:D Simple Tut
A really simple tutorial~not sure if it translatable...it was done in Photoshop CS.
Sorry,no psd ;A;
-->
Involves:
-Very minor(?) channel mixer
-Selective coloring
-Color layer
-About 7 steps total
01. As usual, start with your image and crop it. This is the original image I worked with:

~♥
02.Crop it to your liking, but make sure your crop tool settings are at 100 by 100 ^^-it looks better if the person is not exactly in the middle of the icon. Just a little tip I learned from someone else.

03. Now that my image is cropped,I went to image>adjustments>brightness/contrast(alternatively,you can do this by going to layer>adjustment layer>brightness/contrast,which is much more effective because it doesn't change your background layer.. I set the contrast to about 12-15 and the lightness usually the same. Play around till you get something similar to this:

04.This step isn't necessary if you don't wish to to it,but now I went to layer>new adjustment layer>channel mixer to make him a tiny bit pink, like this:

My settings were as follows:
Red:110%
Green:0%
Blue:-6%
05. After that,we make a selective color layer by going to layer>new adjustment layer>selective color and play with the neutral, whites, blacks, reds, and yellows levels.(it might take a while till you find something you like, sorry ^^; but it does give a good effect.)
My settings were like this 8D
Reds:
-62
+21
+14
-9
Yellows:
-23
-19
-19
+46
Whites:
-30
+19
+23
-11
Neutrals:
+5
0
-10
+14
Blacks:
-11
+2
-10
+8
And ended up with this:

06. Now we make a new, normal layer, and fill it with a dark red, like #430000. Set this layer to exclusion at 30%.
You'll get something like this:

07. Now for our last touch :D
get this little texture thinger by
phaantasia here:

Go to select>all, then edit>copy. Go back to your icon and click on edit>paste. Now your icon should be covered by the texture. To make the white go away, set the layer with the texture to "multiply" at 66%.
08.
And ta-da,there you have it :D!♥
