65 icons → I'm pretty sure most these icons weren't actually made in January and were just left overs from the previous month :P Most of them were Christmas exchange gifts and stuff like that so there's a bunch of live-action icons (which ugh, I'm no good at live action :C). I think I was starting to settle in a little into iconning and finding a 'style' for my animanga icons here (and turbo_rumble definitely helped)

22 icons → I'm pretty sure this was one of the periods of the year in which I was just stuck for inspiration. This meant that most my icons were just extract + base colour + random textures on top. The end results aren't necessarily bad but they're very....lukewarm? I'm not making much sense okay fine. Also made the icon which was my default for months. ~~This was also the period in which I was marathoning jdrama sooooo~~

F E B R U A R Y

32 icons → turbo_rumble!! The themes there are always so inspiring for me (I wished I had more time to participate ;A;). Half of my icons in this post still looks the same with a cut out, center crop and random texture at the back but I still kinda like them :P My unfinished (again) set for anime20in20 is here too. Evidently, I find it haaaaard to make 20 icons. There's a few icons from the unfinished round at vgbattle here too. I was so bummed out the round just kinda died because I was so excited and the themes/concept of the round was so great as well.

	33 icons → My first 20inspirations set! I was so determined to finish this set ahahaha which explains how rushed the ac set looks :P The Starry Sky art is really gorgeous so most of these are just crop/colour icons but I also (re-)discovered text textures and there's a few of those thrown in too ehehe. The rest of these icons were for 'about me' sets and are all kinda bleh idk. M A Y

30 icons → I think the biggest development of my iconning year was probably around here ahahaha, I was invited to join lanieveria!!~ Even though it was like in the middle of my exam period I was all asdkjfajsdf and yeah. My favourite icon I made this year is probably that 'fight to survive' one I did for their palette activity C: The rest of the icons are just a dump from the unfinished vg battle (I'm horrible at iconning regular vg images) and from various challenges.

The little hiatus I had really help me in getting back some of my muse and once my uni break started I started on a whole bunch of icons for anime20in20 and for the Christmas exchange at calendarsquares (which I haven't posted yet whoops). There was also the FMA battle (and I have another upcoming battle to post). Inspiration wise this has probably been one of the best months of the year for me, I'm trying out some new things, experimenting a little with my text and just really enjoying iconning again ahahaha

I don't think I could properly express how much I'm saddened by the closing of anime20in20. It's been such a integral part of the icon community (especially the animanga one) for me, even if I wasn't always able to participate like I wanted to (4 finished rounds, 2 unfinished). But all good things must come to an end and I'm incredibly glad that I'm able to close off the community in such a way. This community was the first place I ever modded at and it was my utmost pleasure and privilege to do so. Thank you and goodbye, anime20in20.

I've been trying to experiment a little more with my text lately (and there have been some hit and misses as you can probably tell) but it sure is good getting into photoshop and iconning again! That said though, it was probably good for me to have a break from PS for that little while. The rest of the icons are old ones from before my short hiatus~

Okay so I had made this icon for the Ice Cream Colour Palettes at lanieveria and when I was done with it, I was stuck with the urge to make a larger version of it :P A lot of what I did to the icon I transferred over to this tumblr graphic anyway.

So I started with the base colour which was #eee6b8. I pasted this texture (by innocent_lexys on it and stretched it out to fit my canvas (This is a terrible thing to do I know ;A; If there were any grainy/weird bits I would grab a brush and paint over it though). I put the layer on Soft Light (100% opacity) and because I wanted the gradient to be a little stronger, duplicated the layer and set it on 15%. I then put this texture on Soft Light followed by this and this on Screen. I then plonked an Auto Curves layer on and a Vibrance layer on +40. And that was it! I think the colouring of the graphic was the easiest part. Getting the text and Eren & their shadows to line up was a complete headache xD.

Uh so this icon was mostly me being lazy?? Like I opened the psd I have of it save and there's like 5 layers on this thing. SORRY DO YOU FEEL CHEATED NOW? okay okay I'll shut up and get on with it

This was the scan that I started with. The theme for this icon was graceful, so I cropped it to look like his hair was flowing the in the wind etc etc.

At icon size, the image is pretty dull and washed out and so I popped an Auto Curves layer and a Vibrance layer (at +85) on to deepen the colours. I wanted the colours to pop even more so I duplicated the base layer, Gaussian Blurred it and set it to Soft Light.

Then I used a black and white gradient diagonally from the top right corner (white) to the bottom left corner (black). I set this on Soft Light at 80%. I wanted to add a little bit of texture to the icon, so I added this by mm3butterfly at 50% Screen. I also wanted the colours to be a tad bit warmer so I added this texture (by ??? I think it's drankmywar but I can't seem to find it in my texture folder :C) on at 50% Soft Light. Aaaaaand that's it! I TOLD YOU I WAS LAZY WITH THIS ICON.

So the lovely poisonfield asked me for a tutorial at the Ask the Maker Activity at icon_talk. I THINK I STILL OWE SOMEONE SOMETHING FROM LAST TIME?? I'M SO SORRRRY. I'll try to get on it ;A;

With this icon here, I started with this scan. This icon was for anime20in20 and so I knew I had to use the font Pea Lisa in it.

I extracted Iri out of the scan and popped it into a 100x100 canvas on Photoshop and scaled her down (I don't remember the exact measurements sorry ;A;). She's uh really washed out in the scan (because she's supposed to be glowing I think but that didn't translate well) so I added an Auto Curves layer on 50% opacity and a Vibrance layer at 100%. She looks better now :3 I eyedropper-ed a soft yellow colour out of her dress and used it as the background colour.

There are also bits of her hair which are flying up which just ended up looking pixelated on an icon so I took a soft brush and masked over it. I also wanted her to be surrounded by a little more glow so I duplicated the layer, placed it underneath the current character layer and then Gaussian Blur-ed it. I wanted a bit more though, so I took a soft brush and painted a white strip along the outline of her hair. This layer was placed on Normal at 40%. I then took a larger brush and painted along the same outline. This layer I set to Soft Light at 100%.

I then added another Vibrance layer and an Auto Curves layer (at 50% opacity) to the icon. Now I had to add the text/font in. I eyedropper-ed a nice blue colour from her dress and centered the text (looking back at it....this icon was probably not suited for text. At least probably not in that position urgh). The text was a little sharp so I duplicated the layer and Gaussian Blur-ed it, putting it on 55% opacity.

Here are two tutorials for absolutelybatty & aeriiths at the Ask the Maker activity at icon_talk. Just a little warning I know nothing of what I'm doing and I have no clue. I am also ramble-y and weird and I'M SORRY.

Okay so I started with extracting Yukio from the original image. This icon was for calendarsquares so I knew from the start that I had to use a plum colour for my base.

I used an Auto Curves layer (with the background invisible) to bring out the colours in the scan a little more. Then I started adding textures to the background to make it more interesting. I added these four textures (by midnight_road x3 & pamkips) set on soft light/screen 60%.

This part of my icon making process is mainly add random textures on soft light or screen and see what happens. At the moment I am addicted to that first and last texture and they show up on practically everything that I make ~~I am not even joking when I say this ;A;~~
I then decided there still wasn't enough to the icon so I added text in the background. I used Roadway 4pt in a pale yellow colour to contrast with the purple. Roadway and Placard are basically my go to fonts whenever I want to add text to my icons xD.

The text was a little too sharp so I duplicated the layer and gaussian blurred it and then set it to 75%. I then pasted a target texture on top of it because Yukio is holding a gun (y e p I know)

Then I added a Vibrance layer to it and called it a day C:

So uhh this icon was for the crazy colours challenge at elite_no1 and so I took this scan and extracted it. I had planned to block it in blue and red basically because of the colours in the original scan.

I grabbed a red off the scan and set it as the background colour and then started piling the textures on again ~~I told you I have no idea what I'm doing~~. With this icon I used these textures on soft light and this on screen ~~I told you I abuse these textures~~

I then added a curves layer and a vibrance layer on top of it.

Then I repeated the same steps onto a blue background I picked off the original scan.

I then used these two (resized it down approx. 75%) and arranged it onto a new 100x100 canvas - I just move them around until I'm satisfied.

I then decided it need to be even more bright ~~and headache-inducing~~ and duplicated/merged the layers and the gaussian blurred it and set it to soft light (50%) and screen (15%). Added another vibrance layer because I like to abuse the hell out of it.
