Trash Bunny

The ghost of a dead bunny passed by my way
and threw up every cigarette I didn’t throw away.
Tire marks scar her back from a life spent on the highway.
The ghost of a dead sea turtle swam by my way,
and we discussed what he’d eaten for lunch.
It was every plastic bag I had only used once.
I was wrong to think my footprints don’t follow me.
Now with everything collapsing, I can see
every imprint making its way back to me.
Stroll down North Shore Path trying to make you laugh
Poking fun at the rich upper class
My resolve: remain steadfast.
People in need of basic commodities are pushed out of the city
While the wealthy pretend their worth resides in accessories
But if you always take more than what you need,
You’ll never be happy.

How much space did I really need?
Further than either of us could see?
When I filled the space with concrete,
I found love came with company.
Staring down the things I believe in,
this time I’m getting even.
I’m starting now no repeating,
and I’m leading with I’m leaving.
Look for an exit while you recommit,
saw a chance and I went for it.
I fell asleep at the wheel somewhere in Connecticut.
I don’t have time for this.
Consistency is enticing, but something is missing.
Have we replaced the thrill of really living
with schemes and routines that are far less fulfilling?
Have you found your fill of me?
It’s okay if you don’t feel like responding.
I should have given you fair warning,
I don’t love intermittently.
I know you could love me from this distance,
you might not if we get too close.
So the conversations I chose
left us guessing why we’re taking it slow.
You think it’s a sign, leave the lights on until sunrise.
We still have to make up our minds,
what are we willing to let slide.

Stuck in KCMO, blame it on mid-March snow.
Albeit I’ll be in Tucson soon as I can find a number for a tow.
I bought an over-night greyhound ticket
just to wake up somewhere else.
She saw me rolling a smoke on the bus to Albuquerque
and passed me two loosies
she picked up at the corner store by LC’s.
We go to this one place on that one street
owned by her dad’s ex Carrie.
We both have a little dirt on our cheeks,
so we bathed in the industrial kitchen sink.
If it’s not too much for me to ask for a moment to myself,
I could really use one to call for some help.
I got distracted by the taxidermy on the shelf,
and named every pelt
I named one after me because he looked extra willy.
Put him in my bag when Carrie quit eyeing me.
Now he goes everywhere with me.
I’ve got a mid-September glow
that follows me everywhere I go.
What else do you really need to know.
We leave that one place on that one street
before Carrie can check her inventory.
Holding our tummies in search of something free to eat.
I lost all my money playing Cee-lo in the city.
Friends begging me to move back to Minnie
But I’m having too much fun in Kansas City.

All I See

Road trips in old whips, coffee stains on cold lips.
You’re incomparable and completely able,
not afraid to leave it all on the table.
You have the plans and the will;
you’ve also obtained the patience.
What I often lack is the proper language
to convince you the worlds yours for the taking.
Don’t change a thing you are who you’re supposed to be
Exactly the way you are right now.
Every moment on, you belong.
It won’t be long until you can see
you can be anything you want to be.
When you feel a lack of motivation,
trust in your strong dedication.
Trust in your beautiful imagination,
trust you can love through tough situations.
Lean on ambitions, don’t get held up on premonitions.
Like a decision in the form of a confession,
it’s about asking all the right questions.
I keep seeing beautiful character traits in you,
I can’t stop staring; your soul is all I see.
I keep listening to your songs on repeat,
I can’t stop telling everyone I meet.
I keep feelings close to my chest,
that’s where you’ve chosen to lay your head down to rest.
So I keep you close in a thankful heart.
I can’t stop smiling; you warm me even when we’re apart.
