I know how people usually say that the next year will always be better than the last, but I am just thankful for surviving another year. December was really great to me and there are too many memories (both good and bad) that I can't even type all out.

I'm starting 2010 with a new perspective, a lighter outlook on life, and my heart on my sleeve. I wish you and yours the best.

Women in Trouble

Just thought I'd post this before I left for my night class. It's called Women in Trouble and it stars Marley Shelton, Simon Baker, Emmauelle Chiriqui, and of course Joseph Gordon-Levitt! There's many more I didn't name, but it's seems like it'd be a really good film. I think the release date is in November, and I'm a little excited.

Yesterday was Linda (splinda) & Sophia's (wallpaperdoll) birthday, and on the 12th was Nadja's (belle_tristik), but with my lack of internet connection I wasn't able to properly greet them on their respective dates.

Happy date of birth you crazy girl! I hope you had a great one. You are such a cutie pie and one of the first friends I really got to know here on LJ. I always trust your book recommendations and I always enjoy reading your posts. Love you!

I don't remember how we started talking, but I learned that we pretty much liked the same male celebs at the very start. From Justin Nozuka to JGL, I really don't mind sharing with you ;) I think it's pretty cool how you've passed through the Home Depot Center and I've driven right through San Bernardino County a few times. Micro-update; Books & photos

So around the end of June I drove down with Michelle and Flore to San Diego to meet Melissa Marr.

The event was a small one, but it was a much more intimate one because we were all able to talk more freely with her and spend a good amount of time just listening to her. She's really just an awesome person, and like I've said before I strongly recommend her books.

I just wanted to let you know what she wrote for each book because if you've read any of them, you'd understand what each message meant;

I watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince this morning with my niece Jasmin. It was amazing. The CGIs were awesome, and I was tearing at the end. I'm happy that the film lived up to the hype and I can't wait for next year. Oh, Ron was ♥ as always and even though Cormac is an ass, he's still a cutie.

Btw, I got my 500dos soundtrack today. Super happy!

Micro-update; Film & Literature

Since it's the summertime, I've been catching up on my readings and films. I just thought that I'd share with my lovely flist some mini book/film reviews and whatnot;

Film

The Hangover
I watched this film with Jourdan and Lani last week. Basically it's about a bachelor party gone wrong in Las Vegas. Throw in a stripper, baby, police car, tiger, and Mike Tyson into the mix and you've got The Hangover. I recommend this to those who are like comedy in the raw, meaning comedy that comes at a price. There were some outrageous scenes, but all in all it was a good movie. Rated R though :P

The Proposal
Yesterday I watched this with Faye and Michelle. I really enjoyed this movie since it stars Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. Very charming, and it kind of reminded me of an older movie that Sandra Bullock did that was a little similar to it, While You Were Sleeping.

Literature

The Mortal Instruments Trilogy by Cassandra Clare
I am in the process of finishing this series (finally!). I have read City of Bones and City of Ashes, and am now on the last one, City of Glass. I recommend this series to those who are interested in fantasy. These books come complete with demons, humans, faeries, vampires, werewolves, and everything in between. Though the books a little lengthy, they are very addicting and the last 80 or so pages are usually the most crucial and most intense.

The Wake Trilogy by Lisa McMann
This series centers around a girl name Janie who is able to be sucked into other people's dreams. I think that's all I'm going to say about these books since I don't want to give anything away. There are only two out of the three books out in stores; Wake & Fake. It's a very quick read!

Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead
I know that you've all heard me mention these books before, but now that I've caught up with the series, I strongly recommend them. At the moment, there are so many vampire books out there and it seems to have been over killed, but this series offers a different kind of heroine or should I say heroines. It centers around two best friends, who are both vampires. One is of royal blood, and the other is her guardian. Again, read them!

The Pact: A Love Story by Jodi Picoult
This was the first ever Picoult novel I've read. It's about Emily and Chris who've known each other since they were babies, and decide on a suicide pact. When only one of them survives, it leaves behind a mess of emotions and two heartbroken families who once leaned on each other for support. It's a very emotional book, and it took me a while to finish it. The ending left me with a small hollow feeling inside.

Wicked Lovely Series by Melissa Marr
Melissa Marr is pretty much one of my favorite authors of all time. I recommend any book by her because her writing is amazing. The WL series is about faeries, and up until I started reading these books (more than a year ago) I always had the stereotypical picture of Tinkerbell in my head. The world that Marr creates in her books is not entirely different from the one we know IRL, there's just faeries added into the mix. If you've never heard of them, buy them and read. I don't think you'll be disappointed. ♥

So as much as I'd like to have had this post be posted closer to midnight tonight, I knew that it wouldn't be possible since I suck at being "on-time" Pshh, anyway;;

We're all so "grown-up" now. I remember sitting behind you in Life Skills class (was it 3rd period? I really don't remember) and feeling kind of intimidated by you because you seemed so smart. I do remember you lending me my first ever manga to read and my first encounter with Meteor Garden. I never did get to properly thank you for enabling me to have seizures every time I see Vic Zhou on the TV screen.

Hmm, but seriously though. While you're reading this, along with everyone else that's on my mutual flist here on LJ, I'd like to thank you for letting me have the pleasure of knowing you this long. I hope that later down the line we'll be able to still laugh at ourselves, just like we do all the time. Remember though, if and when we have kids.. we're forcing them to be best friends or arranding their marriages. One way or another, we're going to be married, lmao.

I'm feeling 80% better than I did last week. I still have the occasional coughing, but I think that all the hours I've spent sleeping have finally started to restore my health. Every day has pretty much exhausted me, both due to school and the meds I've been taking. On a much more exciting note, I went to my 2nd book signing with Lani. It was for Richelle Mead, the author of the Vampire Academy Series.

It was nice of her to actually write more than her signature in the books.

She looked super tired, but still had a smile on her face.

I've only read the first book but it's actually interesting. These books are based on the Russian myth of the vampire, I think. I'm still working on City of Bones, but I'm also reading another book called Wake, by Lisa McMann. This one is really good because it's about a girl who's able to be sucked into other people's dreams.

I've got five more weeks of Spring Quarter left before I can officially say it's summer time. Right now I am so over school, and want everything to be done with. This week I only have a calc. midterm which shouldn't be too bad.

I forgot to mention that I got a 97/100 on my Music midterm. ♥

So I pretty much spent yesterday with my family. My mom cooked a lot of food and my cousins came over. They brought cake! && not just any cake; chocolate dobash. *squee*

I started singing "Happy Valentine's day to you" bc I felt weird not singing before eating some cake.

I swear that I only had a slice and a half. LMAO

I just woke up around an hour ago, and thought that it would be fitting to post a poem I wrote in high school about love. Some of you have already read it on other sites, but this poem is by far one of my all-time favorites ♥

"The Botanist"
January 22, 2007
Recited like spoken word

Love is a seed only waiting to be planted.
Into the ground you wait for something enchanted.

Hidden deep beneath the soil and covered with darkness.
Sprouting roots from tears shed and flooding the ground with such fondness.

Tears from the eyes whether happy, sad, or anger.
Unborn leaves waiting to form the movements of a dancer.

In need of sunlight’s soft kiss, warmth, and tender care;
But too much of it, will be too much for it to bear.

What happens when this plant has grown?
Grown to its full size; beautiful and perfect, yet all alone?

Bearing fruits by the lot, ready to give and share.
Only to find out that this one seed has no pair.

Alone in the world, this plant; once kind and honest is now bitter and mean.
Just because it did not receive, now it hates all that is seen and unseen.

Uprooted from the ground with such anger and force.
And leaving one empty hole with indifference, no remorse.

This plant now dying, and struggling to live.
No way to replant, no way to forgive.

In the end, you are left with a shriveled up core,

Horror Remakes

As always, it's hard to keep up with a journal.. especially when school is my number one priority. Anyway, there's been some talk at school about a new movie called The Uninvited that I keep hearing about. I've seen splinda mention it once before. I wiki'ed it and found out that its a remake of a Korean Horror film entitled A Tale of Two Sisters. I saw this movie in my high school film class and seriously loved it. I do want to watch the American version, for comparison.. but I'm not sure. The US tends to draw remakes from other countries, especially Asia. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing, it's just that the perspective changes.. always. I could probably draw off the top of my head a long list of American movies remade from other countries i.e. The Ring, The Eye, The Grudge, The Lake House etc.. But I think I'll give this one a try. I really do love the original, but am interested to see the story told through an American perspective. Let's hope the director doesn't let me down ♥

What I really want...

Another week, another weekend. I live for Friday-Sunday. Sad, I know. School seems to get harder as each week passes. Blech. All work and no play, makes me sad and tired.

Anyway in a bio lecture a couple of weeks ago, my professor showed us some pictures of something called a "square watermelon." Well, here it is.

Interesting no? Currently I think they can only be bought in Japan. These are perfectly normal watermelons with no genetic enhancements. Basically the farmers just grew the watermelons in square boxes, and of course the fruits would take the shape of the box. In result, you get the square watermelon. I think my professor said that they sell for about 70-80 U.S. dollars. That's seriously expensive, but at the same time very cool. (Haha).

This would seriously be an awesome birthday gift. Hahaha.
