First you open an image in PSP9. Don't crop and resize, just yet. We're going to do that at the very end.
This is the image I'm going to start out with.
Choose Adjust>One Step Photo Fix. That should improve the contrast, a little bit. Choose Adjust>Hue and Saturation>Colorize. Set the hue to 18 and the saturation around 90-95. For this icon, I chose 91.
It looks a little weird now, but it'll look better at the end.
Choose Adjust>Photo Fix>Digital Camera Noise Removal. Set the correction blend to 80 and the Sharpening to 25%. Then choose Adjust>Color Balance>Channel Mixer. Check the box marked Monochrome and adjust the sliders. Red to 140, Green to 10, Blue to 50, and the Constant to -55.
Choose Adjust>Hue and Saturation>Colorize. Set the Hue to 18 and the Saturation to 91.
Now, you crop and resize it to 100 by 100 pixels.
All you need to do now is add the text. But I think it, also, looks good without the text. But, for this icon I just typed Not So Little in the font Scriptina.
And finally, that's how I made this icon. I hope this helped.
That's another icon I made with this tutorial. It's quite simple-looking, but I wanted to know if this worked with other photos, and it did.
