| "Mommy, we don't have any peanut butter."
"I bought a jar last week, Lynn. Look for it."
"It's all gone."
"...You ate all of my peanut butter?"
Something about the situation seemed off to Janie. Was this really her daughter? The five year old resembled the teenager, but she was only eighteen.
"I'm sorry."
"Eat some bread." Janie said, shaking her head. This was an occasion where her memories felt like they were spinning around in a blender, and reality felt as thick as pudding. This happened occasionally, but recently it was happening more and more. "Eat some bread"
"When are we getting real food?"
"Um... tonight? We'll get fast food."
"That's not real."
"It's food."
"Can we have tacos?""
"I'm a vegetarian, sweetie."
"Please?"
"Okay." Janie made a note to call her Father- someone she barely knew was alive, and ask him if he knew anything about raising a kid.

Clocks don't work very well in her world, so time is measured by the sun and the days don't vary very much. She's young, and until she is older they do not intend to change her routine any.

| for all interaction in thedressingroom, Janie is a thirteen year old orphan, and has lived in an African military compound since age 8, where her Grandmother runs an organization that is structured a lot like a 'time police'. There are 15 others in the group, not including her Grandmother, eight males and seven females. She is a natural time traveler, but is not yet mature enough to have control over where and when she goes, unless using a machine. The others in her group are programmed to rely on the devices. | |

| Janie happily waited on the swings for anyone who wanted to be her new friend. She was in a strange place where she could meet anyone and everyone, but it was something she was used to. She didn't even have to be afraid anymore, and she was changing time and place.
Would she ever stay in one place, and be able to call it home?

| "Janie Louise Potts, you get in this house right now!" The little girl looked down at her already scuffed Christmas shoes and backed further into the trees. Mama would be mad if she saw the scuffs. Shoes were a lot of money and she was supposed to wear them to church on Sunday. Her dress was dirty and her stockings were torn; Janie Potts was in trouble. ( Read more...Collapse ) | |
