green & gold & grunge-y icon tutorial!

i've never done one so i thought i'd see what you guys think.

if you want to make

i started off with this cap by missmanics



i cropped & resized to 100x100.



i decided its too dark but doing just brightness/contrast didn't seem to look right so i duplicated the base messed with the brightness & contrast & set the blend mode to soft light.

so far it looks like this.


next, i create a new layer & fill it with #21186F & set it to the good 'ole exclusion blend mode.



next, i duplicate the base layer again & set it above all the other layers. i desaturate the layer & set it to soft light. so far it looks kind of meh so i sharpen that layer twice.

& it looks like so.



then, i add this gradient. (don't know who made it, i got it from another tutorial) set it to soft light.



& it looks like this.



i then add some texture with this base by icons_with_love set it to soft light.



now it looks like this.



its obviously not supposed to be a happy icon so i thought it could stand to be a little darker. so i created a new layer, filled it with pure black & set it to overlay at 30% opacity.

i added a border brush by teh_indy



& added the text which says "guilty" in Minion size 11 bold. made the text color white & set it to overlay.

& voila! your monster icon. :D
