A total of 88 current and former law deans signed a letter showing support for the "Principles for the Independence of the Legal Profession."
Paul Paton, the former dean of the law school at Chapman University in Orange, California, has accused his ex-employer in a new lawsuit of allegedly firing him due to his sexual orientation and same-sex marriage.
The 53-year-old UCLA Law graduate was a deputy district attorney when he was appointed to the Los Angeles Superior Court bench in 2012, becoming the first Muslim judge in California history.
“The challenge for law schools is to teach students how to effectively use AI, but to prevent it from being used to cheat on exams or papers,” said Dean Erwin Chemerinsky, adding that the school is looking to “do both” by incorporating it into the legal writing classes and offering courses about AI and the law.
This is the first time the State Bar of California has approved a new legal specialization in more than 20 years, making California only the second state, joining North Carolina, to have a certificate in privacy law.
