Inter Miami CF History

Inter Miami CF partially originated when English footballer David Beckham became the first big-name international star to sign with MLS (with the LA Galaxy in 2007). As part of his signing deal, Beckham was given the option of purchasing an expansion team once his playing days were over, which he exercised in 2014. However, Inter Miami CF is not just the product of Beckham, but also a concerted effort by the Miami Beckham United Group to bring an MLS team back to South Florida following the short-lived Miami Fusion from 1997 to 2002.

In 2020, Inter Miami debuted on-field, but the club made another major splash in the middle of the 2023 season after signing decorated Argentine forward Lionel Messi. Despite missing MLS Cup contention, Miami claimed the 2023 Leagues Cup behind Messi’s tournament-best 10 goal performance. At the end of the 2024 regular season, Miami topped the Eastern Conference and won the Supporters’ Shield while Messi earned the league MVP.

Starting strong in early 2025, Inter Miami CF became the first MLS franchise to win a match in the FIFA Club World Cup, where the club ultimately played to the knockout stage. Once the 2025 MLS season kicked off, Miami advanced to the Leagues Cup final and MLS Cup, and Messi collected his first MLS Golden Boot with 29 goals. Miami won the 2025 MLS Cup on its home pitch against Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 3-1; Messi was awarded the MLS Cup Final MVP with two assists.

    Left 2 hrs early for game, cab ride was allegedly 22 minutes. I sat in Miami traffic for 3.5 hrs and wasn’t close enough to the stadium to make it. It was a total bummer to miss this amazing game and the experience of seeing Messi.

    It was a great experience the seat were amazing. Didn’t like how they didn’t come out through the tunnel but other than that it was great. Needed to make sure that more people that worked there knew where certain items were as well.

    Big experience both on and off the field! Entertaining game, beautiful Barca-like football and lots of goals ⚽️ The fans were loud all game and the club had a lot off entertainment around the game. Big fanzone before the game, singing before kickoff and DJ after the match. My son and I enjoyed every bit of it and will come back as soon as we can afford to 😄🇩🇰
