This Application calculates the body mass index (BMI), based on the World Health Organization (WHO) standards, data required:
1.-HEIGHT (centimeters, inches or "feet-inches" format)
2.-WEIGHT or body mass (kilograms or pounds)
3.-AGE (for kids under 19, is given in YEARS: MONTHS format, people or individuals over 19 are considered ADULTS, in the case of women refers to non-pregnant and non-lactating women)
4.-Gender (only for children under 19 years) for adult, gender is indistinct.
App Features:
1.-Easy to use: at the bottom, three scroll bars used to enter data:
a) Height (yellow bar)
b) Weight or body mass (gray bar)
c) Age (blue bar)
When dragging the scroll bars, you will see at the top of the screen the values of HEIGHT (centimeters, inches and "feet and inches" format), WEIGHT (kilograms and pounds) and AGE ( "years: months" format for kids under 19 years old or "adult" for people over 19 years old )
For better accuracy on data, at the right side you will find some buttons with the symbol "+" when you press these buttons, data is more accurate than just dragging the data scroll bars.
For kids under 19 years old you must specify the gender, just press the button "girl" or "boy" to select the gender.
Once you've entered your data, in the center you will see the BMI value and the classification according to the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO)
BMI evaluation and the recommendations for you,
BMI categories for adults are:
1.- Very severely underweight ( IMC 2.- Severely underweight ( 15.00 - 15.99 )
3.- Moderate underweight ( 16.00 - 16.99 )
4.- Mild underweight ( 17.00 - 18.49 )
5.- Normal (healthy weight) ( 18.50 - 24.99 )
6.- Overweight ( 25.00 - 29.99 )
7.- Obese class I ( 30.00 - 34.99 )
8.- Obese class II ( 35.00 - 39.99 )
9.- Obese class III ( more than 40.00 )
IMC percentile categories for children under 19 years are:
Percentile less than 3: underweight
between 3 and 85: normal weight
between 85 and 97: overweight
greater then 97: obese
The meaning of each percentile is the percentage of boys and girls who are below according to your BMI.
Example 1: if your BMI is just above the 85th percentile,means that you are above 85 percent of children or girls of that age and that size.
Example 2: if your BMI is a little above or 3rd percentile means that you are above these three percent of the boys or girls of this age and size.
Note: BMI is an indicator of the relationship between height and weight of people and this app is a tool for calculating your BMI, does not replace your doctor. children and adults may have variations according to each person. do not forget to consult a health professional.
