Thu, 21:53: From a per capita basis, rural America isn’t all that safe either, especially when you consider the opioid and fentanyl crisis combined with pandemic fueled crime like gun deaths.
Thu, 22:18: Overall Cleveland is still going to hell in a handbag. It’s getting more shabby overall and people still aren’t sure why the crime is so bad. Just the same. I know what I know. Things WILL turn around sooner or later

Thu, 09:57: My dad’s cancer probably isn’t terminal. The problem is, my dad wants to be 20 again and he doesn’t want to be tied down by his crazy wife and his crazy adult children and his high maintenance grandchildren. Now that he has cancer, he’s really feeling trapped by us.

Tue, 18:42: Yet another another health insurance problem. Now we have a problem and 10 different people are telling us 10 different things. Of course the timing had to be exactly how it was. Like I needed one more thing to worry about. I keep telling myself it’s only money.
Tue, 18:50: I know it’s only money when I have a healthcare problem but sometimes I just don’t want to hear it. Sometimes it’s not about the money. I don’t get paid enough for what I do. There again, it’s only money but it’s not about the money.

Tue, 19:17: Our dog Simon has been eating but he only seems to like people food and one day he’ll want sourdough bread but not challah bread and then the next day he doesn’t want the sourdough bread. A couple days ago, Simon really wanted to eat a lot of beans.

Mon, 00:31: In the western world, we collectively have this expectation that money and power bring happiness. If you don’t have a lot of money and power, it’s not socially acceptable to be happy. A lot of the problem is this expectation of money and power.
Mon, 00:35: I can have empathy and respect for people who love the United States. This does not mean that I myself love the United States. I actually hate most countries but I can still respect those who love this country without loving it myself.
Mon, 00:38: It’s important to love and respect people in the humanistic sense. You can still love and respect someone without agreeing with them.
Mon, 00:43: Even if someone doesn’t agree with me, they can still respect ME and respect where I am coming from. It means they still heard me even if they won’t agree with me. It means we can either work things out or part ways on good terms without burning bridges. This stuff matters.

Wed, 17:11: So. My dad went in for more tests today. The results were more or less what we were hoping for, so it isn’t the end yet. Just the same, the cancer is aggressive. I think he has one more test before he can begin treatment. Just the same, he will need surgery and radiation.
Wed, 20:54: One of the reasons the Great Lakes has so much fresh water is not all that many people live here compared to the rest of the world. If climate refugees started moving here from the rest of the world, the cost of living would REALLY get bad and we wouldn’t have as much fresh water
Wed, 20:59: Transit in New York City is a case of induced demand. You could add more trains and add more subways and people would just take the trains or the subways more and things would STILL be crowded like never before. The problem is New York City is just too big to be sustainable.

Sat, 21:57: One of the things I like about riding an actual subway is the mystery of emerging from an underground station into the daylight and not knowing where you are, especially in an unfamiliar city. The sense of mystery is fun.
Sat, 22:09: In Akron they made rubber. All the other major population centers in Northeastern Ohio and Eastern Ohio had major steel operations. I’m just amazed there was a use for all that steel. Steel mills are such dirty places.

Sat, 22:15: To think I really wanted to work for General Motors at one point. Who dreams of working for General Motors? I wanted to be a machinist working for General Motors. Now I don’t want to work with anything having anything to do with cars.

Thu, 08:30: The problem with steel mills and other heavy industry is you can make them cleaner but you cannot make them clean. This is what people just don’t understand.
Thu, 08:40: Let’s suppose we decide to cancel Alexander Hamilton just because the dude was white. Now. That might really piss off a lot of people but we could still un-cancel him later.
Thu, 08:53: I was born in 1978. I’ve seen a lot of mass layoffs over the course of my lifetime. Every time, somebody well meaning said, “See? That’s why you need to become super educated. If you are super educated you won’t get laid off”
Thu, 09:03: Closing down hospitals is not going to make big pharmaceutical companies behave themselves. Democrats and Republicans are both bought and paid for by the pharmaceutical industries. The difference is the Republicans are more than happy to close down hospitals.
Thu, 09:15: Trump wants to defund and abolish law enforcement. That sounds a bit like “defund the police” or “abolish the police” to me. A lot of people on the far left and the far right really don’t care if the world is damned or not.

Thu, 22:47: The managers and schedulers that are good enough tend to leave the healthcare industry for better pay and better working conditions in other industries. This means the old norms might just go out the window. Getting caught in the middle is not fun.
Thu, 22:55: With all this subcontracting and sub-subcontracting, nobody knows who is responsible for me. The evening client who let me go recently didn’t even know what company I worked for.

Thu, 23:23: So. The nursing home subcontracted out to one agency for its workers and that agency couldn’t find enough workers so they subcontracted out to my agency. Then the client wasn’t happy and needed a different arrangement. Right.
Fri, 00:04: When Democrats want to defund law enforcement, we get skinned alive, even by other Democrats. I should know that by now. It hurt too. When Republicans want to defund law enforcement, people see them as heroes. What did us Democrats do that was so bad?

Tue, 18:16: May I never actually say this to the front office even though I have been thinking it for some time. I have found myself screaming profanities in public where nobody knows me in order to avoid saying these things to the wrong people.
Tue, 23:44: When you are handicapped, the people around are used to you being handicapped. When you start getting capable of doing more for yourself, you start turning into a different person and that can be a serious adjustment for some of the people that know you well. It’s crazy.
Wed, 00:09: When I was in my 20s, I really wished I had never been born. I was unable to hold down a job and I was not really able to care for myself. I was dyslexic, autistic, low functioning and clinically depressed It’s about finding the balance. Someone had to look after me.
Wed, 00:20: If some 20 year old white kid says he can’t wait to see the city go up in flames, people cheer him on and they do. Well. I DID say that a couple years back as a person in his 40s and people didn’t exactly cheer me on.
Wed, 00:23: Some of my acquaintances in high school redecorated under bridges and stole street signs and they smashed things and they trashed things. In thinking back on it, I’m amazed anything in this world works at all today. Maybe it won’t after a while.

Wed, 17:49: My youngest sister has a very exciting new announcement but I cannot spill the beans yet.
Wed, 18:54: My sister has made it official. I have a new nephew.
Wed, 19:02: The Cleveland area has an aging population and it’s leadership cannot and will not think outside the box. Even if they could, the people wouldn’t have it. Things will go the way they have been going and we will hope for the best. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen.
Wed, 19:09: The Cleveland area is facing some significant challenges through no fault of its own. It’s also dealing with those challenges in a very mediocre way. The leadership just keeps doing what is has been doing and it expects different results.
Wed, 20:16: My experience is nobody wants anything at all in their backyard, especially if they are retired and they really don’t care about bringing jobs or development to the area.
Wed, 20:24: Cleveland is a lower priced city. Traffic is generally good enough. I have a lot of family here. I know a lot of people here. I just don’t expect to see a whole lot of meaningful growth over the next 30 years.

Sat, 10:27: Some people are irritated with potholes and the damage they cause. As materials and labor get much more scarce and costs go up, those potholes will only get bigger. The plus side is people won’t drive as fast or as far and that will be safer and better for the environment.
