got to see the real deal. that's pretty awesome. not many people can say the same. his stuff is so surreal that you almost don't believe it exists even though it's right in front of you.

and I hope to see video games live in february. what can I say, I like to have a plethora of life experiences. I feel like I went & did more stuff but I can't remember it right now. if I did anything else I'll edit it into this entry. it's too early for me to be thinking right now.

I run into this problem a lot at work. Either I'm in our game section putting back stuff, browsing for myself, or helping out someone who wants to rent a game -- I start talking to the customer about video games. And the males have this surprised look on their face as if they're amazed that they've finally found a girl who actually plays games. The looks themselves don't bother me as much as the dudes who are just... well, annoying, creepy, or both.

Guys, I understand girl gamers are a rare breed, much less the ones that play the games I do. But try to keep the creep level to a minimum if you're going to ask them out... or for their gamertag. Needless to say when this happens to me (today in fact) they get DENIED. Not that I didn't feel kinda bad doing it, of course... Thank goodness my boss decided to save me by telling me to go do something. And here I thought she didn't care about her employees.

Why does this kind of stuff happen to me? I've got other recent crazy stories, but I'm sick with a cold and have to work and then go back for inventory tomorrow. Doesn't that suck?

Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas or whatever else you may celebrate to you! I hope everyone reading this had a great day. I sure did. All I really wanted this year was the day off from work and some good food and I got both ♥ (I must be getting old if that's all I care about.) I also got some cash from my grandma for a new cellphone plus other expenses... mostly school-related.

This year I got my dad a new pair of shoes & "The Art of John Lennon" calendar, my mom a digital picture frame, & my grandma a stack of her favorite movies.

MERRY FREAKIN' CHRISTMAS!!

I didn't reply to the comments in my previous pleading post, but I wanted to thank those who recommended some stuff to me. It's gotten me off on a good start of spreading out my musical tastes again. Avenue Q is a good suggestion for anybody, but I actually already own the CD, have seen it on stage, and have listened to it so much that I could probably perform the thing myself. :P

--

On a more somber subject...

I saw in the paper that a friend of mine named Joe Pannell was killed in a motorcycle accident. He was a hair stylist who regularly cut my hair, so I had gotten to know him for a couple of years now. He was a super nice and funny guy and we always had great conversations about movies, music, life and stuff. Plus he always did a damn good job.

It's such a shame that this world is losing more and more good people all the time. It makes me think how precious life really is.

Rest in peace, Joe. I'll really, really miss you.

Le sigh. I feel like a complete idiot. Last weekend at work I got duped by a short-change artist and he ended up getting out of there with like $60. While this was happening, I had that familiar feeling that something just wasn't right about this dude, but it didn't occur to me to think "oh wait he's a quick change artist." I should've just given him his proper change, shut the register, and told him to gtfo. On a positive note, I am now armed with knowledge for the next time this should occur. But it also proves I can't do math.

It's no fun when your boss and coworkers laugh at you. Fuckballs.

Watch out. I’m cranky. I might even choke a bitch. For your consideration, I’ll put my possibly incoherent ramblings under an LJ cut because that’s what they were made for. Damn it.

I guess I’m cranky because after the engine warning light goes off in my car, another light decides to illuminate itself and piss me off with a constant barrage of worries. Thoughts like “it’s the IMA light; maybe there’s a problem with the connection between the motor and the battery” and “maybe it just came on because I filled it up recently and it likes to be a bitch if any bit of air gets in the tank” and the thought of the possibility of an expensive repair that requires money I don’t have. We get a hybrid car to save money, gas goes down, the warranty expires, then the motherfucker decides to have something wrong with it. Peachy. Hybrid cars are the wave of the future, right? Then how come no one knows a flying fuck about them and they’re a bitch when something goes wrong with it? ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH

My next rant is less serious but I feel I must type of it to let out some steam. On September 18th, 2003, I went next door to use my neighbor’s computer because at the time I had a Compaq that was a piece of shit and was out of commission. For those of you that know, Sept 18 is my birthday, so the reason I just had to use their computer was to go on the With the Will forum to make a topic about my birthday because I am an attention whore. I thought it was important at the time.

Fast forward to March 11, 2009, where I’m told when we somehow get on the subject that after I was done using their computer to check up on my favorite forum at the time, my neighbor decides to see what I looked at. Apparently the content “disturbed her.” What? My dad says that she said it was about “killing blondes,” but that might be inaccurate because my dad has poor hearing, poor memory and in general is just plain dumb. (And I mean that in the best way possible.) But seriously, as far as I can recall, the only sites I visited were With the Will and possibly fanfiction.net to check on feedback for my stories-- both related to Digimon. I no way endorse the killing of blondes. A lot of them are hot broads.

Maybe she read someone else’s post or comment, of which I was not responsible for because WtW and ff.net had and has some fucked up people (some are on my friends list :P). I could have been at a site on how to make pipe bombs or Satanism4Teens.org. Now that would have been worthy of the description “disturbing.”

The internet has gotten me in trouble a lot. I think rikkugrrl’s parents are still pissed at me about an email I sent years ago telling her to read this great story I found but it had some clearly labeled dirty chapters so I said ‘you might want to lock the door lololol’. Little did I know that they read her emails. WELL EXCUSE ME, PRINCESSES, BUT IT WAS A JOKE.

I regularly clear my history because I never know when my mom will decide to pop on and see where I’ve been or read my private conversations between people and decide to freak out at every mention of the word “fuck” even if I said it or not. She also insults me. I’m not a “nice girl.” I'm probably not.

NEWS FLASH

THE INTERNET IS A DISTURBING PLACE FILLED WITH DISTURBING PEOPLE OKAY

GET WITH THE PROGRAM YOU DICKHEADS

That being said, I happened to find a nice young gentleman by the name of __darkmatter who I decided to meet and form a relationship with after being told to avoid everyone on the internet because we’re all old, disgusting pedophiles. Maybe I actually know what I’m doing. So kindly fuck yourselves.

I feel a little better now. Peace out, yo.

It's so nice outside today at right about 80 degress. Hard to imagine that just last week we got 5 inches of snow. And this weekend the forecast is for mid-40s and rain. Now, I love rain, but I'd like to say just one thing to the weather around here...

MAKE UP YOUR FUCKING MIND!

xoxo,
Kaci

P.S.
Thought I'd give this a go again. This time it's 15 songs in 30 seconds: musical edition!! All the tracks come from either a stage or film musical.
The other night I watched Mirrors, which isn't that great of a movie. Behold the awesome. I even got out the camera to take a (bad) picture of him because pictures of the figurines online made his face look weird. Plus I’ve fitted him with the gun. Oh yeah.

On the subject of awesome and nerdy purchases, there's also my creepy-as-fuck Joker bobblehead (conveniently pictured below). But these guys are not the only two in my collection of toys and collectibles and other shit placed on my shelves. Some people (read: my family) don’t understand my fascination and passion for collecting this junk. I’m also frequently told, "You’re not gonna like this stuff when you’re 50!" Well, I beg to differ. There are some things that I love that will not fade with time or I’ll "grow out of." If I was gonna grow out of something, don’t you think it would have happened by now? So, stfu, I like my figurines because they’re cool and cool to have. It says to the world, "I like this series enough to purchase a bit of merchandise to display in my home."

But still, why buy this stuff? What’s the point? I guess the enjoyment I get out of it is the same kind of enjoyment people get from collecting stamps or snow globes or model trains or turds from every breed of dog in the world. But after you’re dead and gone, what becomes of your stuff? Well, obviously, it’s divided among your children or family, etc. But (maybe this will change) I don’t plan on ever having children and I worry about leaving this world without a mark on it except all the shit I bought.

Yes, I do worry about death... even at the young age of 20. But how can I not think about it, though? It’s everywhere: the news every day; family members are getting older and frailer (I’ve already lost my grandfather); a friend since elementary school collapses and dies. We weren’t sleepovers-every-weekend-and-tell-all-your-secrets-to friends or anything like that, but I still don’t think I’m over Amy’s death and it’s been over a year. But if you suddenly lose someone who you invited to your birthday parties, I think it would leave a hole in you for a while. Or am I just crazy?

... Anyway... buying a Rorschach figurine did not trigger this emotional insight. I’ve been thinking about it for a while, but moreso recently. Maybe it’s just anxiety. Maybe I need a therapist. Maybe it’s both. It's just that my greatest fear is dying and not having done what I think I'm here to do. Now calm down, I don't mean starting a religion or anything. I am just here to entertain you. I am just a puppet brought forth into the world for your amusement. I have decided this is my goal in life. Whether it be through voice acting, animation, stand-up comedy, shouting at people on the streets -- it will happen!

To conclude, and just for good measure, here are some puppies.

More stores should go out of business... because that's the time when there are great sales! Today at Circuit City I purchased a much-needed new keyboard and a modem for only $44.51 and $55.99, respectively. 45 bucks for a wireless keyboard this nice? Hot damn!

There were some problems getting it online, but after being on the phone with a Charter cable technician for a good 30 minutes, it's working now (thank god/buddha/random diety). I just hope the modem was the issue all along or else I'll have to deal with them again, but for now...

LET'S BOOGIE

I have been a beast at sales for the past two weekends at work. We were pushing our Rewards card before the price jumped back up to $20. Last weekend I sold a total of 11 and this past Friday and Saturday I reached 16 (13 on Friday night alone). That's 27 in two weeks, bitches! I'm right behind my boss in sales. Normally this would call for a raise (I asked :x), but because of our shitty economy I'm getting nothing. But hey, at least I have a job, so for the moment I'll just wallow in my own smug satisfaction.

I also went to the doctor tonight because of a painful ear ache I've had for the past three days and some abdominal pain. The verdict is that I have an ear infection. He gave me drops and told me to take pepto bismol and come back if I don't feel better. Boy I just love paying someone to tell me something that's damn common sense, but at least I got prescription ear drops so I don't feel like a complete idiot. So here's hoping I start to feel better!
