One Excavated from the Head Car - The Death Toll Rises to 72
In Hyoga prefecture's Amagasaki City on the Fukuchiyama Line on the 25th, a rapid service train (composed of seven cars) departing from Takaratsuka and heading toward Yashiromae station had a derailing accident and crashed into an apartment building next to the tracks. As the Amagasaki City fire department continued their rescue operation on the first and second cars of that train through the night, a 19 year old male was discovered in the wreckage of the first car at just after seven o'clock on the 27th and was taken to the hospital. The male was visibly weak but fully conscious and able to reply accurately to questioning. According to the fire department, the number of dead has risen from the accident at 7:40am was 72 (39 men, 33 women). They say that there are still a number of passengers trapped inside the first and second cars.

.... I was reading other places about a 19 year old man who kept calling his family and saying that he was in pain and not going to make it. I can't even imagine how terrible it must be for all of the people involved in the situation. I've been to Amagasaki City and I hope that no one I knew was on those trains.
I don't know, maybe it's terrible of me to keep on checking for how many have been killed, but I keep on checking for new information on the hour.
I guess they are looking into claims that the train was going too fast. The driver was only 23 years old and had one warning already for over-running a station last year. Then, right before the accident, he did it again. I feel bad for him, actually... he hasn't been found yet so he's almost certainly dead, too.
.... Just refreshed again. Death toll is up to 73.
