Making PSP8 Gradients

Hey. I'm having trouble finding anything on how to make gradients, with a blank slate, on PSP8. Is there a way I can create a new gradient without having to use one that was already made? Also, I don't exactly know how the little slidy things work. If anyone could direct me to a tutorial or explain this for me, that would be wonderful. Thankss.
