Greetings from the IHSA! It seems impossible that the 2025-26 school year is 2/3 of the way completed, and even more impossible that officials’ registration for the 2026-27 school year will begin in just about 6 weeks!
Our office wanted to take this opportunity to remind all officials that registration will occur through the Arbiter platform beginning next year. On May 1st, when the 2026-27 official registration begins, the only way to register and license is through Arbiter.
In the coming weeks, Arbiter will share a short video describing what the registration process will look like for those unfamiliar with their platform. Once that video is available, our office will share it with officials on the public side of [ihsa.org]. Much more to follow on this development.
Additionally, all mandatory requirements for obtaining an officiating license, including rules meetings, exams, concussion training, etc., will be completed through Arbiter. Doing so will provide assigners and IHSA member schools one location to use when checking on any official’s status next year.
Moving registration and completing requirements on Arbiter does NOT mean any assigner or IHSA member school who is making game assignments must begin using Arbiter next year. All games can continue to be assigned in the same manner they are now, and member schools will be receiving information in the coming weeks on how they can create an Arbiter account, if they don’t currently have one.
The official's registration process will be very similar to previous years, in terms of the questions asked and information gathered. Next year, the cost of a single license will increase $5 to $75, but the cost of each license after the first will only be $10/additional license. In other words, a two-sport official will pay $85 for the two licenses (an increase of $5 from this year), while a three-sport official will pay $95 for the three licenses, which is what that individual paid for the licenses this year.
