Thank you for joining PAERI’26!

PAERI’26 took place from 18–20 March 2026 in Hamburg, hosted by European XFEL, and brought together a record 150 communicators, 140 of which onsite, from across a wide range of scientific fields and institutions. In fantastic spring weather, the participants came together to explore some of the most pressing questions shaping research communication and engagement today.

The programme featured keynote insights from Tony Lockett, Head of Unit for Communication at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, alongside panel discussions, lightning talks, and many valuable conversations during the breaks. A particular highlight of the first lunch break was the speed-dating session, which created a lively setting for new connections and exchanges. Two panel discussions focused on important topics in the field: the communication of Research Infrastructure upgrades, and Research Infrastructures and quality in science communication.

The social programme added to the special atmosphere of the conference. On the first evening, participants gathered at European XFEL’s Lighthouse for a reception featuring musical performances and slam poetry. The second evening brought everyone together aboard the Rickmer Rickmers, a famous sight in Hamburg harbour. On the third day, the conference continued at DESY with tours of the campus and the upcoming visitor centre DESYUM.

Thank you to everyone who helped make PAERI’26 such a successful and enjoyable event. We are already looking forward to the next PAERI in 2028 at MAX IV and ESS in Lund!
