sent out to the fields
to play until dark
ankles rubbed raw
by burnt stubble
running past a fox
choked in a wire
past the sewage works
spiralling sludge
past a bald man
in the hedge
of the Golf Club drive
ignoring the signs
sliding the weir
counting leeches
making a home
in the hollow tree
knowing this was where
Sarah’s father found
something rotting
something hung
