Asp Ave Dispatch
May 30, 2023
Good morning,
I just wanted to share some updates with you all.
I have been sick all this week. I came down with some bug about a week ago, and I'm getting better, but I'm not all the way there yet. I don't write or do anything creative when I am sick, so the episodes I was working on (including an overly ambitious one) have been delayed. But the good news is that I have been writing the last few days, so I am getting back on track. So more episodes are coming!
A few weeks ago, I joined a Substack Group/Record Label called LABELABEL. We are a group of experimental musicians, including MITER Peter Blasevick Qid Love Dan Mylius CODECXS
I am honored to be among these innovative artists. Be sure to check out their work.
Here is a link with more information about LABELable and another post about how this project could work as a template for sharing music in the future.
Well, I know what you are thinking. But, JD, aren't you more of a writer than a musician? What are you doing on a record label? Yes, while my main focus on this page is my fiction, I also make music. You can find one of my projects HERE. You can also go to the Deseret Buffalo tab on my Substack, which links to my Bandcamp page. I will be uploading a post soon giving some backstory concerning my musical adventures, but in the meantime, I would appreciate it if you mosey on over there and listen to my music.
My friend CODECXS is accepting submissions for his experimental film festival. CODEXS has been involved with experimental films for twenty years and previously ran a traveling film festival. So, if you or anyone you know are interested in entering, please submit your work or pass along the info. This festival is an excellent opportunity for experimental filmmakers to get their work seen.
Finally, thank you, everyone, for all the wonderful feedback and encouragement you have sent me. This year has been difficult, and it continues to be difficult. But Yggdrasil Dogs and your support for it is keeping me going. So, this is a reminder that if you enjoy what you are reading, please tell anyone you think might also like my work. I‘m confident that Asp Ave is one of Substack’s best-kept secrets, and there is an army of quirky bookworms out there waiting for Yggdrasil Dogs. We just have to do a little matchmaking.
Thank you,
JD McBride

the Message of the day from my mom: You don't know how strong you are until being strong is the only option you have 🤗
Thanks! I'm reading this late and hope you're better now.
