Chi Cheng still in a coma.

If you're a big fan of Deftones like I am, you know by now that bassist Chi Cheng has been in a coma since November of last year after a horrific car accident. He is being hospitalized in a Northern California hospital in the ICU, fighting off bodily infections. I was and still am terribly heartbroken with this news. They are not sure if he will ever come out of the coma unharmed with normal brain function. However, there has been news in the Deftones MySpace Blog that Chi has made small improvements in the past few months.

Chi Cheng has been playing bass for the Deftones since before I was born in 1988. When I first heard the Deftones, I was shocked and entranced by how they could organize and write their songs in such ways that sounded almost too beautiful. White Pony is by far my favorite Deftones album, followed by Adrenaline and Around the Fur. Not only is Chi a lyrical influence to the band, he is also an impact on the screaming parts of their songs as well. Here is an interview with Chi from back in 2007.

So, you might be wondering what you can do to help out Chi Cheng and his family. Turns out the Deftones along with Chi's family and fans have set up a donation website, which is entitled OneLoveForChi.com, and you may go there at any time to donate money that will help both him and his family with the growing medical expenses they are unfortunately enduring. I have made it a point to spread the word about this website and Chi's condition. If you are a fan, please help me and the band as well as Chi's family get the word out there and collect as many donations as possible. If you cannot donate, just spread the word!
