What does taking the PNOĒ Max VO2 test involve?
Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) Test
The first part of the PNOĒ Max VO2 test measures your resting metabolic rate (RMR), which is how much energy your body needs to function while at rest. This test is simple and non-invasive. You will arrive on an empty stomach and be outfitted with a chest strap heart monitor and face mask attached to a small power pack. After ensuring the mask fits tightly, you will lie down and relax for about 10 minutes. This allows the test to determine what fuel sources your body uses at rest, providing insights into your metabolic health.
VO2 Max Test
The second part of the test measures your VO2 max, which is the maximum amount of oxygen your body can utilize during exercise. This part is more physically demanding. You’ll start with a three-minute walking warm-up on a treadmill to establish a baseline. Then, you’ll run while the treadmill’s speed progressively increases. The goal is to ramp up your heart rate to its maximum level over 12 to 15 minutes. This data helps identify factors that might limit your peak performance during training.
