Hm, it appears Dreamwidth's importer doesn't distinguish between things it's imported before and new content.

So now I have some duplicate entries to clean up. Oops. And I guess going forward the tidiest thing will be to create any new posts on DW and tick that crossposting ticky to mirror them to LJ. So that's what I'm doing.

Came up a little shy yesterday, but made it up today with a little bit of buffer.

My plan this year was to work on existing and/or unfinished pieces instead of starting something new, but what has grabbed me (for the moment, at least) is a rewrite/fix-it fic of Sleepy Hollow 2x5 The Weeping Lady mainly from Caroline's point of view. I've been mulling over it for a while - ever since it aired, honestly - and I had no idea it wanted so desperately to be written, but who am I to argue? ;)

Legacy challenge generation one

My first generation nest hatched today.

They gave me a three-egg nest, which I figured was pretty good odds of getting _something_ decent.

Alas, only one with a gene, and it's not my heir.

_But_, my heir is at least not a Mirror, and decent colors (his tert is white) which make him the handsomest of the lot imo, so that's a step in the right direction. I'm pretty sure I'd get more from exalting his brothers than selling them on the Auction House, so as soon as they grow up I'll level them and off they'll go to serve the Gladekeeper.

I'll keep Adam as a gene project. Lookit how neat he looks as a Skydancer!

But I think I'll sell Eve instead of trying to gene her up, too.

I would like to invite all of you up to my house for Christmas this year. In an effort to accomodate differing work schedules, or other commitments, I hope that those who can make it for Christmas Eve (an ancient Tofelt tradition going back to Grandpa Tofelt The Elder, inventor of the Christmas tree and Leif Ericson's navigator) can be here in time for dinner around 6:00 pm. Among other delicasies Granny Style Mac 'n Cheese will be served (blatant bribery attempt). Gifts to/from those present will be opened after dessert, then all who wish to can spend the night in varying levels of luxury accomodations. Please bring stockings (no pantyhose, yuck) - to be hung by the chimney with care, of course - and we will see what Santa brings over night. I decided to try to make lemonade out of the lemon (aka that fugly Mirror I hatched), so have started on justjasper's legacy challenge (or on Tumblr here) with him.

So, I named him Adam, and bought him a girlfriend, Eve.

Their babies should be... interesting.

But at least it's 50/50 they won't be Mirrors, which I consider a win. I was tempted to give him a Pearlcatcher or a Ridgeback, but the odds would be in favor of Mirror babies there, so no thanks.

Sooo I made what are probably a couple of newb mistakes today.

I wasn't happy with the progeny previews when I paired one of my hatchlings (Maize/Shadow/Lemon) with _any_ of the males in my lair, so I Scatterscrolled her.

Oops.

And then I was exalt leveling her in the Kelp Beds and an Unhatched Water Egg dropped.

O_O!!!!!!

Because I'm a doofus with no impulse control, I hatched it.

Boy do I hate Mirrors. Even their babies aren't cute.

I appreciate the difference, though, because my biggest gripe about Eleven was that he wasn't different _enough_ from Ten.

Wow, first dream I can remember in a long time, and it was about Jamie Dornan. Ahhh, thank you, brain. :D

We were both teachers - well, tutors, I suppose - in the after-school program where I used to work, and one day as we were saying our goodbyes, he said it was actually his last day, that he was going back home. :(( So I hugged him. And then he took me to an Irish pub (everything else about the part of town we were in felt Hispanic) and I had _just_ ordered myself a dirty martini when my alarm went off.

Bad Abraham! I said no wooj/coercion. Also I continue to be a little confused and a lot disappointed that Katrina's supposed to be such a powerful witch and yet she can't escape. Serilda _flew_ when they had her under the net, Katrina transported herself when the coven was closing in on her before Jeremy was born. Where's all that magic now? Come on, writers. You made her strong, let her be strong!

It turns out I didn't fly out to Missouri after all. My flight was supposed to be at 10am and I woke up at like 5 sick to my stomach. *shakes fist at body's stupid timing* I took some Pepto and tried to go back to sleep but no dice.

So I canceled my flight. Idk if it was food poisoning again (though I couldn't remember eating anything dodgy) or if I actually had something, but I didn't want to spend four hours on a plane while sick, and if I was infectious I certainly didn't want to give it to any of my friends, the bride, or one of said friends' twin babies.

So that sucked. In hindsight I was maybe a little over-cautious, because I was... okay, I guess, the rest of the weekend. Not "right," because my stomach was sore (despite that I didn't throw up or retch _that_ much) and everything I ate for three days was like "are you suuuuure?"

On the upside, Dad, who had arranged to take the kids because Alan had to work, still wanted them, so Alan and I had a nice quiet house and got some good, and overdue, us-time. We snuggled on the couch and watched a movie on Saturday after he came home, and had brunch on Sunday once my stomach wasn't feeling rebellious anymore. The kids had fun, Grandpa had fun. There was snow at the pass (surprise!) so Liam was introduced to that while they were out on a drive. Apparently he was really bothered by it sticking to his shoes, which sounds adorable.

I FLY OUT TO MISSOURI IN LESS THAN TWELVE HOURS. Wow that snuck up on me. It was all, oh, end of the month, a couple weeks, the Thursday after next, and suddenly TOMORROW. How did that happen?

I should be packing but instead I'm doing that do-everything-except-for-what-you-should-be-doing procrastination thing. Like, oh, I can't pack unless I wash _all_ my laundry. Like, every piece of clothing I own has to be clean, even the stuff I'm not putting in my suitcase ~~because I haven't decided yet what _is_ going into my suitcase~~.

The friend I'm staying with has work on Friday so I may have the day to tool around town or find a museum or park or library to hang out in with my laptop. I have yet to duplicate the sublime experience of writing in the Louvre's statue garden but I have hope ;)
