mountain-tops shiver
break-neck through trees, clouds, people
the chill wind races

-
Frost's fingers reach
Even the stars. Squeeze them — tight —
Pale, sharp and cold. -
From frosty trees,
Galahs rise, to glide over
The mist-soaked town -
The ice-hounds roam
Leaving frozen footprints
In cold concrete -
A gray blanket
Enfolds the Earth's chill orb
To fall as frost -
The white rocks mark
River-gullies through the grass
Flowing ever cold -
the bird-bath freezes
black in the bright day, sealing
depths no wing can plumb -
Frost makes rainbows
Of the few, the bright — stars, strewn
In a full moon sky -
Pink feathered cloud —
Roof for pink galahs, their cries
Sharp as the sharp cold. -
Fennel, woodsmoke, frost
Scent the still, murmuring air
This moonless night
