ISF Research Projects Stream
Open Intakes
The Innovation & Science Fund (ISF) Research Projects Stream provides financial support to research projects advancing innovation in provincial priority areas and commitments outlined in the Saskatchewan Research Strategy.
Successful projects will be selected based on how well they meet the following objectives:
- Support high-impact research in Saskatchewan’s research priority areas.
- Drive high-quality outcomes that deliver economic benefits for Saskatchewan.
- Attract and retain top researchers at Saskatchewan’s post-secondary and research institutions.
Individual researchers cannot apply directly to this stream. Applications must be submitted through a post-secondary or research institution’s research or leadership office. Eligibility requirements are detailed in the Program Guide.

Funding Eligibility
Here’s what you need to apply.
Principal investigator must be hired at a Saskatchewan post-secondary or research institution and be at a post-doctoral level or above.
Maximum project timeline of three years.
Funding request does not exceed 40 per cent of eligible project costs up to a maximum of $1 million.
Matching funding is expected. Proposals without matching funding will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
The project must align with at least one of Saskatchewan’s research priority areas (i.e., agriculture, life sciences, energy and mining & critical minerals).
Intake Periods
Intake 1
- May 31: Deadline for submitting proposals
- June 15: Proposals sent to External Advisory Committee
- July 31: Target for proposal responses
Intake 2
- November 30: Deadline for submitting proposals
- December 15: Proposals sent to External Advisory Committee
- January 31: Target for proposal responses
