Climate Depression an optimistic outlook
The five stages of Acceptance
or the way in which people cope with unwelcome news are commonly described as –
denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.
Several commentators have applied those stages to the climate change issue as a metaphor about the way various groups have responded to the finding that the unrestrained burning of fossil fuels is very likely to to impose significant and unpredictable amounts of warming, changes in ocean chemistry and unprecedented changes in sea level. Peer reviewed peer
With abject apologies to Hot-Topic who has done this sir Henry Rawlison / Lord Monckton pastiche so much better!
But I have got tired of waiting for a new episode and recent events seem to warrant one so I have had a go at writing my own….. wish I could think of an animation to go with it!

His Lordship sat back in his library chair behind the desk purchased by the seventh marquis and looked with contentment on the slim magazine that lay on the smooth leather surface in front of him. All was good with the world, he thought, let them try and ridicule him now, he was a published, peer-reviewed author of a key scientific paper which would overturn the world of climate science. He was a peer, peer-reviewed in a reputable and famous journal ( impact factor 1.365!).
A warm glow of happiness filled him as he looked again at his published paper and took a sip of the golden liquid in the small glass by his side.
He was a peer reviewed peer he mused, but of course the reviewers were not peers as well so they weren’t really his peers, …

Making Snow While the Sun Shines
First, a short(ish) digression..
It has been several years since I was active in the climate blog discussions; – cue nostalgic memories of the delirious days of Delignpole at the Telegraph and post-climategate and see Footnote 1 at the end for a link -These days I mainly lurk!
It was an accident of coincidence that the time after Christmas I had available to get involved in a climate blog discussion thread and the time available to finally set up a long term project, this blog, intersected.
So the sudden influx of visitors and blogroll link at HotWopper provided an unexpected kick-start. Not the first time a blog has benefited from piggy-backing the climate debate ! However the intention is for this blog to cover rather more than climate. I intend to try and combine the Climate issue, which has roots into the fundamental economics of society in a way which the Evolution issue does not, with an interest in the visual media and the use of CGI to communicate, in a post in the pipeline with the working title –
“AGW = A Major Concern ?” – An Animated discussion !
Which will combine the climate issue with another video using some of the visual communication methods now available for general use. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, perhaps an animated picture is worth even more… but a thousand pictures is only around 40 seconds of animation, and can take hours to days to render and edit so be patient!
Here is a little taste –
In the meantime here is a little side-reflection, a filler post on something triggered by Richard S J Tol’s recent contribution to the debate on adaption and mitigation to cater to all those new visitors with a taste for the climate pigpen… –

A couple of weeks ago I was involved in a discussion about the difficulties of public education and how to persuade the general population that climate change really might be a major concern that warrants significant action.
The majority were arguing for the effectiveness of the ‘scientific consensus message.

It Tol’s for thee
Post-mortems of other blog threads are not something I would favor, but this recent episode generated such a series of quotes from a ‘name’ economists that I could not resist the opportunity to preserve them while the memory is fresh…
otherwise I will be unable to find or remember them later and would find it hard to believe he actually SAID that!
Just after Christmas I found myself involved in a discussion at the ‘And Then There’s Physics’ Blog with Noted Economist (at least in his own opinion) Richard S J Tol.
I will start after I had questioned his assertion that nothing in climate change was a major concern. –

Please be a bit more specific. Why are ocean acidification, agriculture, or sea level rise major concerns? Why is greenhouse gas emission reduction the best way to lessen these concerns?

My Nephew asked me if I could do a lyric video for his song at the end of 2014.
He showed me an example and suggested a road-driving theme…
