Yaye! I saw a good movie. Babysitter well worth the effort and expense!

Uhura and Spock. - Urgh. Felt wrong. When they were doing their sensitive and smoochy thing I wished I could ff to the next bit. I know it's an AU so they can take these liberties but whatever, I didn't dig it. Whatever happened to good old fashioned UST? They're planning on making sequels obvs, so why rush to reveal it? Oh well. Other than that (and the brief wtf moment when Cameron and Winona had their cameos)? I don't really have any complaints.

There were some great casting choices. I'm a bit in love with Bones, Scotty and Sulu. I'm definitely picking this up the minute it comes out on DVD.

Also, slightly on topic - I've decided Chris Pine is Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio's love child. He does some weird thing with his mouth when he talks so that his speech makes me think of Leo and definitely resembles a less attractive Brad Pitt. Tell me you don't see it?

Gale Harold (Brian Kinney!) was injured in a motorcycle crash yesterday. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit of Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. No other details have been given.

Also, wtf? How didn't I know he was on Desperate Housewives before this past Sunday? I never watch the show but the in-laws do. My obnoxious squeeing was difficult to explain. ;) I'm not sure I dig his role from what I saw, but damnit, I have to watch now.

So I can't be alone in my DEMENTORS DEMENTORS bit, can I? I mean seriously? The cold air is stereotypical ghost business so it's not like JKR/WB can lay claim but the hand on the mirror with frost? It's practically copyright infringement for POA. *giggles*

I'm glad Meg pointed out that Ruby II is in yet another innocent/unwilling host. Has this really never crossed Sam's mind? While it makes perfect sense that as a demon, Ruby II isn't interested in getting anywhere near an Angel... I'm suspicious. We're 'conveniently' in the dark about a lot of things concerning Ruby II and Sam. Though I'm holding fast to the belief that they aren't sleeping together.

I liked that Dean was pissed off and refusing to believe the whole God business. While it almost seems stupid to assume that there are demons and no angels, it brings up the very questions Dean has about the supposed almighty. However, I'm still not really on board with this whole myth arc. I don't know enough to be offended by the inconsistencies or care enough to get worked up over the subject matter but I'm bothered by the corner Kripke seems to be painting them into. Especially considering the vague references Jared and Jensen give about - eh. Nevermind. That's sort of spoilery for new episodes. But if you know what I mean, then you know what I mean. ?

Personally, I'm hoping this makes it into an episode of Fringe. And speaking of Fringe, Rolling Stone is comparing it (favourably) to X-files. I'm assuming they've seen more episodes than I have so this is good news. Also, JJ swears it won't be one of those shows where if you've missed an episode you'll be lost (pun intended).

Anyone watch Fringe last night? Medicine + zomg possible conspiracy + practically possible sci-fi = I want to watch. Luckily, it was worth watching! I think there are a few things I'm not sure about but, in general, I really like it. This is the first time in a long time that I didn't find a show utterly predictable. That alone will be reason enough to tune again next week.

If you missed the pilot and don't feel like hunting it down online, they're running it again on Sunday night (I think). I'm very optimistic that this show won't suck any time soon. BTW - you probably don't want to be eating during the first 10 minutes or so.

Daily Show, I LOVE YOU.

I've had this story in my mind since 8th grade. Part of me really wants to write it but part of me doesn't because fiction writing is NOT my thing. I don't have a natural gift for it and - let's face it - even with the gift, writing is hard work. Well, good writing anyway. And that's the other thing; I worry that I can't possibly do justice to the awesomeness of my story. I really need to practice writing fiction a bit (while I have the time). If I can get enough confidence in the process, I'll start the megaton of research I'd need for my story.

So... writers? I has questions. Let's say that you've got this plot bunny in your head. You know all the characters, their stories up to the starting point and where you want them to end up. You've got oodles of plot ideas. All the dots you'd like to connect are there. However, you don't know which order these dots should go in or how to best connect them. What do you do if you are at this point in your process?

Just start writing - and edit copiously later? Start an outline and arrange the dots first? Write the bits that are clear to you and then try to connect them? Do you do all of these depending on your mood? Are you one of those bastards that is a natural story teller and everything is usually perfectly formed in your head I hate you?

And while I've repeatedly seen the pros and cons on this in fandom, I'm asking more specifically: is writing fanfiction helpful or harmful to your original fiction writing skills? Yes, you personally.

(I'm leaving this public. If you have someone on your f-list that would be willing to share, point them this way. Also, if you've already seen an excellent discussion on this topic/created your own entry? Please link.)

OKLAHOMA CITY, July 14 (UPI) -- An Oklahoma City church called off plans to give away a semiautomatic assault rifle at a weekend gathering of teenagers, the church's pastor said.

Plans called for Windsor Hills Baptist to give away the weapon as a way of encouraging attendance at the gathering but plans changed when one the event's organizers was unable to attend, KOCO 5, Oklahoma City, reported Sunday.

The church's pastor, Bob Ross, said officials anticipated hundreds of teenagers from as far away as Canada would attend.

"We have 21 hours of preaching and teaching throughout the week," Ross told KOCO 5.

The church Web site featured a video showing the shooting competition from last year's conference. A gun was given away last year, but this year organizers decided to highlight the giveaway in promotions for the conference.

Ross told the TV station the church was not "putting a weapon in the hand of somebody that doesn't respect it who are then going to go out and kill."

The gun giveaway has been taken down from the Web site, but Ross said the church will give the gun away next year.

There have been a lot of Tornado sightings around here lately, which is a bit unusual for the Mid-Atlantic region (and pisses me off because we don't have a basement). Yesterday some local radio personalities were talking about which natural disasters they've experienced and are most afraid of experiencing. They settled on being snowed-in as the scariest. I think they're idiots, so I'm polling you.
