High Fidelity- the musical

I was lucky enough to go see a matinee of the new musical “High Fidelity” today. I have to say, the lead up to going to see it didn’t get me too excited. All the buzz I started to hear was all bad news. Not that it was the worst thing ever but that no one was enjoying it. Well….I have to say that I am glad I go see theatre anyway – this show was so much fun! It featured a really charming cast and some amazing lyrics by Amanda Greene.

If you are in the city and can get discount tickets- I recommend it.

DISCLAIMER: I have never seen the movie or read the book so I have only my reaction to the musical to go on. A high percentage of other people seem to not like this show but you aren’t reading their blogs now are you???

There and back again

Hi gang,

haven't posted in forever but finally have a few minutes to bog about my life.

I just returned yesterday from Singapore. It was a business trip and maybe not a place that I would normally choose to go, but I thought the idea could be cool too.

My biggest problem with the trip was the idea of flying. I don't like flying anymore. It isn't fun for me and it makes me very nervous. So the idea of 20 hours in a plane was not so thrilling.

Well I made it through the flights- I flew from NYC to Tokyo then to Singapore. On the way back, Singapore to Tokyo to San francisco to NYC. Talk about a long day....

So Singapore was fine. It was a little too much like NYC for my taste. (I love NYC but if I am going to travel to the other side of the world, I don't want to see Outback Steakhouse and Long John Silvers- Starbucks I expected)

The main reason for going to Singapore was to watch some live appearance shows of Teen Titans, Justice League and The Batman. They were three 20 minutes shows that were playing for about 5000 kids a day for 5 days. I was there for quality control - which was easy as the guys putting the shows together are old pros at this sort of thing.

I have to say, there is something to be said for going around the world to see a live show focusing on Zatanna :)

Overall, a fine trip but with so much work to do back here in the states, I wish our management had been smart enough to not accept the trip. Oh well, why should I expect brilliant thinking now.

So work is crazy- one of the guys who works for me left to go back to school and we have had a hard time finding a good replacement.

I have a lot that I want to do to improve the marketing at DC but alot is out of my hands. We shall see what I can get done.

And finally, Christopher and I have been together for just about 9 months and at times it feels like only 9 days or 9 years- both of which feel great! He is a prince among princes and I miss him terribly- he went to Colorado while I was in Singapore but he isn't back till Thursday.

GASP... AS I DYE MY HAIR BLEACH BLONDE!!! (Not a pretty sight, folks).

LAUGH... AS I MAKE AN ASS OF MYSELF WEARING A SUPERMAN SUIT FOR 10 KILOMETERS AROUND MANHATTAN!!

THRILL... TO THE SIGHT OF ACTUAL VIDEO FOOTAGE OF ME GETTING MY HEAD SHAVED (recreating the scene of Evey getting her head shaved by V in V For Vendettta).

This year, the DC Comics team is determined to beat their fundraising goal of last year, and I'm doing whatever it will take to make this happen -- including humiliating myself for the enjoyment of others. I saw a great Broadway play last night- The Lieutenant of Inishmore. I highly recommend it...unless the sight of blood freaks you out...or dead cats...or black comedies revolving around a dead cat plot point....just go see it

so I figured that I would give a little update as I haven't posted in a while (this is a post form a few days back but my laptop lost internet connect :( ):

-I am writing on my laptop as I sit in the windowsill of my new apartment. I have a whole different life than I had just a few months ago. I have been lucky enough to find the guy that I want to spend the rest of my life with...and lucky enough, he seems to want to too! So we decided to move in together once our leases were up.

We found a great (although expensive) apartment that is better than I ever hoped for. It is in a great location and has some fun personality to it. Christopher, my new guy, wanted to stay in the west village where he currently lives so I braved the ridiculous prices and we settled on a fine place right off of 7th avenue south.

Christopher is really going all out- painting the rooms and coming up with wonderful things to hang on the walls. We are still moving this week and so I am a little stressed out in that way where you just want to be done with it so you can begin your life. Soon, very soon, this will be done and I will be a happy man.

Right now I am waiting for a rug delivery- they don't give you a time, just a day....that is so annoying. I have been here since 9am and it is after 5 with no delivery. I am getting hungry :( (UPDATE- they ended up coming at 6:15 :(

So I just got done watching Battlestar Galactica - the new miniseries. I have to say, it totally lived up to the hype I have been hearing from everyone. Mat was nice enough to lend it to me and it was totally engaging all the way through!

I saw Altar Boyz last night and I highly recommend it- great if you like boy bands, great if you like Christian pop songs, or great if you like to make fun of the first two. And the character Juan had an amazing ass.

so far- a very diverse movie experience this weekend. Saturday night I saw "the White Countess" - a Merchant Ivory film about Americans and Russians in Shanghi 1936. It has Natasha Richardson and the Redgrave sisters in it. Today I saw Hostel- which thank god, redeemed itself in the last 10 minutes.

I think I deserve a prize for most well rounded movie experience in 24 hours ever!

BEST NEW YEAR EVER!

All I can say is that New Years Eve has never been an important or special holiday to me...but this year I got to spend it with someone so special and amazing that any day becomes a holiday.

2006 is looking to be the start of some amazing things. :)

so I haven't posted in a while...but I finally have something I want to write about. I went on my first date in a long while today- it was just a quick grab a drink kind of meet and greet.

Well, lucky me, this one is kind of nifty! He is uber intelligent and attractive and interesting and passionate and an all around good guy.

If I can just be on my good behavior for a while..or even better, that he can put up with my bad behavior....I think I would like to see where this goes.

He makes me smile. I haven't had that for a very long time. I have lived my life alone for a while and I think it may be time to change that.

so, I just got back from Burbank California- I had to do a presentation about my company to another division that works with our characters...I was all excited...till they made me follow another division that went all out! They had a game show set up and prizes for everyone in the audience. :(

so I haven't posted in a while...been busy. but I am so pissed right now- I was waiting on a friend to help me with my halloween costume but that doesn't seem to be happening so my company party on Friday is going to be a big bust for me as I have nothign to wear :(

Oh well, once this week is over with Toy Fair and Halloween, I will be in a better mood.
