Keep Dreaming

Keep dreaming. A pastor reminded me of this last week and this post related to the same topic has been sitting in my draft folder for awhile. So here we go, I am finally refining it and hitting publish. This post was started out of a desire to encourage believers to keep dreaming both relating to dreams while sleeping and dreams as in the desires within your heart. However, today I am just discussing the latter.

Do you realize that when you seek Christ, he gives you the desires of your heart? Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Except if the journey to pursing your dream is anything like mine then the desire might not be fulfilled right away. That doesn’t mean you need to give up on your dream. Instead, when you have to wait on your dream to come to pass it just means that God has invited you into a deeper relationship with him. God never puts a desire in your heart to tease you, but he gives you dreams to fulfill them.

God absolutely loves it when you dream big because when your dream is fulfilled it’s like a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12 says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.” When you stop pursuing your dreams hope deferred happens which is why it is so important that you steward your dreams well and always put your hope in Christ.

What might this look like? Well first, resurrect any dreams that you have killed. Maybe it’s a dream of having a baby, getting married, writing a book, or opening your own business. I don’t know what it is, but if you have stuffed away something you are passionate about, then it’s time to bring it back. Make sure you are walking in community with others who can remind you of your dreams. Seek out friends who will encourage and pray for your dreams to be fulfilled and surround yourself with people who will believe in your dreams with you.

No dream is too far gone for God. If God has closed the door then yes, it’s time to move on. But if God has placed the dream in your heart and given you a passion for it then it’s time to keep dreaming. If you have given up because you haven’t seen your dream manifest, then it’s time to bring your dream back and trust Jesus knows what he is doing. Choose to have hope and keep on believing that at just the perfect time your dream will come to pass!
