Incoming audio/video transmissions will be received as holographic projections; outgoing communications will be sent as audio/video or voice-to-text transcriptions. Alternatively, if he can be persuaded to update his accessories, he may carry a slide phone like this with all the same capabilities (voice/text/holographic/video) as the ring.

Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:
Personification of Dream & Story~ As the lord and personification of all that is not reality, he has the ability to enter the minds of others via thought, to influence their dreaming, to feed on and to travel through the energy of dreams themselves. Just as there must be a balance between day and night, so he governs the dreams of humankind, both good and bad, sleeping and waking. His realm, known as the Dreaming, is a collection of beings who once lived, and stories that have been told--all of which have fascinated him in some way--along with creations of his own, meant to help maintain that balance. He is often associated with Morpheus and the Oneiroi of Greek mythology.

Gift of Dreams/Nightmares~His is the power to induce sleep, or to bring insomnia; to create dreams, and nightmares; and also to influence reality by his very existence--i.e., to inspire creativity, ambition, and aspiration.

Omnipresence~ Like his siblings, he is everywhere on Earth at any moment, but usually not in a form that is visible to humans. Because of the Pull, he will be unable to leave Siren’s Port, so the other parts of his realm will take care of his duties while he is "awake." He is more than likely to brood over the consequences of such limitations.

Omniscience~ While not nearly as powerful as his elder siblings Destiny or Death, Morpheus is still no one to scoff at, having access to the knowledge of the human subconscious through dreams and thought. For Siren’s Port, this is powered down considerably in that he won’t know the life story of everyone. Upon meeting, though, he will likely be able to divine a person's name and identity, and perhaps a the nature of their character/what kind of person they are.

Shapeshifting~ Like the other endless, he has the ability to change his appearance at will, though he often shapes his form with the expectation of the onlookers in mind--modifying his physical manifestation and his “wardrobe” in order to blend in. Here, he will still be able to shift his wardrobe, but not his actual, physical appearance.

Teleportation~ Dream can travel instantly anywhere in the mortal realm that people sleep and dream, and so long as he shows proper respect, he can easily enter and transit most magical realms too. In Siren's Port, he will only be able to teleport within the general area of the city & its outskirts, though he may be none too happy about that fact.

Immortality~ He is ageless and virtually immortal, because dream itself is ageless and immortal. His body, however, can be injured and even destroyed. If that happens, the personification and mantle of the dreaming will be handed to another, and the being known as Dream/Morpheus will cease to exist.

Sorcery~ Every Endless is able to perform magic, however, in the port, it will be powered down to the very basics. An example would be, making small things appear, like ingredients for dinner, or combining ingredients already present in order to create a finished product.

Canon Weaknesses: It is difficult, but he can be captured & contained by magical means. He can be weakened and essentially starved if he is cut off from the Dreaming for extended periods of time. He can be stripped of his tools and the symbols of his power, and they can be manipulated and used against him.

There is also an ancient set of rules and customs that all of the Endless must abide by, or forfeit the protection afforded to them as Endless. One, it is forbidden to spill of the blood of family. He cannot kill any of the other Endless (though he believes that for the protection of all, he may one day be forced to do so). Two, it is forbidden to fall in love with any mortal. If that happens, the mortal will die. No exceptions. Though, as Morpheus' past lovers have learned, there are fates worse than death.

Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them?
Weapons: They are not weapons per se, but he has objects which represent his power, i.e. a helmet made from the scull and backbone of a defeated enemy god; a ruby pendant which has since been destroyed and its essence reabsorbed into his being; and a pouch containing the Sand of Sleep, which never runs out.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Here.
Point in Canon: Following the events of The Dolls' House. At the early point in his canon from which I am pulling him, he has only recently returned after having been imprisoned away from The Dreaming for some 70 years, and has been working to restore order to the chaos resulting from his absence (i.e. hunting down rogue nightmares which have taken on lives of their own and invaded the mortal realm, etc.).
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: n/a

Character Personality:His sense of humor--or lack thereof--is very dry, he is occasionally insensitive, often self-obsessed, and slow to forgive. He has a history of tragic romances, having fallen for a mortal woman on more than one occasion, and he does not deal well with change. He hates to be alone, but allows himself very few real friends, perhaps as a defense mechanism--though he does care deeply for his brothers and sisters (with the exception of Desire, whom he sees as a careless meddler and a liability, and will not hesitate to punish if he catches in the act again).

He is also extremely aware of his responsibilities to those around him (mortal, endless, or otherwise), and to his territory, the realm of the Dreaming, even when those duties are unpleasant and inhuman. He has killed to protect the balance of dreams and reality, he has unmade his own constructs to prevent their running amuck and wreaking havoc in both realms. He has granted and revoked privileges, and even threatened war with his own siblings to protect humanity. He knows what it means to sacrifice the few for the sake of many--and has borne the weight of making such a call.

He is one of the few Endless who to populate his or her domain with sentient beings, surrounding himself with companions who can speak, think, and act of their own free will. He finds humankind both frustrating and intriguing, and his concern and compassion for the human race is tied up inextricably with and balanced by his sense of honor and duty both to them and to his own kind. He believes it is not the endless who control the mortal realm but mortals who control and/or influence the endless by their continued, if subconscious, believe in the existence of those things which the endless embody.

On the other hand, he is not unaware of his own imperfections, and has done things that he regrets--including banishing the spirit of a former lover to eternal torment in Hell because she had refused to abandon the mortal realm and join him in the dreaming for fear of the consequences. He can be beautiful and terrible at once; quick to anger, slow to forgive, and impossible to forget. But he has also spent many a century brooding over those mistakes, and how to correct them.

He has sometimes been referred to as "the scary one" among his siblings, and with good reason, for his actions are often cold, sometimes cruel, and he rarely ever wears his feelings on his sleeve. However, deep down in his secret heart, he looks up to and admires his eldest sister, Death, so much that he might very well given his life for her--or stepped into Burgess' summoning circle willingly if he had been given the choice--for would have meant that she would be free to carry on governing the circle of birth & death, and by extension, of life itself. He knows they are not supposed to play favorites, so he keeps quiet and tries to be fair, but he is still closer to her than to most of the others.

Not only that, but he would also lay down his life his entire realm, if someday he was called upon to do so, in order to atone for his and his siblings mistakes and ensure that reality and dreams would continue on as they were meant to be.
Conditional: Personality development in previous game: n/a
Character Plans: Dream dreams. He creates. He watches. He broods. And he tries to maintain order and balance as best he can. He will most likely be keeping a close eye out for anything that looks like the work of Desire's meddling, and making sure no one else harms any of his other family members; contemplating what it means to be "expecting" a son in the form of the human child, Daniel Hall; and doing his best to remain neutral.

Appearance/PB: Tall, thin, & extremely pale, with black hair and bright, glowing eyes; dresses entirely in black, sometimes with a flame motif. (PB: Atsushi Sakurai)

Writing Samples

First Person Sample [voice-to-text]

What is this devilry?
Have you mortals not learned the consequences of imprisoning myself or my siblings?
I suppose it comes as no surprise.
If there is anything to be learned from your history it is that you rarely ever do learn from your history.

But I suppose a man can dream.

((ooc note: in the comics, dream's "speech" is always portrayed as white text against a black background, in keeping with his signature black/white/red motif. i may follow the theme in 1st person NV posts just for fun, however, 3rd person logs/threads will be done in normal text.))

Third Person Sample

He was flying, silent as a shadow, and as swiftly as lighting up a room. Some people said that dreams of flying meant that you were really dreaming of sex, and he wondered what it meant when you dreamed of sex.

A young woman across town was dreaming of swords and sorcery. The man lying beside her with his arm curled tightly around her naked body dreamed of baseball bats and zombies. Neither of them noticed as his shadow passed overhead, but he did notice when the woman appeared in the man's dream and with her sword she smote the heads from the zombies that surrounded them. He felt the way their heart-rates increased as she turned to her lover in the dream and pulled him close, sealing his lips to hears. He drank of their kiss for a moment, and glided onward, to the building across the street, where a man had fallen asleep at his desk while writing, and now dreamed that he was typing frantically in order to make his deadline.

Words floated in the space around him, pouring from his fingertips to fill the emptiness, and yet, the more pages he filled, the more hollow he felt inside. The dream lord bowed low in his flight, sweeping the words away like so many grains of sand, and whispered something in the sleeping writer's ear. He felt the man stir with inspiration, and sped onward, slipping from dream to dream, pulled toward some unknown, unseen destination as if by the song of a Siren. Entrancing, irresistible...

And then he woke in a darkened apartment, the shrieking wail of another kind of siren grating at his ears, malevolent shadows licking at the edges of a single window--a deeper darkness against the black of the night. Always, he dreamed of freedom, and always, he woke in the same blackened prison. The darkness could not penetrate, but neither could he leave the city on pain of death. But one could always hope.
