Quote Challenge – Day 3.

The blogger over at Just A Small Town Girl nominated me for a quote challenge recently. Go check her blog out, y’all!

Challenge’s rules:

  1. Post on three consecutive days.
  2. You can pick one or three quotes per day.
  3. Challenge three different bloggers per day.

Today’s quotes come from none other than the lady who not only weaved magic through the childhood of most of us but probably made Quidditch the world’s most popular sport! An imagination like hers would be a priceless possession indeed. Here’s some of the best from Joanne Kathleen Rowling :

“The truth. It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and must therefore be treated with great caution.”

“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all, in which case you have failed by default.”

“I sometimes have a tendency to walk on the dark side.” Don’t we all have that tendency?

Have you heard of the Daily Odd Compliments? I am not sure if they quite fall in the category of quotes, but these are some of the best ones I came across recently :

Quote Challenge – Day 1.

tumblr_ldiyzuFOwl1qa2q59o1_1280

My favourite kind of challenge is here once again!

The blogger over at Just A Small Town Girl nominated me this time. Giving her blog a shout out, y’all!

Challenge’s rules:

  1. Post on three consecutive days.
  2. You can pick one or three quotes per day.
  3. Challenge three different bloggers per day.

Today’s post is dedicated to John Green, the author who’s currently inspiring me the most and hopefully will continue to do so for a very long time.

“That’s always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people want to be around someone because they’re pretty. It’s like picking your breakfast cereals based on color instead of taste.”

“My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations.”

“The venn diagram of boys who don’t like smart girls and boys you don’t wanna date is a circle.”

And now let it sink how awesome he is!

As they say in John’s hometown, Don’t Forget To Be Awesome! ❤

Graciously Yours!

P.S. : Anyone who felt that John Green’s words touched their heart has to participate! Please. Pretty please?

The Poetry of Life.

She awoke to the Tyndall effect the rays from the nearest star made in her small room. She could see the dust particles dancing around each other. She wondered how much of it was cosmic. She smiled.

On her way to work, she bought more than a couple of roses from the young boy at the crossing. The water drops shone like precious stones on the petals. She smiled.

She typed out the report she was to submit. As her fingers moved across the keyboard, the clicks rhythmically buzzed in her ears.  She thought of the electrons zigzagging through the silicon jungle within her laptop. She smiled.

She passed by a temple in the evening. She had never ventured into one. Yet, the smell of the incense sticks was her favourite. She smiled.

She popped corn kernels for a late night movie. The oil simmered and the kernels flowered with the pop, clonking against the lid. She smiled.

“She smiles easily,” they said.

Because. “Every atom has a poetry,” she thought.

Six Word Story #10.

Here’s another six word story coming after a long while!

download

“Intelligence? Looks? Both?” “None. Money.” Sigh.

Graciously Yours!

The illusion of reality.

“Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one” ~ Albert Einstein.
Are you literate? Well, if you’re reading this, of course you are. But are you educated? That’s a different ball game altogether now.

Are you a thinker? Or do you hoard information from all possible sources but don’t form an opinion from scratch?

Do you believe everything you come across on the internet? Or do you try to verify the sources before you share anything with others?

So, a friend does not scroll through Facebook each day. But when she does, she comes across something like this.

Image1

Probably that is why she doesn’t scroll through Facebook every day.

Now you may just read this, make a joke or two, and toss it out of the window. And that is where the fault lies. Where we don’t really pay attention to the negativity that is seeping into us each moment, each hour, each day through posts like these. Each day, you might not have changed but at the end of a lot of days, well, you’ve changed enough to not be able to turn back!

India and Pakistan have been at war for more than six decades now. A cold, silent, unrelenting war which has affected us all so badly that it is unimaginable how we ever lived together peacefully. And, for however far my sight stretches, I don’t see this getting resolved soon – for reasons as apolitical as political. But this? It doesn’t even make sense.

Yes, Pakistan is known to be involved with terrorism. And the country’s government has made a fair amount of hullabaloo trying to deny things so plain and simple that the whole world can see through their lies now. But why on Earth would you define all Pakistanis as terrorists? And all Indians as hardworking, entrepreneurial, and diligent people? I know we have a fair share of Indians, who if born in the Middle Ages were worthy of being guillotined. (And before you start hating me, that’s the case with every nation!) Democracy saved such Indians.

Ignorant people who think defining Lashkar, Taliban, ISIS simply by calling them products of Pakistan (and surprisingly, corporate products of Pakistan) are not helping other ignorant people in understanding the real depths of the matter. Did you ever think why Lashkar or ISIS came up in the first place? Did you ever think how so many people are being brainwashed into joining ISIS or worse still, who’s funding them? Why aren’t all the ‘powerful, developed nations’ of the world coming together to bring development to the under-developed, terror struck, ravaged and assaulted countries? You think they don’t have the resources to do it? Or is it the drive? Did you ever think about the lives of all those Pakistanis who are in abject poverty and are abused not only by people of their own country but also the entire world? Did you ever think about all those Muslims, who by choice or birth, follow Islam but have never even hit their siblings? Have you ever thought of that man who grows a beard because he likes it but is stared down upon at security checks? All of this requires thinking. Where’s the fun in that, right?

Graciously Yours!

*If you think, this post is meant to incite hatred against any country, religion, community or even person, well the whole point of the post is lost on you. I’d probably call you literate then. Just sayin’!

**I have no problem with people using social media. And neither with people bashing terrorists for the wrong they’re doing. What I have a problem is with sharing posts without complete understanding of the situation and spreading hatred without even being aware of it. Every action we take has a consequence, however small your reach may be or however inconsequential the result may be. But somewhere, if not in someone else, in you something changes. Would you rather want that change to be positive or negative?

Edit : In other news from around the net, ISIS got trolled by Muslims around the world when it threatened USA and asked all fellow Muslims to show the world that they support ISIS’s cause. Check it out here! Thumbs up to those who showed ISIS their true place.

Of bad singers and good ad campaigns.

The laws of Calcutta seem beyond my grasp at times. It’s almost midnight and there’s a live musical performance going on right behind my place for no reason whatsoever! At least, there’s no festival I am aware of. Christmas doesn’t call for such celebration and Durga Puja is a good ten months away!

Singers have been shouting into the microphones, speakers have been blaring, peace is being held hostage for the past five hours. At least. Why am I so irritated? Because good songs and better singers are welcome at such shows. But when the singers sound like they have bullfrogs bellowing inside of them and the noise they’re creating is on the higher side of the allowed decibel level, sleep is tossed out of the window (panes of which are vibrating!) and the post which is published is probably the tenth draft of the fourth idea which struck me while I was trying to clamp my ears with cotton, mufflers and pillows.

Distracting myself to write this post and I end up writing about what I am supposed to distract myself from! Silly me.

So you think diamonds are a girl’s best friend? And that if your fiance, husband or even boyfriend doesn’t gift you diamonds, his love for you isn’t forever? (Because diamonds last forever – forgive the analogy. All that noise is slowing me down.)

Well, congratulations! You have been duped by a very long continuing and massively successful advertising campaign started around the mid 1900’s to ensure the sudden bounty of diamonds being mined do not lose out on their previously high prices! The advertising campaign emphasized on the non-existent necessity of diamonds to be an intricate part of the holy matrimony! And thus began the race to buy diamonds, the end line of which is far from visible even today.

This reminds me of another advertising campaign which saved an entire brand from getting ruined. The Nestle India Maggi campaign! An offshoot video that I found is worth the time and smile. Specially for those who love both Maggi and Bollywood.

Graciously Yours!

P.S. : In case reading this post will result in future savings in your bank account, don’t forget to send me a thank you note! 😉 You’d make my day.

Wheeling towards life.

20151215055419

“You see that man down there who’s cycling?” said the Creator to the little baby beside Him.

The soon-to-be-born gurgled, “Yes” in baby lingo.

Soon, even his mother would understand it as well as God did.

“That cyclist doesn’t have ambitions. He hasn’t made plans on how he wants to spend his next five years. He saves much less than he spends. He helps his neighbor, an old lady, with rations every month. He gives kids, he doesn’t know, candies to eat. The world will tell you it is wrong to be him. They will tell you to think about yourself. They will mock you if you don’t plan. They will chide you for being ambition-less.”

The baby looked up at the peaceful soul beside him. He looked puzzled. Saliva dripped from the corners of his parted lips.

Chuckling, God took the baby in His lap, wiped the drool and continued, “I want you to be like him. I want you to live one day at a time, one moment at a time. I want you to dream but I don’t want you to become so blind with ambition that you forget why exactly you were living. I want you to respect the beauty of my creations and find your strengths, hopes and solace in them. I want you to always believe in yourself and in humanity. I want you to appreciate life much more than fear death.”

“Will it be easy?” the baby asked, looking down at so many unlike the cyclist.

“No, it won’t. And when it isn’t, remember that God did not bring you this far to abandon you.”

And saying so, He let go of the baby, whose head was now visible to the doctor as the mother screamed in pain.

Graciously Yours!

P.S.: What according to you is life?

Project For Awesome 2015.

p4a_sm_gen_1

Have you heard of the Project for Awesome? If you haven’t, it’s time to brace yourself for a dash of awesome!

Project for Awesome (P4A) is a community-driven charitable movement organised, since 2007, by some of the world’s online content creators (the ones running those fancy YouTube channels which educate you, make you think and are proof that empathy isn’t dead) to raise donations for various charities, including UNHCR and Save The Children. They encourage people to upload videos supporting the charity they believe in and the ones voted for as best are added on to the list of charities which will benefit from P4A.

One of the fun things they’re doing is running a 48 hour live stream, where they’re constantly encouraging people to donate, announcing random on-the-spot perks for donors and discussions ranging from the refugee crisis to live football commentary and dubious college advice! It may involve a lot of peanut butter, sharpies and whipped cream too. You have to see it to believe it! 😉

The 48 hour live stream has people like John Green – author of Looking for Alaska, The Fault in our Stars, Paper Towns, et al., vlogger, host of Mental Floss and Crash Course, Hank Green – it’s difficult to explain what he actually does, because he is an entrepreneur, musician, and vlogger, creator of VidCon, and hosts Crash Course, SciShow, SciShow Space, hankschannel and much more, Katherine Green, Michael Aranda and a lot of others whom I don’t recognize but I am sure are all awesome people.

This isn’t a sponsored post but rather a shout out for the brilliant (voluntary) work they are all doing. Even the packaging and shipping of perks to the donors is being done by volunteers.

To donate or not is your choice but I can ensure you it’ll be a lot of fun to go on to the livestream and simply check out the wonderful work they are doing, which is better explained here.

And as they say in John’s home town, Don’t Forget To Be Awesome (DFTBA)!

Graciously Yours!

P.S. : At the time of this post going online, Project For Awesome 2015 has raised $562,891 which when matched by donations from Google and the Green Brothers, amount to a whopping $1,346,611!

Green brothers and team, you’ve shown me the power of individuals and social media! Thank you.

Hurry over! Only 9 hours, some minutes left before the project ends.

The horror of it.

He stared into nothingness,

Loving the light more than the dark,

Heaving breaths and sweltering palms,

He rubbed his back against the bark.

b890402143c84245f628f3be9a190d41

He saw headlights approaching,

Out came he – dressed as a towering bear,

All he wanted was money,

The realtors wanted the fear.
