HOW TO CONVERT VIDEOS TO YOUR IPOD

So you want to put a music video/t.v. show on your ipod do you? Well, my friend blowqueen wanted to learn, and I decided to share it with everyone so you can learn as well.

Things you will need:
- DVDShrink
- a DVD burner
- Videora iPod Converter
- Most recent iTunes
- Patience. I take forever to explain the obvious. Also depending on how big the file is you're burning it could take quite a while.

Step 1: Burning your dvd.
I'm going to do it with you, basically because I can't remember if I don't do it.
So, I've always wanted The Brak Show on my iPod, today it is what I will be uploading.
You can use pretty much anything, I'm choosing a t.v. show. It's up to you.

A.) To burn the dvd you will need DVDShrink. It is free, click here
to view it/download/etc.

B.) Once DVDShrink loads, push the Open Disc icon on the top left. It will begin to scan your disc:

I would also recommend removing the check mark next to the "Enable video preview," from the get go. Previewing it as it burns takes a longer time to process.

C.) So now the Full Disc Backup screen has come up. This is recommended if you are just making a
copy of the disc you're burning. We want the specific movie/episode/video, not everything. If you
use the Full Disc Backup for the iPod it won't read, and you wouldn't be able to navigate through
each menu anyway. :p

D.) Okay, so on the far right there is the Re-author button. Click it. With this, you can choose
which specific episodes you want to burn, and with a movie it will remove the menus and special features.
Find which file is what you need. To preview click on a file and press the play button on the bottom
left where the black screen is:

E.) Now you've figured out which one you're burning, so now the part where we actually burn it. Click the
file you would like, and drag it to the left column:

F.) Holy crap, this sucker is huge! Mine is over 500mb, what about yours? We need to fix this. To make the file smaller, click on the
tab that says Compression Settings. In the drop down menu, use Custom Ratio. If I put mine to 68% it reduces to 285mb,
what about yours?
Why am I doing this? Well, after burning a t.v. show that was over an hour long I have found out that DVDShrink will split the file in half. This means that when you play it on your iPod you will watch half and then have to go back to your menu and play the other half. I don't know about you but to me that sounds like a crappy deal.
I downloaded a t.v. show from iTunes and found that one of the hour-long show was 290mb, so since then I am making my files under 290. Now I'm no expert by any means, so if you know a way to fix this or know of anything you have downloaded that was bigger than this go ahead and make it to your liking.
Back to compression. Basically you are going to want to remove any extra audio and subpicture. You only need one of each, pick the smaller one for smaller files, pick the largest for better sound quality. I pick the smallest one, for me I haven't seen a huge difference, but you might.

G.) We are finally ready to burn this sucker. Click Backup!, the fourth icon on the top. It is now burning:

Like I said before this might take 10 minutes, might take 40. Depends on how big your file is.
Burn complete. Woo hoo! Now if you want to make sure the file came out to your liking you should preview it, make sure it's what you want. If not go back to the Compression Settings and play with it a little. You'll get the hang of this, promise.

Step 2: Making your video iPod/iTunes compatible.
This is the easiest step, once you have followed these first few steps you will never have to mess with it again, and will be able to just convert and go.

A.) To make your video compatible, you will need Videora iPod Converter. It's also free, click
here to view/download/etc.

B.) Once Videora loads, click the Setup button. Like I said you will only have to do this once.
Under settings, under the drop down menu One-Click Profile select H264/320x240/640kbps
Stereo/128kbps. You will use that option on every tab, so just remember it so you can put it in
quickly.
The Output Videos To, Device Drive, and Videora Install Directory are all the
same. Basically is, "hey where do you want the end file to go?" So browse and choose where you want it.

C.) Now click the Profiles tab. Under Existing Quality Profiles & Profile Name remember, put in the code
H264/320x240/640kbps Stereo/128kbps.
Your video settings need to look like this:
Mode: H264 > CBR
Resolution: 320x240
Passes: One
Bitrate: 768kbps
Framerate: Input
Your audio settings need to look like this:
Bitrate: 192kbps
Sample Rate: 48000Hz
Channels: Stereo
Volume: Whatever you want

D.) Now click the Profile Picker tab. Only thing you need to change is on top, change the One-Click Profile again to the code H264/320x240/640kbps Stereo/128kbps.
The Console tab you don't have to mess with.

E.) Now that we are done you are going to save under each tab, that way it's always set and ready.
Click Convert. Press One-Click Transcode. Select the file you just burned.

It's now transcoding, you can do other things while you wait for it to finish. Note though sometimes
it says it's 100% done and it's not even close, that thing is screwy.
So, while we are waiting I want to point out you can do multiple conversions at one time. So you could
burn multiple shows/videos and push convert and go take a nap. I know I would. :D
I think I'm going to make a wallpaper while I wait. I would have to say this step takes the longest,
even if it's the easiest.

F.) Once finished, it will say Transcode complete. Almost done yey!

Step 3: Getting the video on your iPod/iTunes.
For some of you, you already know how to add a video so just ignore me. But for those who don't follow moi.

A.) Open up iTunes, once loaded click Videos. Now click File > Add File To Library. Select your video and it should come up under your videos. OMG there it is!

I hope you learned from this tutorial. I also hope it was easy to understand while I'm at it. I'm not very good at explaining things most of the time so if you have a question about anything I covered comment here. I will do my very best to answer anything you might need, but I'm not an expert I just started this a few days ago...so nothing tricky eh?

I would like to say as well to all of you in case you didn't figure this out already, what we are doing here is illegal. Burning dvds is copyrighted, says so in the...copyright (shocker). So you don't have to remind me, I do know and I am going to continue to do so. Join me, let's do it together.
