a few days before school started we decided to get some "back to school" shopping and went to the citadel outlet. :) i got a faux leather jacket from max studios and a pair of tan oxford heels from nine west!!! i bought a jumpsuit on my own a few days later (from foreign exchange). retail therapy really works. pictures will be updated soon!!!

on a more frustrating note, i did not have the best first day of school today. club obligations got me very stressed the night before. i woke up at 7am without an alarm (having slept at 2 something in the morning) i went to the wrong class this morning and had to go to the library and check which room it was in, which made me a good 20 minutes late for class. afterwards, i still had club obligations to deal with. it was just a super stressful morning. i'm so glad i don't have class tomorrow. now i can focus on my OCI applications and work on my interviewing techniques. the hiring process mentally tires me out. gotta be prepared for it.

day three

...is a simultaneous bad and good day. let me explain...

i woke up around 9:30am and we went out to causeway bay (tong lo wan). then we went shopping....which was bad. me and my sister racked up a HUGE HUGE bill. i didn't even notice until the lady calculated the total. ohmymy. the bill was a total of 5100 HK dollars, which is a estimated equivalent of $700 USD! yeah....of the $700, i spent $300. *sadness* i had HUMONGOUS buyers remorse. i don't know what to do. i didn't even buy alot. it was a total of 5 items...all for 3 benjamins! i don't even do that in the states. i felt REALLY REALLY bad. that's my shopping for the rest of the year. no more.

good thing is that we had an amazing dinner at my aunt's resturant today. yummy yummy. lots and lots of seafood.

tomorrow is my cousin's wedding so i will be updating about that tomorrow night or the day after tomorrow. it depends on my state of tiredness. i'm excited!

hong kong

i'm in hong kong right now. the time here is 7:32pm. :)
so, the first day....

plane arrived at HK airport 5am. the level 8 typoon warning is hoisted 30-40 minutes AFTER we arrived, so we are quite lucky to have made it here before the big bad typoon hit. when we got home, it was raining like crazy so we waited outside--a few blocks away--from our house to watch the rain come down...harder and harder. when it finally (kinda) stopped, we made our way home....time then was around 7am. didn't really do anything the first day because of the typoon, so we rested at home.

second day...

woke up at 10 something. had breakfast and went to tsuen wan for shopping!! yay!! we bumped into a lot of family members there. it was fun fun fun. shopping was awesome and we were very pooped out by the end of the day. i bought a pair silver high heels for my cousin's wedding in two days and a yellow bag!!! my dad and mom went crazy. lol. <3

dinner's in a few minutes. so i leave you guys with a thanks for reading about my two days here in hong kong! ♥

i feel so old!!! i am at the ripe young age of 18--the prime of my youth--and i feel old. it's because these dramas keep starring freaking young-ings. my jang geun-seok up there is only 20. he's still older than me, but there's all these 1990-ers are breaking into the entertaiment business, and i feel like a pedo everytime i say, "ohh...so and so is pretty cute" only to realize that he's only 14 or something...the media needs to stop exploiting little kids. *sad sad* case in point: this new korean boy band, shinEE:

we had a birthday party for my uncle, aunt and daddy today; they decided to celebrate it altogether. yeah. played super smash brawl on Wii, which was very fun :). i was bad at it, but whatevers. the adults didn't get around leaving until about 1 in the morning. so now..., after cleaning up and stuff, i have a case of INSOMNIA. C-A-N-N-O-T S-L-E-E-P!!! gahhh....

so...what better thing to do than watch K.U.S videos when you've got the case of the cannot sleeps. i spent about 40 minutes watching the videos and....ahhh...so nostalgic. i miss those days. i really REALLY want another one of those KUS filming days: a broken AC in a 105 degrees fahrenheit room with nine girls clamoring about in the background with costume changes, makeup, dance rehersals, etc.

i miss high school.

on a side note, i'm still deciding on whether or not i should go to AX this year. the fact that it's gonna be in LA convention center makes me not want to go. but i want to go just for the sake of seeing old buddies and reliving the madness that is anime expo. i shall see....

ahhh.....i'm currently obsessed with tae wang sa shin gi, The Four Gods. it's such an amazing kdrama. i love LOVE LOVE ♥ it. bae yong joon is really good looking in the drama. ahhh....i have so much love oozing throughout for this drama!!! ♥

i urge you to check this drama out and watch it so that i can have someone to spazz with.

i've adjusted all to well to the latitude of collegeDOM. *sad sad* i've been so bad lately. especially this week.

- i ditched monday's econ lecture. went to fashion island (mall) that night. a SCHOOL NIGHT!!!
- slept in econ lecture wednesday morning.
- went to san diego wednesday night (somewhat spontaneous decision) and didn't bother to call parents until i got there. BAD BAD!!!
- went back home thursday morning and ditched econ discussion
- friday: ditching econ at this point and very likely will be ditching international studies discussion later in the afternoon

what has become of me. i've never ditched class in high school (senior ditch day doesn't count). i've never slept in class until i got to college. it seems as if i've fallen into an abyss of....

i am in SOOOO much pain!!! i couldn't sleep last night cause my toothache/jaw-ache was keeping me up. i didn't want to take too many painkillers, so i told myself "iris, just deal with the pain until 8 and then you can take some painkillers"

when i was still up at 5 in the morning, i gave in and took some advil.

i SERIOUSLY pray/hope/wish that my aching is due to my wisdom teeth. cause if not, then they're cavities... and my whole left jaw area is in pain (meaning all my molars in that area have been infected). the thought of getting root canals for the teeth in my whole left jaw is just not a pretty thought. . . . agghghg. i hope i can survive for another few days before i see the dentist.

UCI is officially the best school ever. we get to go to advanced screening for movies...FREE!!! and there's one almost every week. just yesterday i saw rendition starring jake gyllenhaal, reese witherspoon and meryl streep. i liked the roundabout filmography towards the end, but the plot was a little too predictable. i recommend renting it on DVD when it comes out; its not quite worth the 9 dollar ticket. next week, we're going to watch dan in real life starring steve carell. it's so super awesome that we get to watch the movie in advance and...for FREE. yay yay. no more expensive movie tickets for me!!! muhaahha.

5) making my way through the langson library without getting lost. it's the little things that make me happy :)
6) the prospects of going home this weekend to the arcadia homecoming game
7) opening my wallet to see money still inside. (i'm happy to see that i haven't been spending money like a madwoman...like some person i know...i hope you know who you are...)
8) shopping/walking around fashion island. it's so pretty there. love. love.
9) sleeping for only 15 minutes in my econ class today. hahaha. usually i sleep through the entire lecture. so sleeping for 15 minutes is an accomplishment. :)
10) eating relatively healtier. more salads. less junk food. replacement of choice: dried blueberries.

WE WENT KARAOKING LAST SATURDAY!!!! i didn't sing at all. at least not into the microphone. i was backup singing the whole time. but that's ok. it's better that i not make everyone's ears bleed.
so stacy, lillian and i CUED ~~afterwards~~ in the middle of the karaoke competition!! so much fun. i'm sad that we didn't get to cue in japan. the designs are not as pretty and are HELLA expensive here!! grrr.. grr...

yup. after all that fun, lillian's brother dropped me off.
riding in that car made me want an older brother even more than i had yearned for before. ergg....i'm pretty picky about it too. i don't want a brother who is a year or two older than me but maybe 4 or 5 years. then maybe he'd help me out with college and other stuff, ..like lillian's brother. :( *sad* *sad* i'm such a failure in life because i didn't have an older brother or sister to help me out.

the next day, i tagged along with tina back to irvine. we went to fashion island and shopped for a bit. i bought a really cute shirt...i ♥ it. i will wear and photograph for you guys to see some day!! :)

oh....rewind a bit.. last thurday i went clubbing with steph, tisha, and tisha's friend. it was okay. the club was really small. but i did have fun....i guess. the thing that was weird was that we didn't know what to do, so we just started to dance with each other. and i was kinda weirded out cause we were just "freaking" with one another and i didn't know if people thought we were lesbians or ...not. i mean, i did it at AX, but AX is different. hahah. . .
so yeah, i *danced* with some guys, but being the iris that i am, i TOTALLY didn't know how to freak/what to do.

so after dancing with some peeps, this is what i figured out....(1) i canNOT freak for beans, (2) i prefer to dance with someone who knows what he's doing. yeah....

so...no more partying (unless it's a house party) for me until i turn 18. that's a good thing. i need to focus on my studies.

I NEED ADVICE!!!

choice 1: i'm currenly declared as a business economics major. i also plan to minor in accounting.
the whole downside to this is that i have to take all these econ. crap classes. i'm not too keen on that. but...I WANT MY CPA DAMMIT!!!!

ok....

choice 2: i can continue my studies as a business econ major, most of the courses of which are the pre-requisites for business administration, and change my major to business admin. (they don't offer the major until fall of 2008). the upside is that i don't have to take all these econ classes. the downside is that i canNOT minor in accounting. i can always take classes that prepares me for the CPA examination, but i won't get "Minor in Accounting" inscribed on my diploma. and i'm scared that it'll have adverse long term effects; businesses or firms or whatnot WILL NOT hire me because i don't have that 'inscription' on my diploma. :(

gasp an update

so...college....

first week was a bit boring. welcome week, sadly, wasn't very welcoming. i met all of my hallmates but we don't really have "hall unity"; it's just the usual "hi"s and "hello"s when we see each other. i really envy my friend from another dorm, where everyone seems to be very close. *sad face* i wish we had that whole together-ness down in our hall.

but if i had to whittle it down to ONE thing that ABSOLUTELY bothers me is the amount of walking. my closest class is at least 10 minutes away; the furthest being 30 minutes. and because most of my lectures and discussions are at random parts of the day, i have to make my way from my dorm to each class several times. so that's like....FREAKING 10 bagillion hours of walking per day. ERGG.....and it's not like i need to lose any more fat. instead of getting the freshman 15, it'd be more like freshman -15 for me. i happy with my weight so i don't need to shed off any more.

anywhoos. i saw some cute guys there. the frat boys are really hot!!!! hahaha. and i walk by their booths that they set up for freshman recruitment everyday to class. *happy*

dorm food = not asian. LOL. i think i'm gonna get sick of it sooner or later.
college = VERY expensive. dorming costs about $10,000 per person a year (food included). i should've lived on campus village instead. a furnished place for a year (food not provided) is $4000-ish/ split between 4 roommates. so it's $1000 per person a year. AHGGG!!! that's 10% of the dorming fee!!!!

THE WAY OF THE INSOMNIAC!!!

i've developed quite the insomniac's way of life lately. but then again, it has been a useful tool in my conquest to finish all the necessary reading materials for AP english. so far, i've ONLY finished reading brave new world and the color purple. i will be starting the kite runner shortly after this post. *smiles* . and from what i've heard about the kite runner from _happy_as_rain_, i'm looking forward to reading the book. brave new world was quite a disappointment; i really DON'T like huxley's writing style. and after my ...uh... ghastly encounter with the bluest eye, black literature never quite attracted much of my interest. but, the color purple was a lot better than i expected it to be. it doesn't merit a spot on my list of favorite books, but it was -good- for a school required reading book.
i originally was going to read the fountainhead, but i didn't think that 700 pages-or-so of rush-reading would do me good. i actually want to grasp the concepts, even though most people don't consider ayn rand's "objectivism" to be a true philosophy (schiefer). oh well, i'll read it some other day. [some other day as in, after senior year :D]

so, now i feel obligated to update about my weekend at Nisei Week in J-town.
♠ i got up bright and early Sunday morning. mongbeane called saying she can't accompany us on the trip :(
♠ having not acquired a permit, much less a license, i bothered my dad into driving me to our meeting area at the front of the school
♠ i was the first one there
♠ our chauffeur, alex arrived a little later. but we still had to wait for the other members of our group.
♠ finally, lillian, tiffany and amy arrived [in that order] and we left for j-town
♠ car parked. walked around. went to kinokuniya. lillian bought her magazines. amy bought her YAOI. i wasn't sure if tiffany bought anything. alex bought a bunch of stuff. i bought two volumes of the NANA manga.
♠ then we went to the TOFU festival, where we had lots of yummy food. TOFU was served in the craziest ways possible. there was tofu ice cream. YUM!!!. MON-LAI YOU MISSED OUT!!!
♠ it was getting quite unbearable with the heat and all so we decided to leave around 3-ish [?]. and that's about it.

and NOW...to feed my insatiable need to make icons, no matter how crappy i am at making them...
