I've received such wonderful responses to my previous tutorials, so I thought I'd bring you a third!
We'll be going from

Very simple, but selective coloring, curves, and channel mixer are used.
*rubs hands together* Ready guys?
Okay, so start with your icon base
I duplicated the base and set it to Scren at 100%. Yields me this:
Time for coloring!
Step 1
New Color Fill layer, color #cbf2ff, set it to Color Burn at 21%. Got this:
Step 2
New Channel Mixer layer
Red Channel- Reds=+80, Greens=-10, Blues=-10
Green Channel- Reds=-30, Greens=+70, Blues=+80
Blue Channel- Reds=-50, Greens=+50, Blues=100
Step 3
New Color Fill layer, color #b5b37b, set it to Soft Light at 100%
Step 4
New Curves layer
1st Point Red- Input=109, Output=109, 2nd Point Red- Input=157, Output=172
1st Point Green- Input=124, Output=114
1st Point Blue- Input=90, Output=111
Step 5
Color Fill layer, color # 798ab6, set to Multiply at 59%
Step 6
Selective Color Layer
Reds- R=-72, M=+18, Y=+72, B=+17
Yellows- R=-48, M=-54, Y=+44, B=+21
Cyans- R=+60, M=+14, Y=-36
Magentsas- R=+52, M=+39, Y=-49
Whites- C=+27
Neutrals- C=+31, M=+8, Y=+15, B=-2
