We have been conducting Careers in Science Workshops since 2017, and Crafting Your Career (CYC) workshops since 2019.

We develop courses/training modules to enable the scientific community and/or students to gain the necessary skills for their chosen career paths.

This multi-faceted format includes videos, podcasts, presentations, reading material, worksheets, and more.

The CYC workshops are targeted at master's students, Ph.D. students, postdoctoral fellows, etc to provide the requisite knowledge, tools, and techniques to equip and empower them to navigate and craft their career paths.

Here we cover subjects such as -

(1) Career development/Career in science

(2) Essential skills and how to develop & nurture skills

(3) The application process for a job; the different steps involved & how to prepare

(4) Effective scientific networking

(5) Professionalism, work ethics, role models & mentors

The main aim of this project/workshops is to bring awareness amongst students about the various career paths available after earning a degree in science and to arm them with the tools to make the right choice while moving on to the next step in their career.

About

Outreach and science communication is a responsibility that scientists across career stages and disciplines have towards society. In the current times and moving forward, it will be very important to cultivate a deeper level of interaction between the scientific community and the broader public via strategies such as sharing scientifically reliable information, fostering a scientific temperament, and increasing the accessibility of the scientific community/​research. Despite the pertinence of this issue, such initiatives are few, in their infancy, or face a shortage of resources. IndiaBioscience strives to promote this practice, especially amongst talented scientists in the early stages of their careers via the IndiaBioscience Outreach Grants (IOG).

The first IndiaBioscience Grants was launched in July 2020 and we are in the 5th cycle this year.

First-Time Grants

This IOG scheme is for first-time applicants. IndiaBioscience (IBS) awards a maximum of INR 1 lakh for a duration of 1 year. A total of up to five grants are offered to a team lead by a Young Investigator (YI, within 8 years of starting as an independent investigator) in India.

Extension Grants

This IOG scheme is for IOG awardees from the previous cycle. IBS awards a up to two awards of maximum of INR 1.5 lakhs for 1 year. This funding is intended to enable successfully-executed projects to become sustainable in the long term i.e. set up permanent structures, seek additional funding, and build partnerships with other agencies.

1st IndiaBioscience Outreach Grant

IndiaBioscience launched the IndiaBioscience Outreach Grant (IOG) in 2020 to promote the practice of science outreach, especially amongst scientists. Learn more about the IOG and hear from our first cohort of awardees in this video.

3rd IndiaBioscience Outreach Grant

Applications for the 3rd IOG opened in September 2022, and selected projects were initiated by December 2022. Learn more about the IOG and hear from our 3rd cohort of awardees in this video.

This project of mapping the researchers in the life sciences in India, was inspired by and is an outcome of the 10th edition of YIM (2018) in Thiruvananthapuram. It was initiated to serve as a resource to:

1. Help locate and connect the community of life science researchers, including (but not limited to) the past attendees of the YIM series
2. Help map the pool of resources providing relevant information (location, affiliation, discipline, expertise, and links to lab websites)
3. Help foster collaborations and cross-disciplinary interactions within the community

The International Grants Awareness Program (iGAP) was envisioned to improve the quality and quantity of applications from India to international funding opportunities. It aims to do so by educating, equipping and inspiring the Indian life science community.
