I find it fascinating that several people serve on the boards of not two, but THREE of the most powerful companies in the world. <!--more-->As a reminder:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A board of directors is a body of elected or appointed members who jointly oversee the activities of a company or organization.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dow_Jones_Industrial_Average\" target=\"_blank\">Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a> is a stock market index that shows how 30 large publicly owned companies based in the United States have traded during a standard trading session in the stock market.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Design<br \/>\n<\/strong>Companies, represented by their logos, are connected by common board members (yellow circles). Members who serve on only one board are not shown. I also highlighted company CEOs and board member genders.<\/p>\n<p>My first draft looked at all Fortune 100 companies, but that\u00a0network diagram was so complex that it was difficult to gain any \u00a0insight beyond that the higher echelons of big business is incredibly well connected. I think a complete <a href=\"http:\/\/www.infowetrust.com\/data-adventures\/\">data adventure<\/a> might look back across history and also mix in other positions\u00a0of power such as \u00a0major university boards and important\u00a0government political appointees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Data Provenance<br \/>\n<\/strong>Data is from Bloomberg research, accessed June 2015.
