Wow, where has the time gone? There have been a bunch of great challenges over the past few months, but the combination of lack of time and lack of my muse has really thrown me for a loop. It feels like I made these particular icons forever ago, and I've been meaning to post them but I keep forgetting. These include submissions for pokicons, theiconthrone, tvlims and a few other places. Oh, and one The 100 straggler (and an alt) that was actually from 2014. Don't even ask.

Clearly Jessica Jones has been very inspiring for me. I'm not normally one to icon Marvel/DC/superhero fandoms, but this show has been such a game-changer.

Here's my entry for round two at 20muses, where we basically got our inspirations from playing a "board game" of sorts using random dice rolls. It's such a fun and unique challenge, and I knew I had to take part no matter what. But stupid me didn't set aside time to make icons until... this Tuesday, actually. This is the result of three days of furious iconning. I had to half-ass a bunch of icons, but I also have some that I really ended up liking. So, eh, mixed bag.

I usually get really inspired by songs (which seems to be a minority opinion for this round) and less so by color palettes, so I was a little bummed that I got a bunch of the latter. But I guess that's the luck of the draw?

Jessica Jones is pretty much my solo iconning muse these days. It's just so good, guys. I mean, it features a strong, snarky, flawed woman and a strong female relationship that is deep and complicated and doesn't revolve around men. That in itself is a miracle. The story's really dark and engaging, and the twists and turns can be unpredictable and often times shocking. I've always loved Krysten Ritter and this was the perfect role for her.

Mr. Robot is another great show. I've never watched Fight Club before, but I've heard that the two have a few similarities. The show makes you question if what you're seeing is real, and it's one of those quietly intense shows that really sucks you in.

Yikes, this entry is full of very few 2015 icons and long overdue. Free time and inspiration are two things currently evading me, but in the meantime I've still been milling around, appreciating all the gorgeous icons that continue to be made. It's been a crazy year and I haven't been on LJ nearly as much as I used to, but I miss making icons! I'm hoping this year I can finally get back into it. How can I not with great new (or relatively new) shows like Jessica Jones and Sense8, which I haven't iconned at all, not to mention all my old favorites?

Anywho, onward with my pitifully small icon post.

P.S. Why is LJ making my apostrophes quotes in the cut text? I don't like it. Not one bit.

Finally, an entry full of new icons! This is for Seeing Double at inspired20in20, a type of challenge I've always wanted to try out. I have less alts than usual, probably because iconning the same cap twice gave my indecisive tendencies a chance to shine. I've been falling hard for pastel coloring these days, so there's a lot more of that going on in this entry.

I can't stress enough how much I love this little show. It's my favorite new thing on TV right now. If you're not watching it already, give it a try! The ensemble is great (especially as led by Gina Rodriguez, who is killing it). The writing is hilarious and heartwarming (the narrator gives me so many Pushing Daisies feels, but he's actually even better). I go from laughing to crying to laughing about 10 times every episode. The story lines are perfectly over-the-top since it's based on a telenovela, but there's a very human touch to all of it. And the characters are much more than what you see on paper. The villain's never 100% evil, the good guy doesn't always make the right decisions, etc.

I tried to spread a little love to most of the characters in this set, but... needs more Rogelio and Petra! I'll do my best to correct that when I make more icons of this wonderful show.

I didn't want to start 2015 with a post full of 2014 icons, yet here we are. Headdesk. The icons in this mini-post are from the7days, pixelheroes, wonderous_stuff's Gift of Giving and iconsomething's Giftmas.

I'm feeling pretty 'meh' about this post because I feel like I rushed most of them to meet deadlines at various icon comms. That being said, I do like the ones I made for the gifting activities. I guess I don't want to let my giftees down, but it's okay when I'm iconning on my own? I haven't been iconning as much and it feels like my creative juices have just been going down the drain.

My hope (not resolution because making it official tends to backfire and I fail hard) is to return to iconning and doing the things I love most with my icons. So... *crosses fingers*

Another much-needed icon dump, full of icons made for the7days, iconbattling, s1icontest and probably one or two more I'm forgetting at the moment.

Last but certainly not least, I participated in icontalking's epic Lost battle, which was in celebration of the show's 10 year anniversary. Several icon makers got together and reached an overall consensus of our favorite 20 characters, then made an icon for each of them. Lost was the show that got me into fandom. It sucked me in from the beginning and I was an eager captive until the very end and beyond. It's carved out its own spot in my heart (and is still my number one show to this day), so I knew I had to take part in this battle. Check out the first and second parts for a great collection of Lost icons.

My submission for Round 30: Adventures in Wonderland over at 20inspirations. I missed the comm's Down the Rabbit Hole theme, so when this came along I was so happy! Freeing yourself up to play and go crazy with compositional elements you never would've dared to otherwise is a pretty great feeling.

I pushed myself with my first few icons, but they still felt a little too familiar to me. So I tried out two styles I really admired but hadn't really explored: the painty style and the grungy yet classy vintage style. There are also a few styles thrown in there that I don't even know how to describe. :P As a result, this set is a mix of light and sweet, quirky and carnival-like, and dark, gritty and strange. What better show to use than Pushing Daisies, which fits these three styles to a T?

Working on this batch really made me miss the show that much more. The story and style were amazing enough, but the writing was a special kind of gem. The dialogue was incredibly fun, at times philosophical and deep, other times funny and whimsical, yet always witty. No one actually speaks the way these characters do, but that's part of what kept the show in its own happy little bubble. That being said, amazingly enough I barely used text in this batch. I really tried to focus on my texture use and compositions. These icons probably won't be for everyone, but I kinda like this crazy mishmash that I ended up with.

Also, what are the odds that this post has the same number of icons as my last one (and another 20in20 at that)?

My first non-sitcom 20in20 submission! Granted, I've only done two other ones. This was for Round 34 at inspired20in20. The theme focused on four major elements of iconning: cropping, coloring, composition and text (the icons are arranged in that order). It brought me back to theiconquest, so I decided to do an even split; five for each technique, though I ended up incorporating at least two elements for most of these.

My inspiration tank has been running low as of late, but fueled by my sudden desire to churn out some Game of Thrones icons, I made a really last minute decision to enter. Had to rush some icons to finish this on time, but I'm actually pretty proud of how they turned out as a whole. I experimented with a few new things and stuck with my old bag of tricks for others, so I'm eager to hear the feedback on these.

There's a wide range of 2012 and 2013 icons here (some I love, some I hate), and you can hover over each icon to see when it was made. Finally, a new post... though one filled with old icons. My muse abandoned me for the past several months, but I'm starting to get a little inspired again, so I want to clear out some of the icons sitting in my computer for a fresh start. Included in this post are my most recently made icons (two months ago) from an incomplete Breaking Bad battle with ponytrix. Each icon had one general theme and one technical theme, so you can hover over the main icons in 4-15 if you're curious to see which themes were used.

Warning: icon overload. I'd accumulated so many icons in my to-post folder, but I wanted to wait until I'd finally finished the request icons (yes, the ones from December... why do I fail so much). I'm sorry it took me so long to finish and post these! To try and make up for it I gave each requester icons from three caps instead of the intended two. (I say that instead of "three icons" because, as usual, I went a little crazy with variations.)

This is a mixed bag of icons I love, think are decent and really hate. Most were submitted for various icon challenge comms, battles and multi-maker comms, and some of them are pretty old. I also made some icons for fandoms I don't follow, which was fun. Orphan Black, for example, had such pretty and inspiring caps that I couldn't help myself. I've made a mental note to check it out when I have more time!

I love text! A shame it doesn't always love me. This entry's for the text round at 20inspirations (my first entry there, exclamation points). As usual, I tried to aim for some cohesive style and ended up failing completely. So instead what you get is random colors, fonts, and gif usage because animated text icons are just funnier than still ones. It's also the closest I'll ever get to creating an animation (because legit gifs and I do not mix a.k.a. I'm too lazy to learn how to make them), so of course I'm going to abuse what little knowledge of this tool I have.

I started and completed Parks and Recreation a month or two ago after hearing so much about how great it was. Everyone was right. It is funny and heartwarming and creative and more. The wonderful thing about great sitcoms is I don't need to sit around and brainstorm new lines of text or song lyrics to use, because each episode is already chock-full of quote gold. Despite the mad rush I did with the last half of those icons (Note to self: This is what you get when you keep procrastinating. Why don't you ever learn?!) this was a lot of fun to work on. And yes, I did end up with as many alternates as original icons. I don't even know.

Side note: For 18... um. Haha. Ha. Somewhere along the way I ran out of ideas, and then I found this cap and decided to paint over Leslie. Who knows why. But the text came about because it kind of looks like a courtroom sketch and that reminded me of Leslie's trial regarding her relationship with Ben.

P.S. Those request icons will be posted in my next entry, I promise! I have a few more left to do but I spent up all my Photoshopping energy working on these, and I want to gather up inspiration to make decent icons instead of half-assing them.

I know, I know, I just posted recently, but I'm posting again with my icons for inspired20in20! This post = the biggest proof that I have no distinct style whatsoever, but I guess I'm... kind of okay with that? Anyway, the theme was "nostalgia," so I picked a show that gives me all the feelings: Friends.

I remember religiously watching this show in the late '90s, and even though I was just an eight-year-old who didn't understand a lot of the pop culture and sexual (Friends is dirty) references, it was always the one show that could make me feel better. My worries were ridiculous little things at the time, but throughout middle school, high school, college, and now, having just graduated and officially being a part of the "real world," I still find myself watching as many late-night Friends reruns as I can catch. And even though I've probably watched each episode at least six times, I still laugh at the same jokes each time, and find a new appreciation for jokes I didn't get as a child, or ones I just didn't find funny for whatever reason. Despite all the shows that have come and gone, this has been the one constant for me. It's not a cartoon or children's show, but it still reminds me of my childhood and all the things I used to do and people I knew.

I had so many ideas with where I wanted to go with this one. I wanted to make it as evenly spread as possible, with the hilarious, dramatic, sappy and gut-wrenching moments mixed in. At one point I even wanted to make them all flashback icons to up the nostalgia factor. Unfortunately I ended up running out of time to make it absolutely perfect, and you can kind of see which icons I began to rush with. But after lots of random texture and text use, I did come up with a bunch that I was proud of, especially those that look like a cross between a grungy comic strip and a photo album. :D There's one icon for each of the six (that is, of course, Ross, Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, Monica and Joey), then a bunch of random moments, and finally, two group icons: one from the season one finale and one from season 10's series finale. I'm not ashamed to admit that I nearly cried making the last icon. And yes, I used those lyrics and I don't care if that's corny or cliche. I HAD TO OKAY.

For the sake of organization, variations are at the bottom of the post this time.

WHAT? NO SERIOUSLY WHAT?

A bit of history: I started iconning way back in 2004 to 2005. After I opened idyllicism I posted a few batches, and I wasn't known in the icon community at all but that was fine (I didn't even know there was a community). But I lost my graphics program, and with it, my inspiration, so I stopped making graphics for a while. Then at the end of 2010, I started playing in land comms and got back into that whole world that I'd pretty much given up on. When I decided to go ahead and "reopen" idyllicism this summer I had a little less than 50 watchers, and now, about half a year later, there are so many new people who are watching my community.

For a long time I doubted doing this, even as a hobby, and wondered if I was even decent at it or if I was just kidding myself. So knowing that there are people who like my icons and actually see something in me, enough to want to watch me grow as a maker... it means more to me than you guys will ever know. ♥

ANYWAY ANYWAY. You guys don't care about this part, this is all just a bunch of rambling and sappy stuff. Ahem ahem.

THIS IS AN INTEREST/REQUEST POST.

It's better if you stick to my fandoms since knowledge of the fandom usually means I'll make a better/more contextual icon. That being said, I'll try my hand at iconning anything (my animated icons aren't quite up-to-par with my live action ones, but I always like a good challenge).
Caps make it easier for me to know what you want, but if you're too lazy to go cap-hunting ~~trust me I get that~~, just toss me a few interests! Specifics would be great though (ex: not just "Nikita" but "Nikita/Michael or Alex from Nikita"), so I don't end up giving you an icon of someone you don't care about. Unless you genuinely love everyone. In that case, sure, leave it general!
No need to save spots. I'm going to do my best to get to everyone's interests/caps. All I ask is that you comment by the end of this month.
I should end up making at least two icons per person. I tend to procrastinate or end up forgetting sometimes, but I'm making this one of my top priorities and hopefully I'll be able to get started right after this week is over.

A bunch of icons have been sitting in my folder for a while, so I'll hopefully clear out those and the many one-offs in my next post before I start with a semi-blank slate again. I have so many one-off icons in my folder just waiting to be posted, ugh. At the moment I'm trying to slowly add to them 'til I have at least eight for each fandom, but I'm slowly losing patience and reaching that MUST CLEAR OUT ALL ICONS phase, so we'll see how that goes.

Yet another post filled with theiconquest icons (I don't think that'll be changing any time soon), mostly from battles. Man I miss Veronica Mars so much. Such a great show with a dynamic female lead. Luckily I see a few more of those shows coming out (pimping Nikita and Revenge, cough cough)!

I'm tired of looking at the old half-finished theiconquest stuff sitting and relaxing in my computer. Please come back to me, icon muse? Pretty please?

More theiconquest icons! The Suits ones are namely the other half of the battle I had with nyaza (the first part being the Nikita icons from the previous post). Also a bunch of color palette and fairy tale side quest icons thrown in there.

A bunch of icons made for various communities (namely onceuponaland, the7days and battles and sidequests at theiconquest). I can't remember the last time I made icons just to make them, but I don't necessarily mind because I'm usually slow as a snail in Photoshop, so these comms are really pushing me to speed up my process.

Finally, a recent icons post! I'm excited about finally getting around to these. This is a battles galore post, since I've been taking part in so many of them lately. Aside from a few stragglers, the Once Upon a Time icons were from an anonymous icon battle at icon_talk (my first battle!), and the New Girl icons are from a battle I did with airymaze over at theiconquest.

I didn't separate the variations because that'd be a huge category on its own, and also for numbering/organizational purposes. Hopefully that doesn't bother anyone because, for the most part, I'll be keeping it that way for future icon posts.

More 2011 icons. I was originally going to take my sweet time posting all of these, since I thought I'd be taking my sweet time making new icons. But nope, I've been cranking them out lately, mostly because of theiconquest and my gradual immersion into the icon community. The next one or two posts are going to be major icon dumps because I have around 1-7 icons for most of the fandoms/people.

Part one of backtracking to 2010 and 2011. All the Glee icons were made for gleeverse. Some of the simpler ones, around 36 to 54, were made for a speed icon team challenge involving character tagging, so I didn't do much to them since I focused on speed rather than quality. Surprisingly, I liked how some of the coloring came out, so I'm posting them.

But I decided to test myself by editing a few of those icons (and, of course, included variations). Added some textures, more colors, a bit more complexity, etc. Everyone has their own preferences, so I'd love to know which ones you prefer!
