Project RISE: Overview

Project RISE is the University of Kentucky’s strategic investment in modernizing and improving the way the University uses SAP software and the myUK portal for operations like finance, human resources, procurement and student lifecycle (e.g., enrollment, registration). Project RISE focuses on transitioning from the University’s existing SAP applications to a newer, cloud-based version. It leverages advanced technologies like machine learning and automation to enhance business efficiency and speed. 

Coming July 20, 2026! Project RISE will result in an updated and personalized user-experience, improved performance, enhanced functionality and embedded cybersecurity and feature updates for essential administrative operations.

What You Need to Know
  • Thursday, July 16 at 6 p.m. - Monday, July 20 at 8 a.m. - All SAP systems will be down for maintenance.
  • Monday, July 20 at 8 a.m. - A more modern SAP goes live! Some things may look and act different, but we will have resources to support you.

SAP S/4 Early Access

As part of the transition to SAP S/4, an early access period will be available starting June 11 through July 10 to help users build familiarity with the new system ahead of go-live. 

Early access is your opportunity to explore SAP S/4, try key tasks, and get comfortable with the updated interface in a low-risk environment.

  • Want sneak peek? Early Access opens on June 11, allowing for employees to experience a test S/4 environment.
  • Phase 3 of Systems Integration Testing (SIT) concludes June 10, including over 180 employees testing.

SAP on any device, anywhere!

  • Launch SAP from an intuitive browser-based interface accessible from any device with a web browser! No GUI installations anymore! 

  • Embedded help and tutorials to easily navigate the system. 

  • Universal search functionality! Search for any text within the system and drill down to specific data or applications directly from the search results. 

Modernized Platform

  • The Universal Journal brings together Financial Accounting (FI) and Controlling (CO) into one pool of relevant business data for a single source of truth. 

  • Grants and funds management included in the Universal Journal for streamlined processes and reporting. 

  • Business Partner functionality simplifies master data management by using a single entity for both users and vendors. 

Enhanced Access to System Information

  • Re-usable data modeling enables efficient data access and analytics between Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) solutions. 

  • Improved data integration processes that will result in process and performance advantages for users. 

  • Coordinated and unified reporting solutions developed in partnership with business owners, Institutional Research, Analytics, and Decision Support (IRADS), UK Information Technology Services (ITS) and other entities, (e.g., Beyond Blue) to ensure consistent and accurate data across the enterprise. 

Simplified Infrastructure & Cybersecurity Model

  • Secure-by-design and Secure-by-default cloud services align with the University's cybersecurity posture. 

  • Frequent, automated upgrades and security patches reduce downtime while unlocking the latest capabilities.

What will the UK community see?

These features will be delivered through the redesigned myUK portal launched in January 2026 and modular, cloud-based suite of applications for SAP Finance, Human Resources, Procurement, Student Lifecycle and other core business functions of the University. Access to the new systems will be the same, through the myUK portal using the familiar linkblue secure authentication.

When will these features be available?

The SAP RISE project will be a phased rollout with a complete launch in July 2026. ITS leadership is in discussions with partners across the enterprise to make informed decisions on the release timeline. Stay tuned for more information!
