Classification of Cables"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The armoured cable is a common cable with an extra protective layer to keep it away from unwanted cut or damage.&nbsp; The armour increases cable life thus improves the performance, reliability, and safety of the cable core.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-armoured-cable\">Armoured Cable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The cable with an outside layer or layers of armour wired or tapes to provide tensile strength during the cable laying operation, and protection while resting underground. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Care should be taken that the cables shall not be bent to a radius less than the minimum specified by the manufacturer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-armour\">Armour<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Steel in the form of wires or tapes enforced to the outside of cables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the application of a single layer of <a href=\"https:\/\/instrumentationtools.com\/instrumentation-cables-armor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">armour<\/a> wire is called a Single armour cable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the application of two layers of armour wire is called armour with a double.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-armour-wire\">Armour Wire<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Zinc coated mild or high tensile steel wire or aluminium of different gauges for the protection of and also to provide tensile strength for the cables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-armour-tape\">Armour Tape<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Steel tape applied for the protection of cable intended for direct burial on land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-to-use-armoured-cable\">When to use Armoured Cable?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When transmitting power in harsh environments, cable protection is necessary for safe and reliable operation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are used primarily in industrial applications, often run in <a href=\"https:\/\/instrumentationtools.com\/types-of-cable-trays\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cable trays<\/a> and raceways. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are often not used in flexible applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-classification-of-armoured-cables\">Classification of Armoured Cables<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1336\" height=\"765\" src=\"https:\/\/instrumentationtools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Classification-of-Armoured-Cables.gif\" alt=\"Classification of Armoured Cables\" class=\"wp-image-52681\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The armoured cables can be categorized into<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Wire-Braid Armour<\/li><li>Steel Wire armoured cables,<\/li><li>Steel Tape armoured cable<\/li><li>Aluminum or aluminum alloy wire armoured cable.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1054\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/instrumentationtools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Armoured-cables.png\" alt=\"Armoured cables\" class=\"wp-image-52683\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-wire-braid-armoured-cable\">Wire-Braid Armoured Cable<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Wire braid armor is also known as basket-weave armour. It is used when light and flexible protection is needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wire braid is constructed much like a fibrous braid. The metal is knitted directly over the <a href=\"https:\/\/instrumentationtools.com\/types-of-cables\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cable<\/a> as the outer covering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Generally, the braid is made of galvanized steel, copper, bronze, or aluminium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-steel-wire-armoured-cable\">Steel Wire Armoured <strong>Cable<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>They are generally abbreviated as SWA cable (Steel Wire Armour).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SWA Cables is suitable for high drop areas and can withstand external mechanical forces and extensive tension. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cables with multiple cores use Steel wire armour. It withstands high pull loads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-steel-tape-armoured-cable\">Steel Tape Armoured Cable<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>They are often abbreviated as STA (Steel Tape armour).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>STA Cables are suitable for buried laying and can withstand external mechanical forces but cannot withstand large tensile forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-aluminum-wire-armoured-cable\">Aluminum Wire Armoured Cable<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The cables are generally abbreviated as AWA. Because of the non-magnetic nature of Aluminium, there would not be any induced currents in the armour due to the currents flowing in the main conductor.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aluminum Wire armour is used in single-core cable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aluminium Wire Armoured cables are used in <a href=\"https:\/\/instrumentationtools.com\/types-of-electrical-wiring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">electrical<\/a> power networks, underground installations, outdoor and indoor applications, as well as power and auxiliary control cables for cable ducts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cable-construction\">Cable Construction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Steel Wire Armoured cable construction<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1232\" height=\"619\" src=\"https:\/\/instrumentationtools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Cable-construction.png\" alt=\"Cable Construction\" class=\"wp-image-52684\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The structure of the SWA cable is broken down from the inside to the outside the conductor (usually copper conductor or aluminum conductor), the insulation (XLAPE or PVC) inner <a href=\"https:\/\/instrumentationtools.com\/instrument-cables-sheath-material\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sheath<\/a> (PVC) armour (wire or steel belt) outer sheath (PVC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Generally, the construction of an aluminum or steel wire armoured cable contains six parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The construction of our various types of armoured cables (US spelling armored cable).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-conductor\">Conductor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The conductor mainly acts as conductive, transmits power. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The copper conductor is good conductive, and the aluminum conductor is weaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-insulation\">Insulation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The insulation material is the cross-linked Polyethylene ( XLP or XLPE) which has a high insulation resistance (IR), high dielectric strength, and low dielectric constant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>XLPE or PVC-XLPE is very expensive, but it has better coated, great softness, PVC is low in price, and softer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It provides high-temperature resistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bedding\">Bedding<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a layer to create a protective barrier between the insulation and the armour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sheath\">Sheath<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheath offers a further level of protection to the constituent parts of the cable that are held together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sunlight emits ultra-violet radiation, may too soon degrade the materials in a cable sheath.
