I'm not even getting into the field of thorns that is the immigration issue...

But I heard a odd thing on NPR. One of those listener submissions, and how it played was as a big thank you for all the shitty jobs that illegal immigrants do for US citizens.

"Thank you for picking up the kids... Thank you for hauling the garbage... Thank you for re-installing windows XP on my notebook..."
Just two minutes of thank yous.

Does that make sense though? The rap plays like we should be thankful for illegals having bad jobs. Fine, thanks for mowing the lawn, but I pay taxes, I pay social security, I keep my genes to myself and I have a job that I hate. Where's my thanks? Don't I get like double-plus thanks even?

I was reading around and someone mentioned "...until we find a proven cure for pedophilia".

Remember that only decades ago, homosexuality was a "diesease needing a cure".

In some ways, (american) society is becoming more liberal. (everyone else is already liberal.) Gay marriages happen, pot is becoming less-illegal, democrats can stop congress, etc. Now I'm not supporting this either way so don't give me crap about it, but might there be a day when people look back and think "they used to think pedophilia was a diesease, lol". And if it does happen, what will be the tabboo then?

Read up on all the problems with all your favorite time travel movies. This stuff is really amazing. Read closely enough and you will learn the fragility of pulling of an N-jump... get the hang of something in a sawtooth snap... or just chill out in an eternal loop!

Probably the best description I've heard of Canon's adoption practice of new tech:
They are always the last to arrive at the dance, but notably well dressed.
That's one of the reasons I like them. Canon will keep busy grinding glass and making cameras while all the other companies fall over each other trying to make the next big thing. Once the dust has settled, Canon will pick from what standards survived, what features sold well, then make the move.

The relaxed yet surefooted approach occasionally puts them behind the times (notably with the XL2 and not having any 720p/1080i product for the last >year.) But in an industry where every product has a "with the times" status for mere months, and the fact that I'm a luddite at heart, this is permissable by me :}

And don't let that "HDV" logo on the EVF scare you; the onboard deck is HDV yes, but the camera outputs the full boar ~1.3Gbps of HD-SDI. Your XL lenses probably won't fit (not enough lines anyway) but your battery pack, radio mic, tripod mount and etc will, as long at it adheres with the old XL form factor. They've added even more pro functions to it over the XL series, and, it's black! :}

Finally saw this. It was pretty cool seeing another movie shot on Canon gear. I thought it looked good, although the imagery was far from orinal camera footage. They showed camera original stuff in the Making Of, the difference is night and day. No biggie, like I've said everything happens in post these days. Sadly though, even with a Mini35 clipped on there, the late 90's XL1s just didn't have the res to deliver certain shots. OTOH, there was a lot of stuff filmed that could only be done with the quick setup and operation of video (the opening scene with empty streets was stunning).

Oh yeah, as for the movie itself, well, it was easy to get into. The visuals are slick and even scary at times. I was worried for the characters a bit, everything was interesting until it comes to the point where the last foothold of society comes apart because of THE RAVAGING MALE LIBIDO omg! After that I found it really hard to take seriously. Sex is good and all, but don't you think the people strong enough to survive the collapse of the current millenia could have enough integrity to keep they're pants up?

Go for the zombies, but skip the orgy. The Making Of was pretty interesting but if you have any fear of bird flu or bioterrorism then steer clear.
