iVetSchool is a problem based learning tool for training veterinary medical students. The goal is to present media-rich cases in a format that closely mirrors situations that veterinary students and graduate veterinarians commonly encounter in the practice of veterinary medicine. The app was developed through the collaborative efforts of Drs. Ann Rashmir-Raven and Matt Raven at Michigan State University and Dr. Robert Linford at Mississippi State University with significant contributions from Drs. Kent Ames and Rob Malinowski at Michigan State University and other veterinary medical faculty at Michigan State University, Mississippi State University, and Ohio State University in conjunction with Venturit, Inc. and Information Technology Services at Mississippi State University. Veterinary faculty with demonstrated excellence in teaching large animal medicine and surgery developed the case studies and lead the development of the App. The project was made possible through funding from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Higher Education Challenge Grant Program.
Version History This update from Apple will improve the functionality of this app. No new features are included. Improved case download experience. 2.3 11/03/2014 Expanded the app’s capabilities. Videos can now be linked to specific cases. User now has option to download and remove videos from devices when no longer needed. Updated the Flash screen. Added collapsible feature related to case listing. Added search option in the diagnostic tests section. Enhanced performance. Bug fixes. 2.2 10/29/2014 Fixed issues with case images, dragging items to problem list and removed html tags from case text. 2.1 01/21/2014 Complete redesign with iOS 7 support. 2.0 11/27/2013 Minor Bug Fix 1.5 05/30/2013 Major Bug Fix. The last version introduced a bug that is now removed. 1.4 05/16/2013 Fixed problem with initial load of the application crashing on 4th gen iPod 1.3 05/06/2013 Added a condensed case reference review mode. This is for practicing veterinarians to see the cases with only the relevant information presented. Added a veterinary library for access to examinations, procedures, tests, and treatments that have “how to” or “extra information” about them. This library will let users access content universal to the cases. Expanded the app’s capability, it now can present videos. The users can download the videos or view them streaming if they have a wifi connection. This selection will be updated as the case authors add more content.
