Before you contact me, I must emphasize: I am not a literary agent and I am not a publisher. However, here’s how to find an agent, and here’s how to find a publisher.
At one point in my career, I was able to personally respond to every message I received. That has become much harder over time. The volume of people reaching out has surpassed my ability to keep up. My business partner, Mark, acts as a filter for general requests and may help you first. He worked in the publishing business for 20 years and knows how to provide answers like I do. I am not currently available for one-on-one consulting and editing work.
This means:
- I do not read and provide editorial feedback on manuscripts or book proposals.
- I do not provide referrals to agents/publishers or help with agent/publisher research. (Try Copy Write Consultants.)
- I do not provide hands-on marketing and publicity services. (I’m not a marketer.)
Also:
- I am not a book reviewer and do not review books of any kind.
However, I do recommend trusted services and freelancers in the community. I also have a private resource list I can share if the public list doesn’t fit your needs.
Please be aware of scams in the writing and publishing community.
There has been an absolute avalanche of scams in the writing and publishing community in the past couple years, mostly powered by AI. If you receive an email out of the blue from a big-name author, agent, publisher, TV/film studio, or anyone else, 99% of the time, it’s a scam. Marketing and promotion scams are especially prevalent, especially book club scams. Writer Beware tracks these scams. I’d also read this article in the Guardian for an idea of how sophisticated and broad-ranging these scams can be.
I probably send a dozen emails a week telling people, “Yes, it’s a scam. Ignore.” Writers are so desperate to receive attention for their work, and so hopeful their work will finally be noticed, they are unfortunately easy targets for predators.
