Medical imaging technologies are transformative for science and healthcare.

Medical imaging technologies are transformative for science and healthcare.

Building the next generation of medical imaging tools will require interdisciplinary expertise, spanning engineering, AI, medicine and biology. The MIT Medical Imaging Initiative brings together a community of researchers across these domains to build and accelerate the launch of the next generation of medical imaging technologies. We also serve as a linking point with hospitals and industry to enable transfer of new technologies to real-world healthcare applications.

Funding Programs

Next-generation medical imaging fellowship

In 2025 we awarded four inaugural next-generation medical imaging fellowships to MIT Ph.D. students leading collaborative, interdisciplinary research on biomedical imaging.

Our 2026 call for applications is currently open! These fellowships will be awarded to MIT PhD students or postdocs who are working collaboratively with two PIs, to strengthen collaborative efforts in medical imaging. Visit the “Call for Applications” button to learn more.
