colour – Jenkins Rising

March 23rd

this first fog, enough
to paint grass turquoise-grey, plus
a few extra wisps

sunset silhouettes —
grey trees, blue clouds;  and sepia
the sky behind

like spears between
this one tree's red-orange leaves
the sunset light

purple! lightning!

then the sky is grey.   world, cold.
    colour, a memory

the first wattle,
 streetlamp-lit against the night

pure   acrylic yellow

red and green parrots
peck at a carpet of seeds
then disappear — whoosh!

at day's last breath
across a sky not yet black
the stars fade in.

January 31st

yellow! purple!
mild-mannered leaves give way
to patterned flowers

against these bright
oversaturated leaves:
pink neon roses

at day's last ebb
blue and white, behind dark leaves
the sky fluoresces
