Run neatly wild

Seed-heavy grass
Combs to mismatched tufts, between
Wallaby foot-paths -
Frost gnaws at gloves,
Highlights hedge-top leaves,
Turns green grass pale. -
Sunbeams pour downhill
Cut into electrum spray
By dry, grey grass -
The morning's rain
Makes sparkling asphalt, and grass
Fine-bladed and green -
Beneath lush trees,
Grass runs red, orange, yellow;
Old straw, and new green. -
Green grass repels
A film of yellow leaves
Into bright droplets -
beyond lawns
phalaris spears guard water,
seed-heads ready -
The cream lace sprays
Of old grass undulate, dry.
The trees —
remember -
The grassy hill
At flood tide, breaks 'cross the road
Council scrapes it back
