Though it’s commonly thought that David Hume refuted Reid’s design arguments, Reid actually produced these lectures after Hume’s death, tracing his design argument back to Plato and Cicero, and did not find Hume’s key anti-design arguments at all persuasive, much less daunting or difficult to rebut. Barham also provides some interesting historical bits about how these lectures came to be written down, and some of the advantages this new resource on Thomas Reid offers over earlier Reid scholarship.

On this episode of ID the Future, Jay Richards speaks with James Barham, who’s just edited a new edition of Scottish Enlightenment philosopher Thomas Reid (1710-1796), Lectures on Natural Theology.
[2365,269,3332,3333,410,3334,3335,2675,1841,1225,3336,1356,3337,1382,3338,3339,2003
7227

post-38640","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-__edited","tag-charles-darwin","tag-cicero","tag-common-sense-philosophy","tag-darwinism","tag-david-hume","tag-francis-hutcheson","tag-natural-theology","tag-plato","tag-problem-of-evil","tag-scottish-enlightenment","tag-self-organization","tag-self-organization-principle","tag-skepticism","tag-theodicy","tag-thomas-reid","tag-william-paley","series-intelligent-design-the-future

Editor
https://idthefuture.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2020/09/different-species-of-birds-in-the-wild-stockpack-adobe-stock.jpg
https://op3.dev/e/idthefuture.com/podcast-player/38640/1361.mp3

New Book on Thomas Reid’s Common Sense Design Philosophy

/* */
/*!
