The end and the beginning. ( Final Post)

I have decided it's time for me to end this journal and start anew. I started this journal in 2003 and while I had ups and downs, friends leaving LJ for better social networks and such, I felt that I would stay on LJ because it's easy for me. Of course, I felt disconnected from my user name which I created after seeing a poster for "Frankie Starlight" in high school.

This isn't good bye forever but to say that one journal ends and another begins. I will be on LJ but under a new username fleeingbynight I will keep this journal open but there is going to be no more journals entries. So if you wish for me to add you to my new journal, let me at this entry or at my new one. I'm gonna try to switch the communities I'm on actively to my new journal so I can at least have them. I will be also transferring my doujinshi database to the new one so hopefully, it will be available.

I got into doujinshi in 1999 and I have been collecting them ever since. Doujinshi is a term refering to fan made books by Japanese ( or in some cases other countries) artists and writers who form "circles" or a group to create a manga styled book that parodies well known anime, manga, tv shows, or movies. Doujinshi ranges from "gag" stories to romantic and even erotic stories. Please note that doujinshis are never meant to be taken seriously or mistaken for the original manga or anime. What was your first doujinshi you owned? I guess it would have to be a Gundam Wing and a Weiss Kreuz one. I was new to it.

Will you be scanlating any of these titles/Can you scan this for me pretty please? No. I have no intention of scanning any of these doujinshi. This list is being compiled so people can have a reference guide so they can find the info they need to buy a copy for themselves and for me, so I can keep track of what I have collected.

What is your most cherished doujinshi you own? That would have to be the hardcover Devilman doujinshi by CLAMP.

Tackling my "Akira" phobia

In 1988, Katsuhiro Otomo directed a film that changed the way people saw anime. That film was called "Akira". "Akira" brought the gritty storytelling of a life amongst the remains of a decaying old Tokyo that was corrupted and awash in panic and fear. Childhood friends Kaneda and Tetsuo saw first hand what this new way of life lead. Tetsuo became a victim of circumstances after a recent fight left him injured and at the mercy of a fate he did not ask for. Kaneda's search for his lost friend brings him to a realization of Tetsuo's true feelings that bubbles along with the dangerous new power his friend becomes to wield.

Now you're asking why I had a phobia about "Akira"? "Akira" was a film I didn't understand. I had seen the trailer for it but never felt the desire to see. Also, the countless conversations I had with people who had seen it painted it as being " very gory and dark" Then when I had the chance to watch the film, my body triggered something inside me to turn off the dvd player just after the FBI warning ended. I even had a chance to attend a viewing of it at the university I worked for with a discussion with the film professor, however I didn't make it.

So, I resolved to watch the film this year and form my own opinion. The idea came after watching "Memories" which was also done by Otomo, Koji Morimoto, and Tensai Okamura. I swallowed hard when I pressed the play button. Tremors formed in the back of my spine, sending pulses to my hand to reach out and stop it. I made a promise to myself. I sat there and watch this story unfold. My fears subsided when what was promised to be a film raining in blood ( There were mass victims) turned out to be a story about an end and a beginning. That was the message I got. A cycle were one must end and one must begin. A film based on simple truth. This was not a film to be feared but to be embraced. This is what was considered to be groundbreaking in 1988. It's been over 20 years since then and Otomo continues to push the stories that makes you observe and think. My fear of this movie taught me not be so mindful to someone else's opinion. Fear is something you create yourself if not left to face it on your own two feet.

I'm on break at work so I figured I post a little bit. Last night, I finally got to finish Ang Lee's " Father Knows Best" trilogy after watching " Eat,Drink,Man,Woman" It was I think a great film. I had already seen " Pushing Hands" and " The Wedding Banquet" I had picked it up at Big Lots for three bucks so that was cheap. I never expected Taiwan to be so pretty! Of course, the cooking scenes including Mr. Chu blowing air down the beak of a cooked goose was interesting! Now I have to find " Tortilla soup " with Hector Elizondo because it's a remake of " Eat,Drink" I was looking at Amazon for the other movies and one is expensive while another is fairly priced despite being discontinued. More Later.

An adjustment of sorts

Now that I have started work again, my schedule should be set in stone as what my boss said at the meeting. So I guess I will be working 20 hours a week. This is fine with me because I like to keep busy and steady. With my spring break a couple months away where I am going to go to Jackson to see my dad, I can save some money up in my savings. I have a few things to take care of before summer. I really would like to get the Wii paid off. Right now, I am playing Resident Evil 4 and Victorious Boxer Revolution. I also been thinking about picking some new clothes out. I usually don't worry about my fashion sense, but I figure to take a little interest in my appearance. I guess it doesn't hurt in looking good just a bit.

A few weeks ago, my boss proposed a reward in exchange for perfect attendance. If employees were to come to work without missing work, being late, or leaving home early from now until May, they would receive a bonus check in June. Full time would receive an extra 24 hours while part time like myself would receive 12 hours. I figured this would be the motivation I needed to get up and work harder. However, as every day passes by, the bi-polar would start rearing its ugly head and make it harder for me to work. My moods would change, my vision or my balance would falter and my overall state of health would plummet. Yet, I trek on to the goal... Today was almost my breaking point. I asked one of the supervisors to meet with me in private and vented my frustrations that I have kept bottled inside. I told him the prize was making me choose money over my health. ( $87.36 before taxes) and I felt my grip on my well-being slipping away. I told him about how my mother has been in mourning over her husband for 10 months ( she recently found something) and the responsibility for bring in the money we need to survive the month has been placed on my shoulders. I told him about how I have to wake up early and ride my bike just to make sure I am there on time. I even told him that I was about to get ghetto on a chef because she disrespected the fact I am trying to do my job. I told him I was afraid I would be out of the running because I am not normal. I told him that while full time employees get what sick/vacation time paid out to them, I get nothing once the school year ends. I have no way of seeing a doctor because I don't have insurance. All I have is this little bit of money that I can use if I stick it out. It's sad that your own survival is measured in dollars and cents. With the economy being in the shape it is, every cent counts. I sometime feel like I have lost my nerves, my grip on reality, and even my dignity for a few bucks. Isn't that sad? I could just find a better job but who would hire me with mental illness and all? I may have my moments but am I a liability to a company? I can't go back to school because I have to quit work and go back on what little money I get. Life and the business world isn't fair... I know that much to be true.

Well, Got paid and attending the Breaking dawn party tonight so I will be out a little late tonight. Course, I have to work the next day but afterwards I'm heading to Hoosier Park for a round or two with the one arm bandits. Just taking in $20 and not spend my winnings ( If I can get any...) Hope I come out a little bit richer. Nah... I'm not aiming for some big numbers. I would be lucky if I won enough to pay bills for the month. Photos and winning totals later...

Well, with about a week away, I have managed to get caught up in the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer and with the final book coming out Aug. 2, I will be attending the release party. I have my outfit being clean. ( I can't dress up as one of the characters cause... for some odd reason, I'm having a hard time visualizing them.) My father has already reserved a copy for me cause he work at a books a million and got me a discount but I will be attending the waldenbook party. I promise pictures and such for those who are interested.

Yes, it is that time again when good little christians come from all over the place and flock to Anderson. This year, a good chunck of them are opting for the internet in lieu of paying $4.20 a gallon. It's amazing how technology has come full circle to allow people and their beliefs to be allowed access to this convention this year. If it works for students who can't make it to classrooms, it should be able to work for whole congregations. I have a feeling within the next decade or so, we may see whole weddings and even funerals being performed via the web.

ps. for those who likes a bit of "spirits" with the good book, please note that the costs of alcohol will be high here. So B.Y.O.B.

Whenever the question, " What is the american dream?" ( Or replace "american" with your country of origin) come up. I think the answer is universal. To own my own home. The comfort and security of having a shelter to call your very own without the headaches of rent or mortgage coming in letter form each month is very freeing. Yes, I am a part owner of my home with my mom and I am enjoying it. Sure, you have property taxes every year not to mention insurance ( which I must stress to anyone who own a home to stop right now and get some insurance now if you don't have any. Don't be fooled with the notion that just because some poor family house was burning, robbed, or flooding on the six o'clock news doesn't mean that won't happen to you!) Our trailer ( yes, I did say trailer.) is free to be done in anyway we want it to be. And we have decided to trick it out into a style forward, eco friendly rockstar! We are faced with the idea that somethings will need to be replaced and repainted. Isn't that the whole fun of it? The pouring over paint samples and the debate of tile vs hard wood flooring. ( Easy to assemble bamboo flooring, baby!) Your home is your canvas and it will be you living in it so choose wisely because nothing says tacky when your best friends and family come over and start to snicker behind your back. And most of all, all that money you spent in rent or mortgage payments will come in handy for some new items ( *cough* flat screen tv in every room!) Got to run. Later.
