ARGHHHH I WAS GONNA POST THESE A YEAR AGO, RIGHT AFTER ROCKNRUMBLE ENDED SO I COULD POST ALL MY ICONTEST ICONS IN ONE POST BUT I NEVER DID! Damn. But look at how many icons added up lol, even though it was only during the month of August and beginning of September.
Also, hello everyone, I am back for the month of August to do some icon action.

Notes:
○ I love shoujo_battle rounds every year, and I was glad that I was around for yet another round! For me it was something that marked the summer, so I was excited when inquisitory put up sign ups. Still secretly waiting for round eight this summer lol...
○ I signed up as Ayumi Yamada from Honey & Clover! One of my favorite characters.
○ Round seven was casino based and it was fun and creative.
○ The first challenge was to make a "card" like from a deck (ace/jack/queen/king/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10) and since I wanted some bonus points I went and put a suit in it (diamond) made it predominantly red, and ended up with #1 with Sawako. Got loooots of negative crits on the fact that it didn't fit very well, but honestly I had a lot of fun with it and did a lot of queen action with it lol by adding a crown too. I am probably the only person that likes this icon lol. I went out of the box and had a great time! (#70-72 look pretty similar since I made them around the same time and felt inspired lol).
○ The second challenge had to do with slot machines, and I went for the gold bars and fruit guidlines which called for the use of a light texture with a golden part and using bright colors. I don't even know what I was tryna do, but I ended up making #2 with this and it looked a lot cooler when I did something similar in #109 lol so I'm a bit disappointed but it was fun at the time! I also made #3 for the bonus by using lyrics from "Slow Motion" and I am content with this result since it's Q. Lol.
○ The third challenge was a roulette, and we had to use some roulette lingo in our icon. I ended up using "en plein" which means Straight Up Bet because I thought it fit Sawako and Kazehaya's relationship? Lollll I don't even know... but since I was being a whore for points this round, I also tried my best to incorporate the image provided and this icon is a messsssss. I still don't like it. Lol. I made #4 for this challenge. What an abomination lol.
○ The fourth and final challenge was blackjack and it was basically making a set of either two/three icons that are related to chance and are connected somehow. Bonus points for connecting them to any of the previous themes and making the third icon. I was being a whore for points still, so I made #5-7 for this challenge. I wemt suuuper loose again and connected them via all being lyrics from songs with "Roulette" in the title. #5 used lyrics from "Russian Roulette" by Kiss, #6 was from "Roulette" by Bruce Springsteen, and #7 was from "Russian Roulette" by Ice MC.
○ I don't like my typography action in these icons, lol besides #7 which I still like. I remember I did spend quite a bit of time with these though, especially finding lyrics and then images that seemingly fit them, kinda. I'm not even sure if #6 makes any sense, but I thought it did at the time lol.
○ All in all it was a fun round and I enjoy shoujo-battle every summer.

Notes:
○ rocknrumble round one! I was very interested in the concept of a text-based rumble, since I REEEEEALLLY need to improve my typography since lol I'm horrible at it and I avoid using it all the time since I have no idea how to do it right, ever. The themes went beyond "use three or more consecutive lyrics from the provided song" which every other challenge always does with text based challenges, so it was a lot of fun. Also, astrokittie was running the show so I knew the themes were gonna be awesome!
○ I signed up as Capell from Infinite Undiscovery, one of my favorite games/characters.
○ The first challenge was "Music is the Victim" by Scissor Sisters. We just needed to use three consecutive lyrics. Bonus points for using the lyrics that were bolded, and being a points whore I went for one of them (rise up from the dead and take up to the sky). I ended up with #12 using this image of Capell and Aya from Infinite Undiscovery, with Capell looking up and Aya looking down, so I found the text pretty relevant for once. Lol. I actually really like the result, lol and I did some ~lazy eraser tool action with the background pretty sure, since I don't recall strenuously extracting this.
○ The second challenge was to use lyrics from the song "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" by The Darkness while arranging the text in a geometric shape. It was ok to do outlines of characters as well, so I did that after taking a look at this tutorial. This challenge was fun, and I ended up with #13 using this image of Sigmund from Infinite Undiscovery and I chose the text "'til the sun goes down" even though I used until instead.
○ The third challenge was to use one line of Gaulish from the lyrics of "Slanias Song" by Eluveitie. Bonus points for featuring a subject with armor or military uniform, and using both the Gaulish AND English translation in the icon. I did the bonus, and had trouble adding some text to the image while making it look natural and it turned out that I submitted disaster #14 (using this image of Sigmund</a>) where I should have used #20 or one without the English translation since it looks awkward as hell. I liked the rest of the icon though lol so I guess it wasn't the worse thing possible.
○ The fourth challenge was to have two characters in the icon and not use the lyrics "people are people" from the song by Depeche Mode. I ended up using "I have never even met you" and knew the perfect image to go with it! Sounds crazy just by looking at the image, but in context with the story of the game, it is when Aya and Capell first meet, and Capell is suffering from a mistaken identity of a hero that has been locked up, in which Aya is going out to save him, thinking he is the liberator, Sigmund. Capell questions her for saving him because they have never met before, even though she insists that he is Sigmund because they look strikingly similar. ANYWHO, ONTO THE ICON. I decided to extract the image, use a peaceful fieldish background from Getty Images instead of the jail cell that it originally was. I have to say, making this icon was a little difficult but it was very fun and I love the result! It is my favorite from the round, and I ended up with #15.
○ The fifth and final challenge was to use the lyrics from "Loser" by Beck. Bonus for hiding a jar of Cheese Whiz in the icon, so I did. Can you find it in #16? So I don't really love this icon at all, and I'm pretty sure I didn't like it at the time either. I extracted it, used some boring lyrics and yet again it was in context with the game sorta but I didn't have any great ideas for this challenge since I don't really make funny icons...
○ Was a very fun rumble and I'm sorry I missed round two. I really think I improved with my typography after this round, so thank you very much to astrokittie for all the awesome challenges.

○ I actually signed up for this round a LOOOOONG time ago, but I never completed the claim until last year (when I was gonna post it...). The icons were due May 23, 2010 lol and I finished them in like July or August of 2011 lol. Go me. Instead of signing up for more 20in20s I decided I would go back and complete all my unfinished claims (lol yep sadly there's more) since I was the douchebag that decided to sign up for many and not complete them. Lol. I don't do it anymore, don't worry.
○ 24, brown You might remember #24 from this post lol when I first did it back when the challenge was still going, but I gave up and just posted it since I thought I would never complete it. Yeah that icon is weird with that random-ass light texture on the right side, I don't even know what I was thinking.
○ 25, help I went with an image of Hiromi looking helpless, took two images and lumped them together. I think she was looking at a computer or something lol in the anime at the time. I think I did some crazy coloring with it since it's an anime screencap and all, and I kinda suck with using those lol.
○ 26, negative yeah I have no idea what I was tryna do with this icon, just that it's a bottom center crop of Aiko.
○ 27, noise I really like this one actually since I've never used that texture before lol. It actually works too, at least to me lol. Shinichiro looks fkn pissed and then I added that weird line texture thing to make it look like an irritating sound thing lol. I also didn't fk up the coloring, yip yip!
○ 28, positive Using an image of Hiromi in one of Shinichiro's picture book drawing adventure/imaginations. Pretty pretty pictures.
○ 29, purple another image during Shinichiro's pictue book drawing adventure/imaginations.
○ 30, sacrifice Hello, the title of the series! Premise of the story, Noe Isurugi sacrificing her tears!! This was another one of Shinichiro's picture book drawing adventure/imaginations, where he says "I always thought of her crying" or something and it was about Hiromi. Not a spoiler since it's episode one stuff lol. My favorite icon from the set since it's sooooo colorful and the image is so pretty ot begin with. I'm just glad I didn't fk it up afterall.
○ 31, scary yeah it's Shinichiro making an epic disgusted face and that's it lol.
○ 32, silence it's just Noe looking Q lol...
○ 33, silly Miyokichi is like the series' clown, the funny guy, ya know... like Sunohara in CLANNAD, Satoshi in Hyouka, Sazh in FFXIII, Morita in H&C, yeah I can't think of great/popular examples. Anywho he's a silly guy and of course he makes silly faces.
○ set theme: close crop well I can't see how this theme can be fun or creative since it is a cartoon comm, so every other crop is a close crop anyway... I liked the colorings I did with Aiko though since I peaked a style lol for her in #35, #40, and #42
○ artist's choice yeah so I always go lazy with these since they're usually my last five icons, and just use some random pretty images and call it a day without tryna match them lol.
○ I think I was going to use #45-46 possibly for sacrifice but then I found the tear image instead lol.

Notes:
○ Another incomplete claim that I was going back to finish business for, lol. Was supposed to be done July 11, 2010 but I finished about 3/4 last year and did the last five the other day (the only new icons in this icon post lol, don't judge me since I was still feeling anxious about posting for the first time in a yearish).
○ 49, double For some reason I really like this icon. It isn't super complex or anything, but I found it fun to do something a little different texture wise and image wise.
○ 50, death It's an image of Takemoto laying down during a rainfall, but he also looks a bit like in a pool of blood to me lol so I tried to make the icon a little darker and added that black textureness to emphasize on that.
○ 51, ground Hagu is laying on the ground, yeah that's it. This icon is pretty gross since I didn't have anything special for the theme going, I did some random texture action and called it a day.
○ 52, no background I like this one quite a bit since it's simple and I didn't use any textures. Goes back to my older, simple style I had back in the day.
○ 53, sepia Thankfully I am doing this as self satisfaction so I am able to bend the theme to my will, such as making this theme just yellowy/orangy and not sepia lol.
○ 54, quote Might sound weird, but I used to write down quotes from anime/manga if there were any that interested me, so I looked through my notebook full of them since I had a whole section on H&C and came up with "Will the day come when it will all simply vanish? This pain in my heart, too?" from volume 2 chapter 15. Ayu is referring to her unrequited feelings, and how it will progress. I love her, omggg she's so relateable.
○ 55, LOL another theme I cheated with, since I don't do funny icons I just chose an image of the cast being ridiculous, lol at Morita in the background, silhouetted.
○ 56, night pretty image of Hagu drifting in water at night!
○ 57, half I really like how this one turned out! The background was blank, and I did some crazy coloring. Still lovin' it.
○ 58, silly yeah so another silly theme, and I went with Hagu looking Q all dressed up like that.
○ set theme: chibi I cheated even more with this set theme. I think this is the original reason why I just dropped the claim since I hate iconing chibi images, and there aren't really any official images of them being chibi anyway so I just went with Hagu since she is kawaii and kinda chibi looking lol. Lazy set though.
○ artist's choice this is the only part of the icon post that is showcasing my recent stuff lol, and I wouldn't say I'm completely proud of it lol. I llike #64 but that is it (didn't extract but did some low opacity eraser tool action instead lol, sorry Eri). The rest are pretty much failed operations. #68 looks like it had the potential to be great but I just fked it up somehow lol so let's not talk about it.

○ #74 got mod's choice at manga_character week 72, Anise Yamamoto. One of those rare instances that you'll find me iconing a fandom that I'm not into. Lol.
○ #82 got mod's choice at bleach_icontest week 344, hush. I was quite proud of this icon and did some crazy out of the box action with the textures, since it's not really an image you can color a lot considering it's mostly black and white anyway. I had been wanting to icon it ever since I saw it on the cover of Bleach volume 40 since Ulquiorra is one of my favorite characters. Lol where did I even find the idea to do this, I don't even know.
○ #87 got first place at clamp_icontest week 331, red. Yes I get placings that aren't mod's choice, lol.
○ #88 got third place at dgray_icontest week 81, Road Camelot.
○ #94 got mod's choice at ff_awards week 328, head shot.
○ #97 got third place at fmadesignawards week 169, Elric Family. That was their last week, crycry.
○ #100-103 I made some random-ass Glee icons. I actually like #100 but of course the atrocious #103 got the placement of mod's choice lol like always at dianna_stills week 47, Glee Live.
○ #104 got third place at game_abc week C.
○ #107 I did some crazy texture action here, lol and I think I saw someone do a similar icon, probably pamparumpum but I couldn't find the icon... and I was inspired to make that one but I don't know. Lol. Maybe I made that up in my mind.
○ #112-118 were made for erinae because she wanted some icons of Petshop of Horrors so I made some and the only decent ones are #113 and #117 lol. Sorry Eri, tried my best lol and the artwork isn't something I'm used to.
○ #120-132 Tokyo Mew Mew! Lol so, this was the series that got me into anime/manga and the internets, and even graphics. It was the starting point for me lol... but about #120-127. That was an image I requested from people all the time. I literally made this same request multiple times just for people to icon each of the character's in the image. Turns out a lot had already attempted the image (it was a TMM forum so not too surprising) and just sent me the icon lol. That was back in 2006. Then I was thinking about it (last year) and talking it over with a friend from ~that era and I realized I never made my own versions of it. Lol. So I tried my hand at it as well, and damn that image was low quality and I searched for higher quality ones but to no avail. It was a lot of fun though, and it was very nostalgic lol.
○ #133 was a remake of an icon I did at the end of 2007 when I had thought I ~peaked in the icon world, lol. Boy was I wrong. I still gots a way to go. So what I did was I went back to the .psd and tweaked it enough to get this result. I felt like the icon from 2007 still had the potential to be pretty, even though it was contrasted as fk lol but luckily I keep all my .psds so I just went back to it. I should dedicate a post to stuff like that. Wow. It was a lot of fun.

○ Eri and I did some beautiful collabs if I do say so myself. She is soooo wonderful, and it was great collabing!! We used 6 images and got 26 different icons, wow, just wow. I would never be able to do that for fun by myself.
○ The rundown is that usually Eri did the extracting and then we both sent each other some background/texture action and we had many results. We critiqued the colorings until we both found it right and BAM we did it, lol.

Notes:
○ Found this via tentacleness when regis completed her claim at lightning speed. Luckily, sign ups were still up regardless of the themes having been up as well |D signed up for Death Note after ~much thought. OK I was just reading the manga like the day before I found sign ups so I was a bit excited and hyped.
○ Was watching the timezone like a hawk, since I had not started this claim until a couple days ago and I made about 10 icons today to finish. Too much, especially since the themes were challenging! /go me for procrastinating during summer break.
○ 01, complimentary colors I was originally going to go for black/white as complimentary colors, but in the end I ended up with orange/blue which is fine since the result is a bit better than I expected.
○ 02, face to the side LAZY ICON. I thought this theme was a bit too specific to leave room for any creativity tbqh since it was asking for negative space and a close crop. I was thinking of using an actual background instead of the solid black there, but I thought it wouldn't be negative space anymore if I did that.
○ 03, face in face STRUGGLED LIKE A MOFO. I had to extract both images and now I have no idea what happened. I ended up with Light's head growing out of Ryuk lol. The result isn't godawful imo but I believe this theme was quite challenging as a mofo. BLENDING IS HARD, especially since you have to do something like this where you have to put a face in a face. I originally was thinking of making Ryuk a silhouette of some sort but I realized I had no idea how to do that. I was also in a rush to finish these so I really didn't want to take extra time to do like the third icon out of this set to figure out how to do so.
○ 04, extreme simplicity Believe it or not, I love this icon and doing simple icons (lol I run an icontest that is exactly that). I now realize that I should have done an icon for theme 2 that had a white background instead, since it's easier and more fun to work with even if left blank. DAMMIT.
○ 05, faceless The easiest theme of all, almost. It was hard to find a Death Note image that had, well, interesting bodies for me to crop lol. I ended up with Misa and her heart image thing. I like this one a lot for unknown reasons.
○ 06, support Near and Mello are a support to each other?! Even though Mello doesn't like to admit it.
○ 07, grunge Probably my favorite icon from the whole set. I don't know what it is about it, but I really like the result. Possibly because I have always liked grunge icons and making them (used to do grunge icons more a couple of years ago). It was a job well done imo; having extracted it and added all those textures like a boss. |D
○ 08, chosen Lol I don't even know what to say about this one. I also liked paper textures back in the day so I thought about using one here.
○ 09, bold I like this one a bit, too. God knows why. Because it's so simple?
○ 10, perfect I liked this one at first, but now I am starting to think it's just one hot mess.
○ set theme: Two Steps From Hell instrumental music. I took inspiration from Heart of Courage and it sounded a bit racy and serious. I thought of using characters from the second half of the series to represent it. Lol I make no sense. Anyway, 11 and 15 are my favorites from this category just because. No, it is not because I like Near, in fact, if anything, I don't like him lol. These icons turned out a lot better than I expected.
○ artist's choice Light textures galore. These were actually made back in January lol but I have never posted them before and they were never for any icontest (made for fun whoop whoop, don't see me doing that too often anymore lol).
○ 21 was an entry for simple_icontest but for some reason I never posted it. Probably had meant to post it awhile ago but it was left behind.

Notes:
○ I was ecstatic when I made the cut this time. I usually miss it, since sign ups go out in a day (I was staying up late when I saw the sign ups go up 8D) but then was a bit frustrated when they announced solo20in20 because I would have had a better time with those. Since I do one character icons usually. 8/ but I had signed up for too many 20in20s by the time this was up so... yeah can't stress myself lol with icons.
○ Doing these icons, I reread some parts of the story of what I had at home, and remembered how crazy this series was.
○ Sort of reverted back to my old style of using light textures frequently (Is this good or bad? D8 I love them and all, but I might abuse them...)
○ Was a pain extracting any of these, only because it took long. These were definitely a lot easier to extract than my FFXIII set. I don't think I've extracted line art in a long time, forgot how it felt |D
○ 01, hogwarts I was not interested in this theme at all, since I'm not a Harry Potter fan. I went with the Ravenclaw house whose colors are blue and bronze (yay for Haine and Ushio's hair |D)Extracting it took awhile, and some of the hair lines ended up funky when resized... All worth it in the end though. 8D
○ 02, fight I interpreted the theme as a fight between Haine and the twins?! I guess it's an emotional fight lol. Anyway, took a very, very long time to extract ;A; shed blood and tears for this one, only to use about 1/6 of the image I extracted. I WILL REUSE IT. I also was not happy with the first result I came up with this one, but thankfully I went back to it the next day and it came out desirable.
○ 03, blocking I had zero faith in myself that I could do this, and was freaking out a bit since at first it wasn't very nice... but I finally got the coloring to look right and went nuts after that |D I kinda abused the idea, lol.
○ 04, fade Might not be too obvious or conspicuous, but Haine and Takanari are both blurred a bit around the edges (I actually had to extract Haine to get her where she is). Not liking this icon too much.
○ 05, magic Used a bunch of floating dots light textures and a smoky texture to interpret it as magical, since ryfee was saying it was ok to interpret it that way.
○ 06, chess pieces I was stumped... but ended up with an icon like this (made a couple queen icons recently, so this one really doesn't come up to par with them...) Komaki is supposed to be a queen (lol she runs this relationship) and Kusame really wouldn't be a king, even if I tried.
○ 07, two fonts I used the song title "Sweet Disposition" by the Temper Trap (7/8 are interchangeable icons lol), the fonts Georgia/Pea Gretchie, and I thought this really represented Maika and Kazuhito's relationship; she's his sweet disposition. |D IT'S A BEAUTIFUL SONG, GO CHECK IT OUT.
○ 08, song title I originally heard the Glee version of "The Only Exception" then I heard the Sam Tsui and Kurt Schneider version then after completing this icon, I had finally listened to the original version by Paramore. ANYWAY, ONTO THE ICON, if ya follow the story, then you would know that Ushio is a bit standoffish from the rest of the world, but for some reason she lets Haine into her little world. Therefore, Haine is the only exception for Ushio. 8D took forever extracting these images as well, and the worst part is the result isn't too great...
○ 09, love tropes I really liked this theme! It was actually really fun and interesting to read through all the TV tropes, so this theme was quite enjoyable for me. 8Db Probably one of my favorite themes. I used the love trope, "destructive romance" because, well, their love is a bit whacked (until later at least).
○ 10, wallpaper texture This theme made exactly no sense to me. When I think of wallpaper, especially when read online, I usually think of the one that goes on my desktop, the one I see when I turn on my computer. So at first, I kept thinking "Ok... ryfee wants us to use a BIG TEXTURE... well that's just great." Until I realized that she meant like, wallpaper that goes on... walls in houses. Sorry, erinae, didn't extract this one. |D was a bit burned out of all the themes by the time I got to this one, and was like "lol gonna be lazy"

○ Inspiration HIT ME for this set, definitely
○ I LOVE LOVE HOPE, even though he gets all the hate in the fandom. I THINK HE'S THE MOST REALISTIC OF ALL THE CHARACTERS. Or maybe, more like it's easier to identify with him. |D I really wanted to claim him for this because of that lol, but when I took a look at the themes, I had realized that there aren't that many official images of him (like promo images/posters) so most of these are extracted screencaps from the game (thankfully I had screencapped the whole series lol but had to go through a million folders/images to find the good good ones that fit the themes). I ended up extracting most of the images (full size too, influenced by erinae lol) and used stock images as background from Getty Images |D fun fun.
○ 01, numbers The theme calls for text, is the impression I got form looking at previous rounds using this theme. I hate HATE this icon so much, it was the last of the themes that I did because I just didn't have any good ideas. I actually originally thought of doing an icon that had Hope with another character, about to go into battle, charging forward, with the text "all for one, and one for all" but I just couldn't find any good images to carry out this idea with (and I wouldn't know what to do about the background since it would be the characters... in front of a beast thing lol).
○ 02, hats I was dumbfouned when I saw this theme. Hope never wears a hat in the game, and none of the official images have him wearing a hat. I was gonna cheat a little bit and use an image of him wearing the cloak thing he wore during the purge but I thought it would be too plain and boring. I ended up getting a hat image from Getty Images and lol stuck it on him. I secretly think he would be a cowboy because of his bandanna lol. I like the result 8D but of course it went through trial and error especially with crops and making the hat look real.
○ 03, grayscale Oh man, I tried so so hard to find an image of Hope making an epic face, (which he seems to do left and right in the game, only character with real emotions and notable facial expressions lol) and I finally ended up with an image of him looking fierce. I wanted to choose an image that would seem good... grayscale since I don't do grayscale icons.
○ 04, hot I was originally planning on yet again using an image of Hope being fierce, but I felt the need to make it being literally hot by having him... lol being burned?! When I thought about this icon in my mind, it looked great but it didn't translate well when I went to photoshop.
○ 05, monster I was confused with what to do with this theme. I was gonna use an image of Hope with Alexander but Alexander isn't even a monster so... yeah I used another fierce image. I added blood splats to... show that he's a monster?! A monster that sheds blood?! lol
○ 06, mirror I love love this icon because I found images that would match so well with my idea, and it turned out pretty well! Nothing much to say besides that this took a long time and it was a lot of fun. 8D
○ 07, stock image I was ecstatic when I saw this theme because it's become my new found love in icons |D I was torn with what icon to select for this theme, since most of my icons this round were using stock images lol. I really like this one's coloring, though so it got the spot.
○ 08, contrast The contrast is the dark corner on the top left... and the rest is bright...?! lol went a bit loose for this theme. Loved how this one turned out. I had the idea that Hope would be looking at something beautiful or amazing, and I found an image of kites in a blue sky in my Getty Images folder, and thought it worked perfectly with this.
○ 09, restful Hope is looking restful... at beautiful sites? Lol I I don't think there are any images of him sleeping (unless he's like, knocked out lol but that doesn't seem restful does it?). I interpreted restful as peaceful.
○ 10, top I kept trying to do a top crop, but I gave up and ended up doing a bottom crop and flipped it |D. I really liked how this turned out, especially considering how low quality the image seemed every time I cropped it down. Really went out of the box for this one 8Db and I think it was a nice change of pace.
○ Set theme: typeface I really wasn't feeling this set theme because it requires the use of text, and not only that, but different typefaces (not fonts, but typefaces like serif, sans-serif, etc.) I used (in order) sans-serif, serif, blackletter, semi-serif, and script. I am loving what they ended up to be actually, besides 14 that looks like it jumped straight out of a Twilight poster. 12 is a quote from the scene; where Hope tells Lightning that Strategy Nora failed, and Light comforts him by saying she will protect him, and Hope replies with "If I am able to, I want to protect you, too." Cute scene C8 14 was a concept I had in mind since I got the themes, and it uses lyrics from the Danny Phantom theme song |D since I've been watching that this summer, reliving my childhood and these lyrics intrigued me every time ("a world unseen"). I am loving how it turned out, definitely my favorite from the bunch, and it is also the last one I made.
○ Artist Choice I went lazy with this, just went with random images with Hope being emotional, didn't try to match or anything (Why do people even make their AC set matching so much anyway? Never makes sense to me since they are supposed to be stand alone anyway? OH WELL) 16/17 only look similar because they're from the same scene, same lighting, and I made them around the same time (lol yes different PSDs). Favorite from the set would be 18.

○ Being emotional unstable seems to bring my icon creativity up
○ This set is definitely one that I'm more proud of, and I think it represents me well (considering how out of the box I went yet keeping it my style) and I seemed to have reverted back to my earlier roots of doing simple icons with just crop and coloring (which I love!)
○ I was a bit loose for the inspiration, as you can see but I really was inspired by all the words, images, and quotes. (original post for themes)
○ quote 1 is "What is to give light must endure burning," Victor Frankl. I thought of #4 working with that quote because Simon had to "endure burning" to give light, which the image portrays Simon growing up, enduring everything
○ quote 2 is "There is not enough darkness in all the world to put out the light of even one small candle," Robert Alden. I thought #10 went with this quote because a group image of the main three seemed to pinpoint it well; that the darkness wouldn't be able to overwhelm even the smallest light of them. (lol what am I talking about)
○ #1, #10, #11, #14, #17, and #19 are my favorites because I felt I worked the hardest with these and the results were more desirable than I expected.
○ #18 uses lyrics from "Young Love" - Celtic Thunder (Damian McGinty at age 14) Glad I had my Youtube favorites on playback 8D
○ #29 uses lyrics from "The Way You Are" - David Choi & Kina Grannis
○ Post is dedicated to bucky for getting me into the fandom in the first place.

Notes:
○ animan, it felt like it was an honor to enter this LIMS, and I was excited to enter in this round because the theme was to revive old trends, with a touch of the present. Moving on... lol. I always seem to do much better icons when I enter them into these kinds of icontests, which may be because of the pressure, lol. I like the coloring I did in #1, but then I tried to fit the theme which was to use the light blob, and to use a scratch texture. I haven't done these things in so long... I just kinda panicked and ended up with that, lol. I was pumped to make #2, because the third challenge was to use the bold, over-saturated selective coloring style; which I still use after all these years, with a touch of my own style. I really love how this one turned out; I was scared it might turn into a mess because I would be trying to hard. No crits for #1, crits for #2.
○ Collab with nna_chan was amazing! For #3, her manipulation of the background, and matching the color scheme was quite nice. For this icon, she did the typography, background, and crop; while I did the adjustment layers. #4 wasn't submitted because lol I realized like the moment I was entering it (which was the day before submissions were closed) that there isn't really an OTP in the icon... in the original image Kazehaya's in it, but in our crop we only have his hand in it lol.
○ WOW o0yukino0o's manga coloring never ceases to astound me. Her manga coloring was so beautiful, it was as if I felt like I was interfering with her original coloring of the image when I was doing the adjustment layers and textures.
○ #9 was a really fun icon to color, even though it was really out of my comfort zone, with the crop and the subjects being so small. vincibility redid the background, and added the frames in. I adjustment layered the hell out of it, added textures, and put the flowers in the frame. (btw this ended up with mod's choice, mod being aentee so I was fksdjfs so damn happy when I saw results.) I've never made icons so lol complicated before, that it was pretty fun and something I'd like to do again. 8) #10-15 were also really fun, with Vi manipulating the background, and doing a far crop ish. When I was doing this icon, I realized I didn't have my texture folder with me (it was on my other computer, I got a new one recently and haven't transferred all the files over yet), so I spent a lot of time on just doing coloring, then did a million variations because I felt really excited when I got to the texture folder lol, and you can see what happened. #12 was submitted. (alsooooo, to begin with, the GL icon was... basically complete when she sent it over to me, it was like I was interfering with what she had gave me...OTL)

01. I started out with this base here of Kobato from Kobato.

02. Make a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer at Soft Light 50% with these settings:
Master: 0 -100 0

03. Add this texture by _iconographer and set it to Overlay 100%.

04. Add this texture by _iconographer and set it to Soft Light 100%.

05. Make a new Color Fill adjustment layer #aeaeae set it to Multiply 100%.

06. Make a new Color Fill adjustment layer #cae9c4 set it to Soft Light 70%.

07. Make a new Color Fill adjustment layer #8196a7 set it to Overlay 60%.

08. Make a new Selective Color adjustment layer with these settings:
Colors:
-Reds: -38 +36 +83 +17
-Yellows: -56 -34 +34 +19
-Cyans: +100 -29 +74 +42
-Whites: -30 -41 -16 -32
-Neutrals: -24 -9 -16 +14

09. Duplicate the Selective Color layer from step 08, and set it to Lighten 100%.

10. Make a new Color Balance adjustment layer at Normal 60% with these settings:
Midtones: -13 +14 +11
Highlights: +1 +8 -14
Shadows: -13 -14 +10

11. Lastly, make a new Curves adjustment layer to make Kobato brighter. It should look something like this.

01. I started out with this base here of Kobato from Kobato.

02. Add this texture by _iconographer and set it to Color Dodge 45%.

03. Add this texture by _iconographer and set it to Overlay 40%.

04. Make a new Selective Color adjustment layer with these settings:
Method: Absolute
Colors:
-Reds: -100 +57 +50 +87
-Yellows: -70 -22 +59 +35
-Greens: +100 -56 +100 +47
-Magentas: -52 +100 +66 +48
-Whites: -31 -11 -19 +10
-Neutrals: +22 +19 +18 +8

05. Duplicate the Selective Color layer from step 04, and change Method: Relative. I've noticed duplicating a selective color layer does wonders to icons, lol.

06. Make a new Color Fill adjustment layer #b4d39c set it to Soft Light 40%.

07. Make a new Color Balance adjustment layer at Screen 20% with these settings:
Midtones: -22 -11 +8
Shadows: -34 -18 -43

08. Lastly, make a new Curves adjustment layer to make Kobato look darker. The layer should look something like this.

o1. I started out with this base here, of Amu from Shugo Chara.

o2. Add this texture by lifeisdolce and leave it at Normal 100%, when I used the Elliptical Marquee Tool, I changed it into this, .

o6. Make a new Colour Fill adjustment layer, #3a1000 set it to Soft Light 100%.

o7. Make a new Colour Fill adjustment layer, #7200b4 set it to Overlay 40%.

o8. Make a new Colour Fill adjustment layer, #e4f0fc set it to Soft Light 100%.

o9. Make a new Colour Fill adjustment layer, #a79c60 set it to Overlay 100%.

10. Make a new Colour Balance adjustment layer, with these settings:
Midtones: +31 -55 +8
Shadows: -31 -4 -71
Highlights: +22 +17 -5

11. Make a new Levels adjustment layer, with these settings:
RGB. Input Levels: 0 1.00 222

12. Make a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, with these settings:
Master: -2 +22 -16

13. Make a new Selective Colour adjustment layer, with these settings:
Reds: +46 +11 +39 0
Yellows: -61 +19 +40 +12
Magentas: -74 -71 -54 +17
Whites: -76 -39 -50 +58
Neutrals: -19 -22 +12 0

14. Make a new Selective Colour adjustment layer, with these settings:
Reds: +100 +23 -53 0

15. This is where it gets a little complicated. Remember the Levels layer made in Step 11? Take out the visibility on that layer. If you don't understand, I made a screencap to help. Then, you select your character with the Elliptical Marquee Tool, (none of the patterns) and then go to Edit > Copy Merged, then Edit > Paste. I didn't want Amu to be full black and white, so I zoomed in a lot, used the pen tool, and selected her hair pin and the mark on her cheek, cleared it, now it isn't fully black and white. xD

16. Let's go and do some easy stuff now, add this texture by lifeisdolce and set it to Screen 100%. I moved the texture up so it wouldn't be in Amu's face.

17. Add this texture by iiokua and set it to Overlay 100%. btw I blurred out the circle on the right in this texture.

18. Looking really dark now, right? Let's go back and take out the visibility of the "lifeisdolce" and "iiokua" texture layers, next go to Select > All, then go to Edit > Copy Merged. Move that layer up to the top, after the "iiokua" texture layer. Set it to Normal 46%.

19. Lulz I guess you could call this an Optional Step, depending on what your image looks like currently. I went back to the base layer, used the pen tool, selected Amu's eye, copied, pasted, moved the layer to the top after the "desat copy" layer. For me, this really isn't an optional step ... unless I don't want to see her eye.

20. Finallyyy, we have reached the last step! Add this texture by p_i_x_a_r and set it to Screen 100%. I moved the texture a little over to the left.

For those who are wondering about how the layers tab should be looking like in the end, I made a screencap and added the layers settings to it!

YOU GUYS BETTER SHOW ME RESULTS. I SPENT AWHILE TO TYPE THIS UP. D<

o2. Next make a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, with these settings:
Master: -10 +47 +10

o3. Make a new Colour Balance adjustment layer, with these settings:
Midtones: -63 -30 +40

o4. Make a new Selective Colour adjustment layer, with these settings:
Reds: -40 -83 +100 +48
Yellows: -51 0 0 +48
Cyans: +52 -52 +45 -16
Blues: -100 +45 -39 +39
Magentas: -91 -50 +36 -21
Whites: -74 +56 +28 +24
Neutrals: -20 +28 +32 -9

o5. Make a new Colour Fill adjustment layer, #080030 set it to Exclusion 62%.

o6. Make a new Colour Fill adjustment layer, #747e3b set it to Soft Light 100%.

o7. Make a new Colour Fill adjustment layer, #adb1e9 set it to Soft Light 100%.

o8. Add this texture by dusty_memories and set it to Screen 100%.

o9. Last step...?! Add this texture by dusty_memories and set it to Multiply 100%.

10. Optional step! Add some text! I used the font Violation, I used one colour from the image, and another colour to ... well be able to see the text. There are two different layers, one with the purple, the other with the blue, and I moved the blue layer (one on top of purple) over to the left a little, and that way you see both colours and are able to see the text. (well kinda ;;)
