Miserable. Sure it's a sinus infection; hoping dr will just call in a prescription. Oksana is sick again too. Taking her to the dr at 2:15.

So tired of feeling like crap.

Posted via LiveJournal app for iPhone.

It's Friday the 13th... well, it will be in 20 minutes... and I want to devote today's blog entry to a friend of mine. My friend Red Clark is an amazing person. He's funny, he's creative, he's talented, and he's one of the nicest, most genuine people I've ever met. He's also a huge horror fan and aspiring filmmaker. He's really active in the Chicago horror scene and he's always coming up with fantastic ideas and projects.

If you follow me on Facebook or follow my horror blog, you may recall me crowing enthusiastically about a cool and creepy little video we did that won third place in a Midnight Syndicate video contest. Red was pretty much the mastermind behind that, and he did all the filming and editing. The end result was incredible. AND HE THREW IT TOGETHER IN LESS THAN 48 HOURS. You can now find it on the DVD for the film The Dead Matter.

I'm telling you about Red because he has a new project in the works. It's perfectly suited to his unique talents and I really think his passion for old school horror and his keen eye will make this into something great, but he needs just a little help to get it off the ground. Stephen King (yeah, that's right) has given Red permission to make a non-commercial short film adaptation of his story Gray Matter, from the collection Night Shift. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and would be a great stepping stone for Red's career! I truly believe that the horror world needs more filmmakers like Red, with original ideas and a driving passion for the genre. Red is funding this project through Kickstarter. He's 8 days out and $1,100 shy of his goal right now. If you can find it within you to celebrate a little spookiness this Friday the 13th and lend a hand... whether it's through a donation OR just by spreading the word... it would be much appreciated.

http://kck.st/tHUprE

<lj-embed id="94" />

Thanks, everyone!

It's that time of year again! Time to start the Holiday Grand Plan! It's a several months long deep-cleaning and planning list that is determined to save your sanity during the holiday season. I've been following it (somewhat sporadically) the past few years and even the little bits I've managed to do have really helped. I highly recommend it! Check it out here: holidayplanning

I feel like utter crap today. I can't take most of my medications from now until surgery, including any painkillers or vitamins, and I am feeling the full brunt of aches and nausea today. My blood sugar is haywire too. I'm just a mess, and my husband won't be home at all tonight, and my house is a mess and my kids are a mess and laundry needs doing and animals need feeding and kids need baths and food and I can't even bend over to wipe myself without simultaneously feeling like I'm about to hurl AND triggering a gallbladder attack.

It would be funny if it didn't hurt so much.

Thank god my parents live nearby. I'm sending the kids to my mom's for a few hours.

Now I just need someone to come and feed my animals and wipe my ass for me.

Any volunteers? :P

Tried a new recipe tonight!

I posted the recipes and full review of it on my blog here: http://pidgeinthekitch.blogspot.com/2010/10/review-spicy-shrimp-and-bok-choy-stir.html

Is it a keeper?
Flavor-wise, it needs some modifications to be a whole-family pleaser. Cost-wise, it's a little high but not TOO bad; this would rank it as an 'occasional' dish and not a staple. Health-wise, it seems to be fairly decent. Overall, three spoons out of five; would make again, but with some modifications.

cross posted to bitchnkitchn

scrappin' like crazy

My dear livejournal friends, I thought you might like to know that I finally started up that personal scrapbooking business I have talked about off and on. Yes, I finally jumped in and did it. Here's hoping I can make a go of it. I love what I'm doing, and I know the products are beautiful, and I truly believe in the value of preserving memories; I just need to get the word out.

If you're interested in following my progress and my business, there are a number of ways you can do so!

I have a Scrapbook Chicago facebook fan page here. If you are on facebook, please 'like' my business! You don't have to be in, or near, Chicago to do so. I ship all over. I will also run periodic contests and giveaways.

My etsy store, amilliondreams, is here. I will post various offerings regularly. I am always available for custom work, so if you are interested in something that isn't listed, please contact me with your thoughts and we will put a fantastic project together.

Finally, I started a Scrapbook Chicago blog to talk more about the products I am offering and the ways that you can create projects like these yourselves, if you are so inclined.

Thanks for looking, everyone! I appreciate it.

I posted an update on the dining room, with the most complete 'finished' pictures to date, on my Million Dream Mom blog here: http://milliondreammom.blogspot.com/2010/08/i-am-recovering-hoarder.html

Still working on the kitchen. Didn't post about that yet. A lot of the WORK in there is in sorting through things in cabinets and drawers, so there's not a lot of visual accomplishment yet. I clean the counters off, empty a cabinet on them, clean out the cabinet, sort through the stuff, put some in boxes to sell, put the rest away. The counters cycle through dirty-clean-cluttered-clean-cluttered and back again over and over. So I'll probably show that to everyone when it's done.

Name Help!

I'm looking for name / website name advice. I'm still technically a Heritage Makers consultant, but I'm REALLY not into the whole 'doing parties' thing, and I'm not even really into putting my energy into having digicrops and stuff at my house right now. It's just not where my business interests currently lie. HOWEVER, I still love scrapbooking and digital scrapbooking and I would love to do it for people and I like doing it myself.

I am thinking, as a way of trying to earn extra money, of offering personal scrapbooking services (both digital and traditional) to people. I need to start with a website. I need a name / website address. i will keep my "scrap your books" site linked to heritage makers, and will still happily help individuals learn how to use the Heritage Makers system if they're interested (and probably even let my customers know that they can learn to do this themselves if they are interested). So I need a new site to show my products and let people know how to order from me.

Some thoughts, with currently available domains:

Lifetime Memories By Kristi (www.lifetimememoriesbykristi.com)

Kristi The Memory Saver (www.kristithememorysaver.com)

The Memory Savior (www.thememorysavior.com)

I kind of like the last one except "savior" always makes me think of Jesus and I don't want people to think I'm paralleling myself to Jesus. But I really do believe in helping people save their memories and photos and I AM passionate about it, which is why that name appeals to me.

Do you like any of these? Hate them? Have other suggestions? HELP!

Thanks guys, love you.

cleaning: staying on task!

So ellisbell has a new house and is thinking about cleaning and schedules and staying on task and all that. She posted a poll with some questions about frequency of certain household tasks and wondered how the rest of us manage it. I filled out the poll with some measure of amusement; I don't think it's any secret that I am not very accomplished in the area of house cleaning. However, I have good intentions, and I think I set up a decent system, if only I could stick to it. After I commented, she indicated interest in seeing my 'house control journal', as it were, and since it's lengthy I figured I'd share it here. How do all of YOU keep up with your homes? What works for you and what doesn't? Do you see ways I could take what I've got here, a method that only partially works for me, and improve it?

Here was my comment on her poll:

"this poll is hilarious because I am the worst cleaner on the planet. For the tasks that I "accomplish" daily and weekly, I assumed you actually meant "which tasks do you PLAN to accomplish daily and/or weekly", rather than 'which tasks do you actually get DONE on a regular basis", because I fail most every week. And day, for that matter. I have never figured out how to keep up with all the tasks I feel NEED to be done in even my small house, without sacrificing family time and work time. It's a neverending battle for me.

That said, I DO have a schedule that I even follow sometimes, with tasks for every day, and when I'm following it I try to get some things done every day so that the house is always in some semblance of order. When I have my clutter problem under control, it's easier to follow. When I don't have the clutter under control, it's hard to CLEAN because picking up the clutter always gets in the way of cleaning time.

How I made it: i went through every room in my house and listed all the chores for each room I thought needed to be done, ever. Then I categorized them as daily, weekly, or monthly chores. (I included the outside, with things like cutting the grass and cleaning the gutters too.) I made sheets up for every day of the week, and listed all the daily and weekly chores on them. I tried to space the weekly chores all out throughout the week and also group them together so, for instance, all the vacuuming gets done in one day, and all the dusting on another. Then I added a page with monthly chores. When the first of the month hits, I try to either schedule them on the calendar or just get to them when I have 'extra' time during the week.

I have never done the monthly chores in the two years that this 'house control journal' has existed. But I know what they are should I ever get around to them.

As I said, when my house is decluttered, I'm pretty good about getting to the journal and at least working on the daily / weekly chores each day. I have never gotten through a whole house's worth of stuff though, and it's frustrating. Even when I'm at the top of my game, it seems like there are always more chores than I can keep up with. I don't know if that's MY failing or if I was overambitious with my lists (I don't THINK I was, but who knows), but it seems like I will be spending two hours a day cleaning every day in order to get it all done. And I only have a 2 bedroom ranch house! Add in cooking and cleaning up after meals and taking care of the kids and homework and baths and showers, and I have NO time left over for writing / working, let alone for any hobbies. It's immensely frustrating, and I often wish I could afford a maid.

I AM challenged in the cleaning department, it's true, but I also feel really frustrated at the amount of work taking care of a house seems to be. ANd it's not just owning a house, it's apartments, everything; cleaning in general just seems to take up so much time. :/

I am willing to share my task lists with you if you want to know more after all my bitching about cleaning there, lol.

My house is filthy right now. FILLLLTHY."

In addition to the daily tasks per room, I have a small morning routine that I do before I start any of this. It consists of:
start one load of laundry (and reboot dryer from yesterday)
empty dishwasher
feed the animals and clean up pet waste

and then I have an after dinner routine as well, that consists of:
switch laundry, put clean load from yesterday away
stack dishwasher and run it

Kids' Room:
daily:
laundry in hamper
take garbage out
pick up toys / misc
make beds
Sunday:
clean glass
Monday:
sweep
Tuesday:
dust
Wednesday:
vacuum
Thursday:
change sheets
Friday:
sweep and mop
Saturday:
no extra chores

Master Bedroom
daily:
laundry in hamper
take garbage out
pick up misc
make beds
Sunday:
clean glass
Monday:
sweep<br
Let's Get Dirty

Hey guess what? I had a sexy dream last night! It was kind of awesome and I wanted to write about it but wasn't sure anyone here wanted to read my dirty nighttime exploits, so I put it in Dirty Old Moms instead. It's here if you want to read it.

Also, because I'm a slacker moderator, I just approved two posts from two of our other contributors that have been sitting there for a while. Sorry guys! Don't miss The Muse's Preview or Love Sick's Things I Can't Wrap My Head Around, which I encouraged her to post when I read it in a different forum because I thought it was a really good piece of writing on her struggle to define her sexuality.

Check them out, folks!

"Really and truly live more simply, at least for now; go through things and SELL THEM OFF, make it hurt, make a real concerted effort to pay off debt and get in a better position. don't incur debt like this again. make lists of things you'd like to purchase WHEN YOU ARE OUT OF DEBT AND HAVE THE MONEY. Prioritize it. You can always get the 'stuff' later. And 'stuff' is just for fun, it's not that important anyway." ...

http://milliondreammom.blogspot.com/2010/04/living-simply.html

this is good stuff.

I want to remember it.

from:
http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/comments/b87a0/i_read_a_lot_of_threads_about_being_lonely_sad_or/

"I am not witty or interesting; I wont pretend to have anything profound to say. I am 26, female, divorced and spent most of my life feeling empty and hopeless. This may not help anyone, but these realizations helped me find my happiness. The points are in bold.
They didn't lie to you in elementary school, being different is awesome.
In high school and my early twenties I was teased for wearing video game related t-shirts. Now the the same girls who teased me often complain to me over facebook about being suck in generic relationships and "wish they had found something to love the way I love gaming". Also, I recently made a bet that my $15 TMNT purse would get more compliments at a bar than a $900 coach purse. I won.
Some things really do take time.
At one point in my life I was naive enough to think fate decided who we were supposed to marry. I became infatuated with a boyfriend and when he left I thought my life was over. At that time if you had tried to tell me anything different I would have banned you from my life. He was my one true love (so I thought).... Overtime, I came to realize he was a selfish cheater that used me. It wasn't easy and up until a short period of time ago he was my "drunk dial". It took me meeting another of his exes and listening to her identical story for me to finally get over it.
You have to love yourself before anyone can love you (in a romantic way). I married a great guy right out of high school. He was smart, attractive and patient. We bought a house and planned our future. No matter how hard he tried to make me happy I found a way to make us miserable. Looking back I now know I didn't like me and just couldn't understand what a guy like him would see in me, so I questioned his every action. I am still happy we divorced, but I now realize it was 100% my fault.
Finding something you are passionate about in life should be one of your first priorities.
In an episode of Lost Desmond finds out that Penny is his constant, after watching this episode I wanted to find my "constant". I looked through old journals, photos and asked friends. The only consistency in my life was gaming. It made sense. Its the only thing that has stuck with me throughout life. I make game art, keep up on game culture and play games constantly. But I never thought of gaming as a passion. So I for a month I set gaming goals. I found myself happier than ever before. I have now given in and am constantly happy.
If someone that loves you asks you to get help for anything- do it.
I had cancer when I was sixteen, over the next ten years I had numerous people tell me something was wrong. I ignored them. I tried to kill myself and finally sought help. I went to a psychiatrist , she diagnosed me with PTSD. I got treatment and most of my symptoms went away. Close friends kept saying something was wrong. More ignoring. I went to the doctor because of a cold and found out they missed part of the original tumor, It was affecting me in a way that simulated mental illness. Because of my procrastination the tumor had grown into a place that could have killed me. I got lucky. I am cancer free and mentally healthy. Never chance stuff like this. You will never be objective to yourself, listen to people that love you.
Don't help others more than they are willing to help themselves.
My little sister is a meth addict. It breaks me to write this but she is a lost cause. I gave her money, she bought drugs. I let her borrow my car, she stole it. I got her out of bad situations, she got back into them. I let her live with me, she stole from me. The list goes on. If she ever makes a legitimate attempt to change her life I will be there. But until she whole-heartily wants a change I wont even give her my address.
Having a few close friends is better than a huge group of associates.
I somehow became the cool nerd girl when I moved to my current city. I went to a different party every night of the week. It's so pathetic to admit this, but in a month I went from having around 33 pics of me on facebook to over 300. I felt cool. Then I had an issue I needed to talk to someone about. All of my cool friends were as helpful as paper weights in a hurricane. I went back to my small group of "unpopular" friends. They helped me through my issue and loved me just the same.
People who set realistic goals and work towards them succeed.
Have you noticed just how disgustingly poor my understanding of grammar and punctuation is? I never advanced past 8th grade English. Here is something I wrote in g-chat just over a year ago: "I like sam beam better then te decemeris.... i wish thy would tour their going to be in st louis soon. go you wnna go?" That line was sent to a guy I wanted to date. I was trying. I was sober. I am still awful but at least people can understand me. Its very embarrassing but I have to work hard to sound this stupid.
You can always make friends.
I had to start from scratch after my divorce at 24. I was the cause for the breakup so our mutual friends hated me. I tried to stay in the rural town I grew up in but things did not work out, it was just too small. I moved to a larger city and found nerd friendly events. After a short period of time I had made a small but great group of friends. I want to point out that I did have to move to fit in, I grew up in a redneck area. Sometimes you do have to make drastic changes to better your own life.
Keep sight of your future but don't forget your past.
As a child my own household was abusive so I got away whenever I could. I am a very nerdie atheist now but as a child my regular escapes included services at black churches every Sunday. To make it clear- I DO NOT BELIEVE IN ANY KIND OF GOD. But at the certain kind of church I attended we heard more about common sense morality than theology anyway. Regardless of what anyone thinks of religion this period in my life shaped me for the better.
Follow your heart. The end.
Please do forgive me for the haphazard writing, I found early morning inspiration and had to get to work. I just wanted to be honest with my most embarrassing aspects. I am lame, ordinary, unattractive and slightly insane yet really happy. I am tired of hiding honest discourse behind throw away accounts."

The Tracks Of My Fears

I said in my last post I would talk about what scares me, and since it's the middle of the day and I'm not home alone or anything I feel perfectly safe in doing so. ;)

As I mentioned before, it seems to take a lot to scare a seasoned horror veteran. Even the GOOD movies don't always get us. But everyone's got a trigger, something that freaks them out, scares the crap out of them. I'm not necessarily talking about phobias, though I have those too. Mine? Spiders and corpses. Yeah, Ol' Spooks is afraid of corpses. Funny, isn't it? The phobias have differing degrees. I would rank my spider phobia as SEVERE. I think about them almost constantly, live with a low-grade level of anxiety about encountering them, and panic uncontrollably when I DO encounter them. I can't watch movies with spiders - I did see Arachnophobia when I was 12 or 13, at a friend's sleepover; this was before my phobia was really bad, and honestly that movie may have helped kick it up a notch. I made it through that one viewing, and every moment of that film is permanently burned into my brain, coming out to terrify me at completely inopportune moments. Like, say, when I take a shower. Or pour myself a bowl of cereal. As much as I know I'd probably love the flick Eight Legged Freaks, where the subject matter anything but arachnids, there is NO WAY I can watch it. A preview of it caught me by surprise at some other movie, and I screamed - loudly - and almost fled the theater. Yeah. It's ugly. Even talking about this is making my skin crawl. I've considered getting therapy, but the thought of getting over my phobia terrifies me too...

http://sepulchrestudios.blogspot.com/2010/02/tracks-of-my-fears.html

I'm dealing with the issues inherent in being an overachieving dreamer with a variety of interests right now.

I'm struggling, specifically, with the idea of whether or not I should focus all my energy into writing, or if I should keep up with both writing and Heritage Makers (or, as I mentioned the other day, whether or not I should replace Heritage Makers with Pure Romance)...

http://milliondreammom.blogspot.com/2010/02/casa-de-spooks.html

Working Hard For The Money

It is true that I didn't hit my self-imposed cleaning goals for January. However, I came very close. I built in cleaning AND decluttering time into my February work schedule, and moved ahead into following this new schedule when the month started. So far, a week into February, it seems to be working pretty well. There have been some challenges, and there will be some tweaking as time goes on (indeed, there already has been some tweaking)... but for the most part I think that what I came up with is pretty sound. I will have to see, as the month goes on, how much I have gotten accomplished and how well I think the schedule is really working, and decide if major changes need to be made at that point...

http://milliondreammom.blogspot.com/2010/02/working-hard-for-money.html
